I have four cats, 2 are larger. A Maine coon and Siberian. Maine coon used to exclusively drink water from the bathtub tap. I hated keeping it on but he would refuse to drink standing water. This fountain is wonderful. Easy to clean, holds plenty of water for all of my cats to drink. I have it slightly elevated on a short box and keep a towel under it because some of the cats will play with the water and splash it a bit (thankfully not much). Overall very worth the money. I’ve had it for a few months now and all is well. I give it a deep clean it once a week. UPDATE: 8 months in and had to replace the water pump. Noticed that even after a deep clean the pump was weak. Thankfully we had a replacement already and the fountain is like new again! It is an absolute MUST to give this fountain a deep clean weekly. Remember to change the filters and rinse them before use!! Altogether I still love this and my cats have been drinking water like mad now that it’s summer. UPDATE: This fountain is still working out great for my cats. I try to use only filtered water and give it a deep clean every 1-2 weeks. Hope it continues to last a long time. I’ve had not issues with the replacement pump so maybe the first pump was a lemon. ... show more

This is my 2nd Drinkwell. The motor failed on my Original Drinkwell (after 8 to 10 years of service) so I decided to buy a new fountain instead of replacing just the motor. I disagree with most of the negative reviews. The new fountain is not loud. If anything it is less noisy than my Original Drinkwell. I suspect people did not assemble if properly. Assembly was easy once I peaked at the owner's manual and understood the newer design. Cleaning and filter replacement is easy. I think new plastic finish is easier to clean than my previous Original Drinkwell. Just like my Original Drinkwell I suspect it needs to be cleaned once a month or so. So-it does what it's supposed to. It has a huge capacity water dish, a super small pump that pulls water through a debris filter, pushes it up through a charcoal activated filter and fills a small dish/reservoir at the top. Then it flows through a small spout and creates flowing water. A little bit of a hum/vibration (plastic on plastic or tile, we tried it on a mat, still the noise.) The real issue is the cleaning. It's easy, but takes 10-15 minutes, not really long, but a bowl is so easy-guess I'm getting lazy. They made it easy, the tube is actually two halves, so you don't have to use a bottle type brush. The foam debris filter and charcoal filter last maybe a month, so there's a recurring cost. Just know what you're getting. We're going to give ours away. ... show more

I was excited to buy a bigger water fountain for my 2 dogs and 3 cats. My 1/2 gallon ceramic fountain had to be filled so often, especially during this heat wave we have a lot of it evaporate during the day. The old fountain had a very quiet motor and filtered water very well; the water simply had to be replenished too often. I value PetSafe brand products and was excited to receive this. Setup was easy. My dogs adapted to it immediately. First impression was I was surprised how loud this fountain is. I might as well leave my kitchen sink faucet running all day; it really is that annoying. Most importantly, it doesn't do what a filtered fountain is supposed to do, and that is keep the water clean. My old fountain only needed a good cleanout and complete exchange every 1-2 weeks. This thing is filthy is less than 1 day. Dirt and debris settled to the bottom. And the aggravation of having to carry 1.5 - 2 gallons of water to sink and empty, take apart, and refill every 2 days is ridiculous. Honestly, at this point it is easier and cleaner to simply have a large dog bowl and empty it out daily. I am on the lookout for a better fountain that is large enough to accommodate all my animals, but still keep the water as clean as possible ... show more

So many reviews complain that the pump just died after a short time. We experienced the same thing after about four months of heavy use. We were very disappointed but by then our animals had fallen in love with the water fountain, so we bit the bullet and spent $20 on the replacement pump. When my husband was removing the old one, he noticed a lot of black guck all over it and suggested we try a few tablespoons of vinegar and warm water to try to clean it. EUREKA!! There was nothing wrong with the old pump after all, it was just clogged with black charcoal bits from the filters. The amount of gunk that blew out of this pump once we started cleaning it was unbelievable. The picture above shows guck still coming out after four bowls of water. This fountain is a wonderful way to provide fresh water to your pets. We have three dogs and three cats so there is a lot of action around the water bowls. If your pump dies, we highly recommend that you remove the pump, place it in large bowl of clear water with a few TBS of vinegar and with a toothbrush scrub it a bit and then try to run the pump. Once it starts pumping again, keep changing the water until it runs clear and your pump will be good as new. After this incident, we realized that we need to spend more time rinsing the charcoal filter before putting it in so that there is less debris to clog the pump. But then we also wondered if we really even needed the the charcoal filter.... In any case, our dogs and cats are happy as ever and we remain huge fans of this water bowl. ... show more
