I bought the PetSafe Stubborn In-Ground Dog Fence for my 90-pound Labrador, Timber, who lives life like she’s auditioning for the role of “Bull in a China Shop: The Musical.” When they say "stubborn," what they really mean is “will ignore you with the dedication of a cat.” So, naturally, I needed this fence. Installation was a breeze if by “breeze” you mean “a weekend of digging trenches like I’m preparing for medieval warfare.” After sweating through what felt like an archeological dig (still no dinosaur bones, by the way), I got the thing set up. Timber, being Timber, didn’t notice anything unusual at first. She sniffed around, probably pondering the meaning of life or why tennis balls aren’t naturally occurring, and then casually strolled across the invisible line like she owned the place. That’s when the magic happened. The fence kicked in, and Timber stopped mid-stride like she’d just hit the pause button on reality. Her expression said, “Wait… have I entered a parallel dimension?” She backed up slowly, tail tucked, eyes wide, giving me the look that screamed, “Human, what witchcraft is this?!” Now, whenever she approaches the fence, she does this bizarre crab-walk, as if she's dodging invisible ninjas. Honestly, it’s like watching a Labrador in a bad sci-fi movie trying to navigate a laser-filled hallway. I half expect her to start rolling on the ground or backflipping to avoid the “lasers.” Our yard is now Timber's own personal Twilight Zone, where the squirrels on the other side are taunting her like, “Come at me, bro!” But Timber won’t cross that line. No, she just sits there, staring at them like she’s plotting her revenge, probably thinking, “Next time, I’ll bring the wire cutters.” In conclusion, if you want your dog to think they’re living in a sci-fi movie where the rules of physics don’t apply, this is the product for you. 10/10, would dig another trench to watch Timber question reality again. ... show more

Obviously there is some labor involved in installing this. Luckily I have a tractor that I installed it with. I have it on the lowest setting, and my dog has not left the yard once since installed 2 months ago! I highly recommend upgrading to the heavy wire.

As far as the fence goes we live in a rocky area and this gauge wire has done perfect. We have not had any shorts or problems with the set. The only downfall is the collars are very cheap made and not very great quality. Also, you must monitor the prongs because they come loose very quickly.

Update ... After about 5 months the unit just sounds the alarm that is not a closed loop I'm going to have to relay all the wire if I want to use it. But how long would that last? Very easy to install, set up and training had been easier than I thought. They only drawback is the crappy collar. It loosens to the point it won't work. So I bought a replacement collar from their competitor. ... show more
