Now this is what we needed!! I’ve only had cats and a couple 10 lb dogs inside. The small matching water and food containers were fine. Lasted over 10-15 years. In the process of rescuing a 78 lb Standard Poodle, I couldn’t keep enough water down to last a couple days! Even the little ones drank a lot but this big guy, well. So I finally found a 3 gal tank and it is PERFECT! Only clean it twice a week and it is plenty. The only thing is, when it’s full, you are doing weight training to get it feel the sink to the dispenser! It is VERY HEAVY! For now, my husband lifts it out for us but if I didn’t have him, I’d have to do less water at a time. I’ll never not have this type, tho. Love the larger but low bowl for them. And the new design of the resistance cap is perfect. So glad I tried it and will always have one! ... show more

Bought a slightly smaller size (3/4 gallon instead of 1 gal) for a few reasons, easier to get down and water replaced more often so fresher. Not a lot of water goes into the bowl, which I see as a plus, that way it replenishes more often as they drink and it's harder for them to spill. The lid on the jug is just plastic (no rubber to "seal"), so if you turn it upside down, it will leak and the jug itself, does not lock into the base. Generally the jug fits into slots, twist and it locks. This one just clicks in and you cannot hold it by the jug when putting it down. You apparently also can't tilt it backwards when lowering because water just streams out. Shouldn't if the jug is against the base, but it does. Base is pretty easy to wash/rinse out, no opening on top for water to go through so yo can keep the rest of the base dry. Most of this in unimportant if you can bend over to put the water down, but I use a wheelchair so have to do things differently. ... show more

I was pleasantly surprised at how well this works. The water reservoir simply unsnaps from the base, I fill it up, then turn the base upside down over the reservoir and snap it back on. It does leak a smidge when flipping it right side up, so I flip it over the sink. It doesn't stand out as a big clunky thing in the kitchen, rather, it sits nicely in the corner. One unexpected surprise is that the amount of dust and hair in the dish is significantly less than a stand alone bowl of water. I am not quite sure why, but it is wonderful. ... show more
