I had a pioneer pet stainless steel fountain for about 5 years. The pump was finally dying regularly, forcing me to take it apart to get it working. When I saw this one had the power mechanism that connected wirelessly to the pump, I knew I had to try it. This fountain is so much easier to refill and clean. I am no longer messing with cables. It has very good capacity and solid water flow. Our cats love it. The filters are well priced too. We only use reverse osmosis water, which should prolong the life of the pump. This is my fourth, and hopefully final, fountain I've bought for my cat. This checks ALL the boxes, even those I didn't know I needed. After 3 other fountains, I figured out what I was looking for: -Easy to clean (this was number ONE on my list) -Stainless steel basin -Quiet -Dependable company (to ensure the filters and fountains will be available to purchase down the road) I can't stress enough how EASY this is to clean. You don't need to unplug the device (which can be a huge headache if you want to keep the wire hidden)--you simply lift the basin off the base, which remains plugged in at all times. All of the components can then be easily cleaned by hand using the included pipe cleaner. This thing is also whisper quiet. I literally can't hear it, AT ALL. It also looks very clean and modern. The wood finish on the base is an especially nice touch. Now, the feature I didn't think I needed but is probably MY FAVORITE--the app. I always wondered how often my cat actually drank and would sometimes worry if I didn't SEE him drinking. However, the app literally tells me every time he drank, how much he drank, and for how long. It even tracks water consumption over time. It's a really great feature. Also, it tells you if you're water is running low and can act as a reminder for when to clean and change the filters. UPDATED This fountain has many great features but unfortunately my cats initially wouldn't drink from it despite using a similar round fountain in the past. The drinking alert isn't entirely accurate based on it saying a cat was using it but no cats were near it. We have a camera facing the fountain that verified the alert was inaccurate. However, it is extremely easy to clean since you remove the tank from the corded base and there are limited pieces. The pump is easy to take apart to clean. I do lack faith in the accuracy of the "water consumption" function. It was recommended by a friend and her cat does drink from it regularly. So if your cat will use it, like mine finally did, then it's 5 stars if you aren't as concerned with the reported water consumption accuracy. ... show more

I’m writing this review after buying this fountain about a year ago. This fountain is incredible and I wish I wouldn’t have wasted the money on the cheaper ones. It’s quiet, except when it’s low on water. When it’s low it’s not a real noise you hear but the trickling of water. It holds plenty for my one cat and I suspect it could support like 3. My cat is a little skittish and has been hesitant about previous fountains due to the noise or flow this one is perfect and the top holds a good depth (~.5 inch). The main selling point for me was the wireless function. It’s so much easier to be able to just take the top part off to clean and fill. I was really excited about the app but that was a letdown. It’s not great, the empty notifications are not accurate. It’s just okay. The pump really blew me away. When I purchased it I saw you could buy replacement pumps and I thought that was wonderful since a worn out pump was the reason I had to replace our last one. Well it came time to get one (I noticed the one it came with was starting to get some gross buildup) and when I went to purchase the new one I discovered you could take them apart easily to clean it which I was unaware of. The design of this fountain really allows for you to clean it perfectly every time. Now that I know the pump can be deep cleaned I have no doubt this fountain can last a very long time, even without replacing the pump. ... show more

    • Great if you need/want intake tracking

So not going to lie, I found this and said “it is a smart home device, I want it” the intent was low water alerts, which would be nice, I can’t seem to get it calibrated for more then 1 refill, but we learned what this bowl was really for, the hard way. Our cat started acting strange, eating less using the litter box way more often, like an entire pack of litter a week, not really playing or moving much, something was wrong. Then we were able to look at the intake logs and see her water intake went up from 8oz the first month we owned this to 16oz+. We made a visit to the vet show the logs and went for blood work, turns out of cat was diabetic, and her blood sugar level was getting very high, 490. Turns out of cat is pretty smart she was attempting to self regulate by eating less food full of sugar and flush her system with water, but that was not enough. She is now on insulin, doing very well back down to about 6oz water a day, very close to the normal amount of food, and for the most part back to her old self and playing, running around… we truly believe this water bowl saved her life, the stupid purchase according to my wife was actually one of the best investments. Our vet is even recommending this water bowl now based on our experience. The only downside is it is really only good for a 1 cat household as it will just combine the multiple cats water intake. So if you really care for your cat, and you would do anything to care for them, 100% get this water bowl, there is nothing else close (other then litter robot 4 tracking after the fact), worth every penny if you need it and if you are concerned. If you are the kind of person that is just going to say it is a cat, and when you have to deal with insulin and the cost of the appointments in the beginning, you are always just going to see this as a waste, there are $10-20 pet fountains that you would prefer.
