Let's face it, this isn't a professional, multiple thousand dollar FLIR device for the industry. It is in my opinion, perfect for the weekend warrior! Things I've used mine for: Home energy Audit (looking for missing insulation, finding drafts/leaks, looking for hot water pipes or HVAC venting, confirming the heat was making it to the vents throughout the house, etc. Super helpful. You can even see where you may be experiencing thermal bridging from your studs in the wall. The main reason I got this unit was to do a home energy audit and "see" where there was lack of insulation or drafts. In Minnesota, this makes a huge difference in the winter. Other uses: Engine diagnostics, easily see hot or cold areas of your engine and look for things that are overheating Circulation/blood flow, how much blood flow is getting to your toes/fingers? Does a beard actually provide insulation? etc. just for fun Find electronics, or diagnose electronics. Hidden cameras and other electronic devices often have thermal signatures that are easy to pick up. Also can help you see if power cords, extension cords, computers, etc. are overheating. Also great for finding electrical shorts, overheating batteries or electric motors, etc. Find animals at night! Warm blooded animals glow red on a cold night. Detect hot/cold water pipes, leaks, etc behind walls. Also, not so expensive that you feel you can't lend/rent it out. I also like that it's a stand alone unit. It has it's limitations, it's not a professional unit, you should understand this when deciding if this is something that is right for you. I think this a good option for the weekend warrior who might find it useful from time to time. It's a lot of fun and you can really visualize where you are losing heat or where the cold is getting into a house. The resolution is limited, it's only accurate to within 2%, it's not super fast, it takes some time to get used to, but man for $400, it's a really good option!

The smartphone-like sized IR0005 works wonders just as the IR0018. I bought this as a gift for my brother who works as a safety officer in a big hotel. One of his main jobs is to attend to people and reassure them things are alright. People can be edgy in a matter of seconds, but his job is to make them feel safe. To give them reassurances that there’s no imminent danger. Especially against fire. With the IR0005 in tow, my brother can now easily show people that the building is all well. No need for too much extra assurances. It’s more than enough. Clients feel they are taken care of which gives him instant credibility. He tells me that its great that he can carry the product in his pocket. Light enough to do that, which is fantastic. And high tech enough to brag about. Best of all, Micro SD card just works wonders and images can be easily and quickly downloaded. He tells me that he might even get another one for his home as this thermal cam is mighty and cheap at the same time. Best of both worlds.

Returned this as the image output was barely usable for my needs. It appears to need "tuning" to get the picture to be vaguely clear, and wasn't what i was looking for. I imagine this is representative of the price point, and a larger sensor (costing more) will probably match my expectations better. However, it do what it said it would do, so I only docked it one star

My love story with the IR0005 started with a fear. My husband runs a farm and even though we are not in Texas, the story of feral pigs running amongst the fields played to the worst of my fears. I thought we needed protection. So I started asking around to look into ways to protect our farm. A friend of mine is a sales manager of branded tires. It didn’t take him too long to recommend we get a thermal camera. But what model? Well, he showed me a lot of options. Many actually brought my jaw down. I was totally shocked at how the prices of these things can be prohibitive. It would cost us a fortune. Not until I was introduced to it by our HVAC maintenance man. As hot as the sun in summer, we made sure we get to a cold respite back in our abode. The expert told me to look at PerfectPrime’s thermal cameras. Indeed. I fell in love with the IR0005. Just truly cool. I can put it in my pocket. Most extraordinarily I can see people and animals even when they’re hidden amongst the bushes. We have a corn field now. Still, a wild hog can easily register heat. Even amongst the leaves. The last time our HVAC guy came, he taught me how to catch possums and rats camping out in the attic or in the roof space. Never thought that was possible. Now, I’m starting to feel I’m contributing greatly to our farm.

price has gone up 100 dollars since the rona i guess. paid 385usd at time. I have used multiple higher end IR platforms both imaging and sighting devices. this produces an acceptable image for areas with vast contrasts. if you want to see something very warm in a cold room, then this is for you. i wanted to use it to do inspections of windows, doors, exterior penetrations ect. I did not keep it, it was not user friendly for me and i was not impressed with the image speed and quality. for price there a better options. i will be trying the FLIR for cell phone,
