Frequently asked questions

The PetSafe Drinkwell Pagoda Pet Fountain cycles water through an included carbon and foam filter. This ensures that the water your pet drinks is always fresh, clean and free from any harmful contaminants. The cycling process also helps keep the water oxygenated, which makes the water more appealing and hydrating for your pet.

The fountain has a water capacity of 70 ounces or approximately 2 Liters. This is ideal for small to medium-sized pets and means that you won't have to refill it constantly. The size also allows it to fit seamlessly into most spaces in your home.

The PetSafe Drinkwell Pagoda Fountain is elevated to provide a more comfortable drinking position for your pet. This can be especially beneficial for older pets or those with arthritis who might find bending down to drink uncomfortable.

The free-falling water in the PetSafe Drinkwell Pagoda Fountain serves two main purposes. First, it entices pets to drink more, as the movement of water is naturally appealing to them. Second, as the water falls, it helps to aerate the water, increasing the oxygen content which enhances the taste and keeps the water fresher for longer.

  • Amended review for a great product.
Color: White Style: Fountain
I love this fountain. It operates without a sound other than the babbling of falling water. I can place it right against the wall and it doesn't intrude into my table space as a round fountain does. It's heavy. Solid. Will not be jostled. The ceramic parts are well-glazed and seem as sturdy as a toilet bowl. It cleans effortlessly even without a dishwasher. I put it together easily, despite my spatial dyslexia. Or at least for me, it went together more easily than most similar projects. Both cats took to it immediately. It's important to note that the Amazon photo accurately displays the speed of flow-- this is not a dribble or a trickle, but an actual pour. My cats love the predictability of its flow. No water up the nose. I rate this fountain 5+. This is an amendment of my review in which I had rated this fountain just 3 stars because I couldn't find a way to get the two little flexible pieces, the cap and grommet, as replacement parts. My letter to Radio Systems Corporation, owner of Petsafe, was answered immediately and in person. If you call their toll-free number, any of the parts for this fountain are available. Most are covered under warranty and shipped free. More about their quality customer service: I also, um, ruined the pump. With too many thoughts in my head and not enough brain power to hold them, I thought, "oh! I have to remember to turn on the pump before I fill the fountain with water." Yes. Exactly. So I ran to it with a pitcher of water when I heard the grind. The pump gratefully drank up all the water but thereafter could only dribble it out while making a sad growling sound. Since I already had a company representative on the line, I wanted to double-check which of the replacement pumps I needed to order. She said she might be able to help me without my having to buy a pump. She then walked me through the process of lubing the motor-- and it sounded easy to do. I'm doing it this afternoon. If it's so far gone that lubing doesn't help, I'll buy a new pump, and happily. (Truly--I really do know better than to run a water pump without water in it.) Addendum: I have dismantled and reassembled this fountain many times now. Although at first I was concerned that the flexible pieces were not sufficiently sturdy to survive my clumsy handling, I have been delighted by their will to survive. As mentioned previously, I had been so certain that I would tear the rubber grommet while cleaning that I wanted an extra set of the flexible pieces on hand. They seemed delicate, and I have pudgy fingers. Actually, the rubber parts that I deemed flimsy have survived my mishandling. I drop them, stretch them, send them sproinging across the room and then step on them. (This is not intentional.) They still look new. I have not yet abused the plastic parts. For those of us who have voided the warranty by setting them on fire or dropping them into the disposal, they are available for sale on their website. It's important to keep this fountain quite full-- no lower than an inch below the rim of the lower part. It says so in the manual, and I can hear the difference when it drops below that level. I don't know whether the pump is actually harmed by a water level lower than that, but the cats do not appreciate the bit of splash that occurs when the water must fall a greater distance. I use pre-filtered water, or even distilled water, so the filters in the pump need not worry themselves about detritus beyond cat-fur and paw-wash. Our well-water has a high iron content, so I think that using pre-cleaned water extends the life of the filters. Nonetheless, for two cats I have been replacing the water once a week, replacing the charcoal filter and rinsing the foam filter every two weeks, and replacing the foam filter once a month. I could probably reduce the frequency of replacing filters, but this is the schedule easiest for me to remember. This is an A+ product. My cats love it, it is a tranquility-producing bit of home decor, and it is well made by a cheerful and responsive company. ... show more

  • PURR-FECT PET FOUNTAIN
Color: White Style: Fountain
Purr-fect ( : My cat, Maia, loves this fountain. Almost all cats prefer running water. It's important to keep cats hydrated, especially older cats, as they tend toward kidney disease. FORM: The quality is nice. It looks almost exactly like our white Corningware dishes. The shape is stylish and something a little different. The footprint is large enough that your pets will have a good sized area from which to drink. FUNCTION: I've had it only a month, but it's running well. NOISE LEVEL: I don't hear the pump running, just the water. It's running water; it makes some noise, but keep it topped off and it should not bother anyone. Tip, keep a water pitcher by the unit and that way you can top it off as you are feeding your pets Set it somewhere that you frequent often, their feeding station is best. DESIGN: 3 places to drink: top register, bottom register, and the stream. FAT STREAM THAT PROJECTS FROM THE UNIT I really LOVE the fat stream and how far it extends from the top piece as it falls to the lower level. This is a great design feature my cat gets her face under the stream and laps large drinks of water quickly. Earlier fountains did not have a good stream like this one. MAINTENANCE: DO YOUR JOB ( : You need to keep it topped off. There will be evaporation and animals will love it, so they will drink more. TOP IT OFF MORE OFTEN THAN YOU THINK YOU SHOULD--2X A DAY. DON'T LET THE WATER RUN DRY, YOU WILL RUIN THE PUMP. CLEANING Clean it every 5 days.REALLY. Clean more often if your animals shed or drop dirt into the unit. Pet saliva will make it get slightly slimy where they lick. THE FILTRATION IS NOT MEANT TO REPLACE CLEANING. DON'T BE LAZY, THIS THING IS GREAT BUT YOU HAVE TO CLEAN IT FREQUENTLY. You can run the ceramic bits in the dishwasher, but your pets will miss it while it's running ( : and you still have to clean the other parts well by hand: foam filter charcoal filter charcoal filter casing silicone nipple to keep water from flowing back out the unit. REPLACING FILTRATION The foam filter that goes round the pump should keep any dirt and debris from getting in the pump. The company sells replacements, but I imagine it will last long time. It's not purifying the water, it's catching hair. You can use it till it falls apart, or you cannot clean it any more, or it becomes slimy, because you don't clean it often. I have this same material in my fish filtration and it's lasted years. RINSE IT WELL EACH TIME YOU CLEAN THE UNIT. The charcoal filtration unit is sealed, and it fits down inside the filter case. IT'S SEALED AND THAT MEANS IT'S DESIGNED TO BE SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE. CARBON FILTRATION, IF YOU CARE TO MAINTAIN IT, REQUIRES FREQUENT REPLACEMENT. HACK POTENTIAL: HIGH just replace the mesh top with a thin piece cut from an aquarium filter pad ,add bulk purchased aquarium charcoal and secure with a thin rubber band INSTRUCTIONS: The unit comes with simple instructions and LOOK AT THE DIAGRAM THE FIRST TIME. IF YOU CLEAN YOUR UNIT AS OFTEN AS YOU SHOULD THEN PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER WILL BE EASY--YOU WILL REMEMBER. EASE OF CLEANING: It's a little work, but not that difficult TROUBLE SHOOTING Unplug the entire unit or at least take the part that leads to the fountain out of the power source first ( : Don't necessarily carry the unit to the sink - -BECAUSE YOU WILL SPILL WATER ( : It's also a bit heavy with water in it, so even if it didn't tend to spill, you might drop it. Have a bucket near the unit and dump out the water first AFTER YOU HAVE UNPLUGGED IT--DON'T FORGET Same thing on the return trip, put the unit down, THEN put the water in the unit from a pitcher DON'T PLUG IT IN UNTIL YOU HAVE IT FILLED. TO CLEAN: Take the empty unit apart at the sink and wash it really well make sure to rinse all the parts, and scrub the silicone bits really well with your fingers--they get slimy. I use Isopropol alcohol every so often--rinse it well. I dunno if it's ideal for the silicone parts, but it's fine for the ceramic. SHOULD YOU GET ONE? POSSIBLY: ASK YOURSELF THIS---AM I GOING TO MAINTAIN IT PROPERLY--IT'S A LITTLE WORK--BE HONEST. If you are lazy, don't bother. You can't just leave a pump to run dry, you will burn out the unit in no time. And if your idea is to give your cat or dog fresh running water, you will defeat the purpose if you don't top it off, or you don't clean it often enough. Otherwise, just buy glass bowls and change them out daily. DOES YOUR PET HAVE KIDNEY DISEASE OR ANY MEDICAL CONDITION THAT MAKES IT EVEN MORE IMPORTANT THAT THEY DRINK MORE? YES. GET IT. RANKING: HIGHEST---THIS IS THE SINGLE BEST FOUNTAIN ANYONE IN MY FAMILY HAS OWNED AND THIS IS #3 My cat drinks so much more with this unit. BONUS: SHE NO LONGER FEELS THE NEED TO JUMP ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER OR THE BATHROOM COUNTER TO PESTER PEOPLE FOR WATER EVER FIVE MINUTES. Let's get real though, this unit costs about eighty dollars. I would say, if you can afford it, it's a good investment in your pet's health And, if your cat has kidney issues, it's going to help immensely, because it will tempt a cat that is not drinking enough, so in this case, you might hold off on vet administered painful under the skin water treatments or an earlier death. ... show more

  • Wonderfully Designed, but Louder than Expected
Color: Himalayan Blue Style: Fountain
I bought this to replace a Catit water fountain that my cat has been reliably using for over a year. I like that this has a water bowl that they can drink from in case the power fails, and the porcelain seemed very easy to clean—especially as our hard water tends to leave mineral deposits. This fountain also has a pleasant look that I thought would be more attractive in our living room. This was everything I hoped it would be, in almost every way. It is an exceptionally well-designed and well-made product, BUT, I will be returning it, because it is too noisy. Other reviews have noted this, but I want to clarify, the noise issue is with the falling water, not the pump. The pump is the most thoughtfully designed I've seen on something like this, and it runs nice and quiet. The falling water, on the other hand, sounds like a heavy stream falling into a bowl. If you like or specifically want the constant sound of pouring water, then this is absolutely for you, but if you're expecting a quiet burbling, this may be a bit much. Like I said, everything else about this is great. Assembly is pretty easy if you follow the directions. It is super easy to clean. The design is very thoughtful. But, it's too noisy for the humans in our house, and our cat hasn't touched it, we assume for the same reason. ... show more
