I've had the in-ground invisible fence from Petsafe for years with good experience, but it seems to regularly have problems and of course the dog only gets a correction as they pass over the wire. With the wireless fence, the dog continues to get corrections until they move back inside the fence. My dogs learned it instantly! I built a box to hold it outside so I could get the range I wanted (to let them go on the dock and swim in the lake) but found that it needed to further toward the from. So, I purchased a transmitter only, which looked completely different than the first one. The first one was the one for stubborn dogs and second was the regular one. This is our second system. our first one fell off the shelf and broke. We had that one 3 years. We did have one issue with the first one that the alarm started going off. The company replaced it immediately. This device has kept out 11 pound maltipoo out of the road along with our other two larger dogs. I got the transmitter itself because ours apparently quit working and our dogs were having some fun outings…haha! After trouble shooting with Petsafe customer service, they recommended we buy a new transmitter. I unboxed it, plugged it in and it immediately connected to our collars all by itself. No extra set up was needed. All I had to do was adjust the distance they can go- we use the max settings. I highly recommend if you need a new one. The one through petsafe itself was a little cheaper, but Amazon gave me 0% apr financing for a few months, which helped greatly! ... show more

We've used PetSafe...great product, needed a replacement. The seller sent it, its used, no original packaging, no directions included, just the base and cord in a brown cardboard box. Buyer beware! Will not use this vendor/seller again!! Buyer beware!! Do Better!

The Pet Safe PIF00-13210 is a life saver. I had a problem with my Lab and Beagle jumping the fence to interact with my neighbor's female Pit Bull. After getting the Pet Safe, my dogs quickly learned to stay in the yard. The rechargeable collars are capable of going weeks without a recharge, if the dog does not challenge the perimeter often. The only drawback with the device is the radio waves appear to bounce off of a large metal shed I have in the backyard and will shock the dogs if they go near it. I have not found a solution for that. One other thing, do not drop the device. It is made from thin plastic and will fracture, especially around the vent holes at top. I bought the PIF00 primary kit and the extra transmitter for my Shepard. I bought the extra transmitter due to the large yard. The items (other than the test light) themselves appeared to be quality construction. When I started putting out the flags, using the test light was hit or miss. I'd plant a flag then move back and start heading outward again 10 to the side. In some places the circumference was ok. On others, it wasn't equidistant from the main unit (I started with the single main unit). So, when the circle was done, I had a semi circle of flags with some at a different radius than others. While that would have been ok - the dog would just have a non perfect circle... However, when I went back to check again, the test light lit up at different radii than the original layout. Basically, the dog might get zapped at a location today where he was fine yesterday. Not something I'm willing to risk. The test light has 2 thin wire contacts that started to bend and in my opinion would eventually break. I had to wiggle the test light on the collar's contacts to make sure they touched. Your mileage may vary if you buy and deploy this system. The return process was smoother than I expected. So hopefully if you try this product (great system and I may have received a bad test light) and it doesn't work, it's not $600 down the drain. ... show more

I've used these units with over 8 dogs, all Rottweilers and pitbulls. They learn the boundaries quickly and never challenge it, yet are very happy outside and show no fear. I use 2 units, covering over an acre of our total lot, which is 13 acres. When I want to take the dogs walking outside the boundary area, I take their collars off and coax a little, then they come running happily after me. They really do understand that they can trust me to pass through the boundary area without a zap. Prior to discovering this, I had a conventional fenced yard that was over 1 acre, and the dogs would dig out under the fence! I mean cmon, how much room do you need to roam?? My experience however, is that Rottweilers and pitbulls like to stay near home, as opposed to bird dogs I've had, like german wirehaired pointers and golden retrievers, who start following their noses and can really wander far far away. So, I would be curious to know if wandering type dog breeds challenge the boundaries on this type of invisible fencing. ... show more
