  • 5 Stars for application - 4 stars for set up.
Style: Guardian GPS Fence Collar
For ease of setup, I gave the PetSafe Wireless Pet Containment System a 4 stars, but for actual use, it is definitely worth 5 stars for performance. We adopted a 3 year old mixed breed (30lbs, looks like a hound-mix) who has escaped our 6-foot tall privacy fence by digging under the concrete footer, by chewing a hole and yanking a board loose, and by dashing out the gate. He is an inside dog and we have a pet door, which allows him (and our other dogs) access in and out as they wish. It is almost as if he becomes overcome when he gets a whiff of something and just goes nuts trying to hunt it down. The third and last time he escaped he was found nearly a mile away across a busy road, which made us finally face that we needed a more drastic approach before our little guy gets himself killed (or one of the other dogs, who like to go with him). So with deep reservations and regret, we overnight ordered one of these systems. Neither of us liked the idea of a shock-collar, but were at a loss as to what else we could do to keep the little guy safe from his own instincts. It took two of us about 2 hours to set it up. The difficult part, ironically, was the shape of our lot (narrow and deep) and house (three stories) compared to the spherical size of the electronic boundary. In order to allow our dog access to as much of the backyard as possible but not more than the fence, we had to not only change the strength of the field but move the transmitter until he also had access to the front part of the house. He still cannot quite get all the way to the front of the house upstairs but it was the best we could do. The transmitter (which is HUGE) has to sit on a table in our central hallway on the second floor in order to give him the access we wish. Something I wish we had known before we bought it was that you are not intended to leave the collar on the dog 24/7, but rather to put it on him just when he is being let out. We have conditioned ours to wear it during the day, then we take it off at night when we close the dog-door. Hopefully he will not get raw where the electrodes touch him (that seems to be the concern with leaving it on too long). So if like us, you normally give your dog free run of both house and yard and want to use this to limit escaping it might not be the best option (though if like us you are at your wits-end as to keeping your dog safe, it might be one of your only options shy of an in-ground system). The electronic part of the collar is large and not suited to small dogs. It looks large on our 30lb dog and he has a very stout 14" neck. I can't imagine putting it on a 10lb dog. Setting the charge on it: So once we were happy with the field we went to test it. My son-in-law happily volunteered to be the guinea pig. We set it on 4 as that seemed to be the strength recommended for medium sized short-haired dogs (shock settings are 2-6). My son-in-law got quite the shock (he had it across his palm). So we turned it down to 2 (the lowest setting that shocks) before putting it on the dog. When he crossed the line and it shocked him he yelped, reared up and nearly flipped over. It was painful to watch. Fortunately after that he was quite cowed by just the beeping. I've only seen him get shocked one other time and that was sadly in the house. Unfortunately it made him loathe to go outside at all at first, so that created issues with house-training. But better to have to re-crate train him than to have him escape and get run over. This has improved recently as he has gotten used to his new restrictions and I'm confident he will be fine. At least now he does not have to be leashed indoors in order to keep him from sneaking off to do his business where he should not. The last week I have let him have free-reign while on collar with no issues. But it is an unexpected consequence that other pet-parents should be aware of when considering this system. Overall, I am so glad it has stopped him escaping, but still wish this had not been necessary. ... show more

  • Inaccurate GPS shocked my dog continuously in my house
Style: Guardian GPS Fence Collar
Easy setup. Theoretically can create a fence when camping, at the in-laws, etc. I set it up for our family’s camp. The gps map showed my dog was about half the property away (100’) from where she was right next to me. There were a lot of trees, so I wasn’t terribly disappointed. I walked the collar around the perimeter and it seemed to work 75% or the time. Not great… I later brought it home and set up a virtual fence around our ~1 acre yard. Didn’t work at all. It showed the collar across the road while I was holding it in my hand inside my house setting up the virtual fence. I figured maybe the roof is affecting this. I take it out to the middle of the front yard- no change. A few hours later it appears to be working within 25’ or so. Good enough I think… a couple days later we’re letting our dogs inside the house and the collar starts to shock my dog (continuously). She’s bucking around while my wife and I are trying to wrangle her and pull the collar off. A week later we try again. Doggo is sitting on the couch with the kids watching cartoons when the collar starts shocking her continuously (again). We get it off and I check the gps location and it shows the collar two houses down…. I called customer service and they said sometimes the gps system suddenly loses signal and puts the location at a generic point (like 00000x/0000y), then when it reconnects it’ll default to the centroid of the active fence and not move until the whole system is reset. While that info was cool to know it doesn’t keep my dog safe. Pretty worthless. 550 dollars and 100 for a yearly subscription. Maybe I got a dud, but I don’t recommend. ... show more

  • Durable and reliable fencing collar that works Durable and reliable fencing collar that works
Style: Guardian GPS Fence Collar
Before trying the PetSafe Fencing Collar, I went through other cheaper alternatives that didn’t work consistently and left me second-guessing. Since I love the PetSafe Dog Door, I decided to give this collar a try. The first week was rough because the collar shocked my dog a few times, which made me feel awful. It wasn’t the product’s fault; it was mine. I was so eager to use it that I skipped reading the instructions properly. I just slapped the collar on and expected it to work without much input from me. I went back to the manual and followed the step-by-step training process. I used the “beep-only” mode and walked my dog along my yard’s boundary while reinforcing the training with treats and praise. I also set up the provided boundary flags to give him a clear visual cue of where he could roam. Within a week, my dog fully understood his limits. Now, the collar rarely needs to correct him beyond the warning beep, and he stays within the yard even though the gate is open for him to run away. What I like is that the collar feels well-made, especially compared to the cheaper ones I tried in the past. It fits my dog comfortably, and the battery lasts for weeks before needing a recharge. The static correction is gentle but effective, and I really appreciate how customizable the entire system is. What I love most is the peace of mind this collar gives me. My dog now enjoys the freedom to run and play in the yard without me worrying about him escaping. The PetSafe Fencing Collar is durable, effective, and does require to have enough WiFi to cover the range in which the dog roams. While I learned the hard way that proper training is key, once I did it right, this collar worked like a charm and I’m happy to keep it. ... show more

  • Not Accurate
Style: Guardian GPS Fence Collar
I love the idea, but for the price product needs a lot of work. I had high hopes for the PetSafe Guardian GPS, but unfortunately, it fell short in several areas. The GPS accuracy is inconsistent; there were frequent discrepancies between the actual location and what the app showed. Additionally, the app interface is clunky and not user-friendly. It often lags or fails to update in real-time, which can be frustrating in critical moments. Battery life is also disappointing; I found myself needing to recharge it far too often. Overall, it’s not worth the investment for the peace of mind it promised. ... show more

  • Good option to more expensive collars
Style: Guardian GPS Fence Collar
I wasn't sure at first, but as I use this collar, I like it more and more. Fortunately, my lab was already invisible fence trained, so he responds to the beeps just as he did with the radius type fence. The only issue I had was getting him to go outside the old boundaries. This collar works really well as long as he doesn't linger on my porch or under a tree too long where it loses the GPS connection. Most days it works really well, but occasionally there is a day it gets unasociated so much I just take off the collar. Fortunately some reason it thinks he has left the fence and beeps non stop until it reconnects. Also, there is a lag time to see where he is real time. I have 3 acres, so al in all this collar is way better than the radius type fence, even with the required subscription to use it. Gave a 4 star because, even though I like the collar, there are some things that I feel are kind of a pain. It is a pain to change fences and static level. You must take off the collar and restart it every time. When I first got it, had so much trouble chaging fences, I refrained from doing it; however, it seems to be easier now. Don't know if something changed or i am just getting better. I originally tried the collar because of the 30 day return option. If you try the collar, give it the full 30 days to decide. There is a slight learning curve to use this. Pros Good battery life. Easy fence build. Fair subscription cost. Cons Need decent cell service. Changing static correction and fences cumbersome. ... show more

  • Product not ready to sell to public.
Style: Guardian GPS Fence Collar
I purchased this GPS dog collar hoping for a reliable way to keep my Husky safely contained. Unfortunately, it's been a frustrating experience from the start, and I can't recommend it for most people. Fence Setup Issues: The fence setup is incredibly restrictive and confusing. The arbitrary rules about fence post placement are baffling. You can't create the shape you envision, and the software provides unhelpful error messages. I consistently received an "fence lines cannot overlap" error, even when the lines were clearly nowhere near each other. This made setting up a functional boundary incredibly difficult. Inaccurate and Unreliable GPS: The GPS accuracy is abysmal. My dog regularly receives shocks when he's well within the designated boundary, sometimes as far as 20 feet inside. This is completely unacceptable and unsafe. The random "no GPS signal" flashing white light on the collar is also a major concern. It happens far too frequently, even in areas where other GPS devices work flawlessly. This unreliability makes me extremely nervous about trusting this collar to keep my dog safe. Difficult Setup and Glitchy Performance: Even as someone who's comfortable with technology, the setup process was a nightmare. The collar and app don't always behave as expected, likely due to the frequent GPS signal issues. This inconsistent performance makes it impossible to rely on. Overall: This collar does a poor job of fulfilling its basic function. The inaccurate GPS, confusing fence setup, and frequent signal drops make it unreliable and potentially dangerous for your dog. I strongly advise looking for a more dependable GPS dog collar if one even exists. ... show more

  • Your dog will be fearful of their own yard!!!
Style: Guardian GPS Fence Collar
Absolute garbage! I returned my collar 3 times for malfunctioning. The collar would shock my dog within the fence so bad that she was afraid to go outside and started going potty in the house! On 3 different occasions the collar didn't tell me that she left the fence and we searched for 2 days and finally found her. That was so scary, she was terrified and cold.Every time I called petsafe they tried saying maybe I didn't have good LTE in my area or maybe I have too many trees. I have excellent cell service here and I live on 2.5 acres with probably an acre pond and a clear yard. I have a couple trees but not enough to interfere. I don't know why I let them talk me into trying it 3 times!! The last time they sent me a brand new one it lasted 2 days before it started going crazy. It shocked my poor girl so bad that she went flying off the porch and crying so bad. I had to bribe her with treats just to come back so I could get the collar off of her and just as she came back inside the collar shocked her again! I was so heartbroken because I don't think she's ever going to get over this. I went with the halo collar this time and it is amazing! You can interact with your dog through the app and it has a wonderful design and amazing features like it goes into pause mode when inside so that it won't shock them. Another thing I love is that it has a walk feature which you can click that way you don't have to take the collar off! I have turned petsafe into the BBB and they haven't responded. ... show more
