I was so excited to order this. I installed it differently in the track of the screen instead of in the track of the glass so that the glass could be closed behind it. This method worked well the only problem was my dogs were terrified of it no matter how I tried I could not get them to use it. I ended up having to send it back and I was super disappointed,because I had really high hopes. Product is great though my dogs are just wimps. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I was torn between getting the Large or the extra Large door because the Large says the max width is <9 inches and he's a touch over 10inches wide, but he's only 65lbs and no where near the 100+lbs the XL door is rated for. Good news is he fits no problem! He is 10.25in wide, 21in tall and 65lbs. It was hard to find this info anywhere so hope it helps someone else. The door is pretty nice. Install was pretty easy. Requires a drill but it's straightforward enough for most to DIY it. Only complaint is the weatherstipping it comes with is garbage. Save yourself the time and order some at the same time. For me, having the door properly sealed is a pretty important aspect due to the cost of running the AC to keep the house cool. Also similar issue with the dog flap, doesn't seem like it's going to keep the cold air in and hot air out very well. 4 stars for the decent construction, ease of install, but lack of proper weather stripping. ... show more

We ordered this for our three Basset Hounds. The height of our installed panels is just over 76 inches. I had this door out of the shipping box and installed in all of 10 minutes (if that). I did not drill a single hole in the dog door, the existing slider, nor did I install the dog door lock. No need for any of that. I cut a piece of wood that I use between the existing sliding door and the left wall and the door is more than secure. The flap is also very secure. Some folks claim that the wind opens their flap. I don't see that happening with our door. Flap is very secure. That flap is so secure that one of my dogs is still timid to go in and out of the door because the magnet is so tight to the frame. She will get it. She's just a timid pup. Because the door is so thin (compared to the slider), I did have to stuff pieces of hard cardboard into the top of the door (on both sides) to keep the door straight up and down. You can't see the cardboard as i stuffed it deep inside the frame. I also stuffed the same material about 1/3 of the way down and 2/3 of the way down the door. Today, this thing doesn't move a fraction of an inch. I have it very secure. Weather stripping was just fine. No need to go out and by new stripping as some did. If you install the weather stripping in the right area, what is in the box should be good for most people. The existing slider had a 1/8 inch space about 1 foot from the floor up the door in the weather stripping. But after using the piece of wood to "lock" the door, I now see that the door is flush is with the dog door with NO wood being used during the day. Not sure how this fixed itself, but it did! The space between the dog door and the existing slider is perfect for us to walk through. We do not need to walk through the space sideways as some people do. We can easily walk in and walk out as if there was no dog door on the frame. That said, if someone larger than us comes over, our we have a cookout with people that are larger than us, we would need to remove the door for the day so people could easily get through the door. The door would pop out in seconds and back in rather quickly. I will say, if I could make one of these dog doors myself, I would make the metal piece under the flap lower to the ground. We have a 14 year old girl that has to step up and then step down because it is so high. So I put 5 pieces of tile on the outside deck, making it easier for her to get in, though she still struggles to get out. This is our third dog door over the years. The other two were installed into the home, not doors like this one. We are pleasantly pleased for the ease of installation and the price we paid for this door. GREAT buy!! ... show more
