πŸš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The product in review is a pet door which is celebrated for its sturdiness and perfect fit on tracks. Installation is generally easy and pets, especially cats, enjoy using the door once they become accustomed to it. A recurring concern by users is the absence of a side-lock, which has been creatively substituted by drilling a hole for latches. However, the product gets a thumbs up for being customizable.

Pros

  • πŸ‘ Sturdiness
  • πŸ‘ Easy to install
  • πŸ‘ Suitable for pets, particularly cats
  • πŸ‘ Customizable lock feature

Cons

  • πŸ‘Ž Absence of a side lock becomes frustrating for some users
  • πŸ‘Ž The door may not fit perfectly in uneven or older houses
  • πŸ‘Ž Not very energy efficient

Should I Buy It?

If you have pets and would like to offer them a convenient way to move in and out of the house, this product is a good buy. Its sturdiness and easy installation are commendable. Although the absence of a side lock can be a con, the product allows room for customization, a solution many users have employed. The door may not be as energy efficient as expected and can cause a large gap in uneven or older houses, so make sure to measure your area accurately before purchase. Overall, the advantages of this pet door appear to outweigh the cons.

  • Overall great
Size: Medium
The door is sturdy, as described, and has a perfect track fit with easily adjusted height. It’s a little frustrating that many, most, or all of these do not have a place on the side for a lock. I was able to drill out a hole in the side and place a small screw through that will catch the latch on the existing sliding door. The door comes with a track lock, but who wants to bend down to the floor to lock or unlock the door every time. I definitely give the product a strong 4-5 rating due to ability to customize a little. ... show more

  • Good pet door
Size: Medium
Easy to install on rear patio sliding door situated in a screened area. Not wanting to drill into frame to secure so added a piece of wood to track on other side of door to act as a deterrent to would be thief. Cat took several days to get used to the flap. Good decision to purchase.

  • See review Only 3 stars.
Size: Medium
Easy to install, but not very sturdy without drilling holes in a rental unit. The magnetic flap does not clear the slider’s interior threshold. This doesn’t make it very energy efficient.

  • Extra Installation Tips for the Tall Door Panel
Size: Medium
I must say I was quite nervous about ordering a large piece of glass online, but it did arrive safely. The box was a little beat up, but the panel was not damaged. This seems to be a very good, solid product, but it does not install as easily as the website video makes it out. They describe the standard height door panel, but the 96" high panel has a few more things you will find yourself doing. Let me add this to the installation process: 1. The manufacturer does not include near enough weatherstripping to complete this installation. This seems to be a common complaint from everyone! SAVE THE MANUFACTURER SUPPLIED FOAM WEATHERSTRIP FOR THE DOOR TO PANEL CONNECTION. It's thin enough to make a good seal. Buy some other THIN weatherstrip to use between the panel and the door frame. I had numerous protruding screw heads attaching the door frame to the wall. This would not allow the panel to butt to the frame, so some thin weatherstripping was needed to make the seal. 2. The 96" panel comes in two pieces that have to be assembled. When attaching the door assembly to the bottom of the window panel you may need a small piece of thin weatherstrip between the two. They did not butt together evenly and I had to fill the small gap with something. 3. When drilling the lower hole to attach the panel to your door frame, go higher than the instruction recommended 12". If not, you will be drilling into the solid aluminum bar that connects the door panel to the window panel! Go a few inches higher to make sure you're drilling into the hollow panel frame. 4. The door latch they supply will not keep any intruder from prying open your sliding glass door. If you choose to use a security bar between the door and the far door frame REMEMBER your door is not closed all the way! You will need a security bar that either compresses enough to fit or purchase one that can be cut down to fit. I used the Ideal Security Patio Door Security Bar and cut it to fit the reduced distance needed to lock it in place. What looked like a breeze in the video did take an afternoon of test fitting and adjusting. But once installed this seems to be a solid product. It took my girlfriend's cat (yes, I said my girlfriend's cat) only one evening to figure it out and now he happily goes to and from the patio without me trying to air condition all of South Florida! ... show more

  • Easy to install -- in a perfect world.
Size: Medium
The concept of this design does make it easy to install--if your house is new and perfectly level. My house is going on 19 years old and either settling or poor craftsmanship has made my patio slider uneven. But before I get into that, if you have a patio door with a latch built into the side that catches on one built into the jamb--you'll have to remove it. And any screws that aren't flush mount to the frame or door. Mine weren't flush. I slid the unit in and that part was very easy. But with the bottom flush against the frame and level, a gap was gradually created about 1/2 way up that grew to be over an inch wide at the top. I adjusted the door pitch so that it was perfect on the opening side, but there was no way to correct the gap except to go out and buy A LOT of weather stripping. I also purchased a seal kit so that it looked "finished" on the interior and added a decorative edge. The rubber strip they supply to attach to the far end of the door to seal the open gap doe works if you reinforce it. The glue strip attached to it is not enough. The weight of the rubber alone will pull it down. It will also come off if you slide the door open or shut due to friction. Rubber tends to stick to glass. I suggest you buy some pro strength carpet tape and put a strip of that on as well. The tape I have is probably the stickiest, strongest tape I've ever seen. It did the trick and it works fine now. I suppose you could use screws but be careful of cracking the glass. Forget about using the foam weather stripping supplied to attach to the opening side of the door -- they only give 80" --which is the size of the regular unit without the extension for larger doors. Why give an 80" strip for a 96" door? If you want to seal the gap, go buy some extra because you won't have enough. I purchased some and found the door actually shut tighter to the unit without it. I live in Arizona so rain and wind aren't that big of an issue. After a couple hours of frustration and a drive to the hardware store, the unit was finally installed. It took a couple days before my cats decided it wasn't scary and started using it. The rubber smell of the flap doesn't appeal to cats. Once the smell wore off a little, they were more open to learning how it worked. Now they are in and out all day and night and I don't have to get up to open the door 50 times a day. Worth the price and frustration just for that alone. You can avoid having my frustration by buying weather strip and super sticky tape in advance. You can always return that stuff if you live in a perfect world! ... show more

  • Great door for pets! My cats loved it!
Size: Medium
It tooks a while for my cats to get use to going through the door. I have to prop up the flap so they can pass through. Once they got used to it. I let the flap down. Great product!
