I purchased this filter to try to address a suspended algae problem in a 7' diameter x 4' deep pond I put in last summer. Already had a pond cartridge filter with charcoal and a second pump for circulation but wasn't having much luck. Decided on the larger version of this pump because of the promise of the UV filter and the volume of water I needed to move. The effects are not immediate, but as you can see in my pics it is a noticeable change. It took my pond a little longer than what others have posted. I think YMMV depending on the volume of water involved and how bad the algae is. I can highly recommend this pump to clean up suspended algae. ... show more

Cleared up the algae green water in my pond in about a week. If you have a similar situation, I recommend you run it for several days and then clean the filters. Though more expensive, the filters on this unit are much easier to clean than the CNZ All-In-One unit I had before. Deducting a star because of expense. Handle carefully and don't over tighten the connections which might break the cheap plastic parts. Instructions were vague and images didn't match the unit exactly. There was a sleeve connector attached at the bottom of the fountain tube that had to be unscrewed and placed higher to complete assembly. ... show more

    • Don't buy, broken fitting where pump attaches to filter, 5 phone calls and no customer service.

**Update** Five phone calls to the customer service. No one to speak to - the only option is to leave a voice mail, of which tells you they will contact you the next business day. The UV bulb is blown and the ring to screw the pump into the filter housing is broke, which is indicated in my original post. No one has called me back - wow, this is terrible customer service and I for one am extremely disappointed and do not recommend this unit to anyone. Bad design, bad customer service - just bad. I am purchasing another filter today and placing this unit in the garbage at the end of the week. Shame one you Pennington.....have the courtesy to serve your customers! I would give this unit a 5 star rating if it didn't break where the pump assembly is attached to the filter/UV housing. This is a known and documented problem for other users. Works as stated. Beautiful light for night display. Clear water, requires regular cleaning (monthly). Easy to clean and design is simple and straight forward. Bad design or inferior material for the screw sleeve to hold pump onto filer base/UV light. Screw collar is thin and breaks easily. No replacement part to order. Pump/fountain/light assembly is heavy and the attachment breaks. Currently at Home Depot looking for PVC fittings/collars/sleeves to adapt to support pump assembly to the filter base unity. I have seen comments regarding this same problem and my filter is only 2 months old, second time cleaning it. I picked up the filter base unit by the handle as directed and the pump assembly fell off as I removed it from the pond. ... show more

This pump and filter are amazing. Our water is crystal clear. We even had some plant issues and our whole liner was caked with algae and debris and the water is as clear as it gets. I only wish they made the next bigger size in this model, and make an easy replacement set for filters.

    • Clears pond up in no time!

Update 7/21/20. The pump is barely functioning. The output of water has gotten very poor and the pump continuously floats and turns on its side. I use a rock to hold it down. I've tried to keep it clean, rinsing filters a couple rimes a week. This filter is beautiful and efficient. I didn't notice my electric bill increasing so must not use much electric. My little fish pond was a mess when I got this and within 24 hours, it had it almost clear and 48 hours it was clear and clean! I accidentally dropped mine not long after getting it and broke off the light and I was devastated but someone was able to rewire and glue it back together so it is safe. So, if you buy one, be careful but I would definitely recommend this filter! ... show more

I have had this filter in my pond for 4 years and have had zero issues with it. It is actually the second one I've had because the first one was for a smaller pond that was upgraded to a larger pond. The filters and equipment are easy to clean and should be done bi-weekly for best results. Its easy to spray the gunk out of the filter pads and reuse over and over again. Replacement pads are inexpensive and only need to be purchased 1-2x/year. The flow rate is perfect and I love that I can divert the flow to the fountain feature and through a secondary UV filter or another water feature. I would definitely recommend it. ... show more
