Works great on cats, too! There was a tiny bit more training in involved for our cat but not significantly more than for the dog. Our cat was already used to a leash so that may make a difference. We've had this system for years now and it still works perfectly! Both our cat and dog know where the line is. In one of the photos they are both waiting for me near the boundry to come back from beyond the line. With this system they can run around freely within the boundries and I don't have to worry about them. We still bring them in overnight though. I can't sleep if they're outside overnight. They are limited to their boundary but predators that hunt at night are not. ... show more

This was easy to install to replace our collar that fell apart. It stepped in with no issues. Battery life is less than expected, but it warns us as it is going out and I like that feature.

I have bought several of these over the last 4 years. They work well to keep the dogs in the yard, and in my case keep my Malinois from ripping the fence apart to bring our Shih Tzu back into the yard. I have found that the prongs to work themselves loose over time and a good practice is to tighten them either before or after charging. Battery life is good, get several days out of one charge. However the overall life of the battery is not great. I usually have to replace the whole collar at the 1 year mark. I had one that only made it 6 months but was given a replacement. As an owner of 5+ years of their old system and have been extremely happy with it these collars are a great improvement over the old plastic ones. Although i had to buy a complete new system I didn't mind as i expected the rechargable battery to be near the end of its life to hold a charge for the the 5+ years of flawless performance. If the collar part of this ever gets worn from use it can be replaced with a store bought collar put on the receiver. The connection part of the collar is similiuar to most other collars with a plastic push to snap closed. An added feature is when i want to check how close the receiver activates to the boundary wire it is easily visible with the rapid blinking green light as i approach it. My two cocker spaniels are so used to where their boundary is they seldom have to wear the collars but once every couple of months. Thank you petsafe for an outstanding product and one of the best customer service i have used. ... show more

This is a option compared to the battery collar. I had been using the battery version for training my new dog. I had it from my previous dog and wanted to make sure my English Setter would would respond to the electric fence. I purchased this rechargeable version because the batteries were a hassle to deal with. Also because the battery version was bigger and bulkier for my dog. The difference is the battery version is more powerful. A level five static correction on the rechargeable version is equal to a three-level correction on the battery version. So if your dog responds well to the level 3 on the battery version the rechargeable version should work just fine. My dog is also more comfortable with the lighter version. The only other difference is the rechargeable version does not vibrate but that had no effect on my dog's response missing the vibration. You can see by the picture of the size difference and there's a significant weight difference. Overall I am satisfied with this purchase. ... show more

I was hesitant to buy this product as it's over $100 for a dog collar but it is worth every penny! My mother and father in-law have a an underground fence around their house and with my husband and I recently adopting a dog, we wanted to travel to their house with her. However, we didn't feel like she was ready to be let off her leash without the possibility of seeing another animal and running after it, out of the yard. We purchased this in hopes that she would learn the boundaries of underground fence and it worked like a charm! It was super easy to set up and it took her about 2 days to completely learn the boundaries. The collar will make a beeping noise if she gets close to the boundary line before shocking her if she goes past. She got shocked a couple of time within the first few days of wearing the collar, but now (about 3 months later) all it takes is for her to hear the beep and she can recognize that its a boundary marker. Such a great product for the money and worth the peace of mind my husband and I now get to have while she's wearing this collar! ... show more
