I used this carrier for the first time yesterday. We had an appointment to have our cat looked at, so he went into the carrier and we carried him to the car. When we reached the car, we noticed that his nose was bleeding and there was skin hanging down from it. Upon inspection, we noticed that he had scraped the entire first layer of skin off his nose when sticking his nose through one of the oval-shaped air holes on the side of the kennel. I am very disappointed and honestly, shocked that a cat carrier would do this to an animal. When I inspected further, I noticed that the holes were in fact very sharp and dangerous. Unfortunately, we can no longer use this carrier because it puts our cats in a position in which they could be badly hurt. I am hoping this will not happen to any other animals.

This carrier seemed to be working well for the first year or so I had it. My kitty is long and tall and needed a bigger carrier than most. She seemed to like it and even slept in it at times. However, when I recently shut the front door on her in order to keep her from bolting when the vet entered the room (her vet comes to the house), she got very upset and ended up with a cut on her nose. It seemed to me that the inside of a crate should be a safe place, but in feeling around inside I realized that those little peep and vent holes are ragged and sharp on the inside of the carrier. I consider this extremely shabby and unsafe workmanship and the carrier is going out for trash pickup tomorrow night.

Just got this today, I finally got something better suited for my large cat. We are a military family so move often and this will work great for our upcoming move this summer. I was having a hard time finding something I liked, was a decent price and big enough but not too big. I was skeptical on ordering this, afraid it may be too small or end up with the wrong bolts as many reviews stated but everything worked out great. Make sure to order it from Amazon as the seller and i think that takes care of the bolt issue some were having. Size.. I can't say exactly his weight but i know he's about 15lbs, he has plenty of room to stand up and turn around if he'd like, with some toys. He's never had a crate before but surprisingly seems to like it, I have it left out for him to come and go as he pleases so when its time to shut him in maybe it won't be so traumatic (He has a very hard time traveling!) Love that the top opens up as i know that tends to be easier to use when they are a bit panicked (like at the vet). He's 7 years old and set in his ways so I'm glad to see he's taken a liking to it. I'll post some pics to hopefully help others with size questions as i found photo reviews the most helpful for me

The “new” kennel arrived clearly used with dried fecal matter smeared over the inside. As someone who works in the veterinary field, I have seen many dirty carriers in my day. This one was definitely used, pooped in, and returned without cleaning. It was also missing the top handle. Will definitely be returning. Beware if you buy used, they may not be cleaning or inspecting the returned carriers very closely.

The issue of sharp vent holes reported in 2017 and 2018 has not been resolved. My crate arrived today 1/16/2020 and based on the reviews of dangerous vent holes I inspected mine prior to assembly. I found one vent hole that had a sharp jagged edge that could have cut my cats nose too. I was able to sand it down smooth but am very disappointed with Petmate. The crate was easy to assemble, I really like the secure door latches and my cat likes it I would give this crate 5 stars if not for the poor quality control issue regarding the sharp jagged vent hole. Anyone purchasing this should inspect the inside vent holes prior to putting their pet into this crate

Having just adopted brother and sister kittens that are so adorable they deserve nothing but the best, I chose the Petmate two door top load pet kennel. When the two kennels arrived I felt like I had won the lottery. There are so many to choose from and I wanted one that was safe, secure and attractive and the Petmates checked the box on each level. To get the 5 month old kittens used to the kennels, I put them on the floor, side by side, with the front doors open. It only took minutes for them to look them over and decide to walk inside. I had also ordered MidWest Quiet Time Pet Beds (fleece~~22" x 13") for them and they fit perfectly. The side-by-side kennels reminded me of travel trailers (which they are in the end) so we call the space they occupy the "Trailer Park". The kittens are often in their "trailer homes" napping and I feel sure when I need to take them to the Vet's they won't be as spooked as if it was brand new. I heartily recommend you consider this product and the bed as well.

We used this for the first time yesterday, and sadly our cat escaped while we were walking to the car. While the carrier feels semi-sturdy, the plastic torques/bends just enough that the weight of the cat, along with the cat struggling to get out, makes it SUPER easy for the cat to unlatch the door and jump out. (Which is exactly what happened) When the plastic bends slightly, the latch is no longer catching and the door just pops right open. We managed to get him back in, and the SAME THING HAPPENED a second time. And, he ran off. We're heartbroken and worried... and, it is all because of this very unsafe carrier. PLEASE use with caution; I don't want want happened to us to happen to someone else, if possible
