I purchased this reel as new through Amazon. I inspected the reel when it arrived. The reel looked good at first glance. After closer inspection one of the logos looked slightly faded and worn. The other logo which is the same was bold and in excellent condition. I took this reel on vacation to Whidbey Isalnd, Wa. The reel worked well the first day, caught numerous pink salmon. On the second day, the reel started to squeak. By the third day the reel squeaked with every single crank. I cleaned the reel, but it still continues to have problems. I think this reel was refurbished. I’ve never had issues with a Penn within a two day period. Also, not a fan of the handle. Hand slips off periodically when your working the reel. They need to switch to the T-handles that are on the Battle III.

This review is about 60 days in the making...... bought this at the end of August 2021 and wanted to put some ample time for testing this before leaving a modest review First off, the reel is light as a feather, and as smooth as butter! I was really impressed with the Gen III line of reels for Penn, particularly the Battle and Clash models. I have used a Clash 4000 for over 4 years and since it needed some repairs, went with overall upgrading to the newer Clash II 4000. So far it has been spectacular. Has been great handling some mid-larger class fish, including a 35 inch striped bass from shore. It is spooled with 15lb power pro super slick v2, and has been a delight to fish with. I was especially impressed with the larger EVA knob option that they provide, along with the stock handle. That way you don't need to spend an extra $20-40 bucks on a larger knob handle, or Slammer III handle Small con I do have, is with the line roller. Seems as though if it is not slicked up enough, it will make a scratching noise upon retrieval when there is resistance on the line (even something as simple as retrieving a lure through the current). Little bit of oil seems to have helped, but drew some concerns given that I have not even had this reel for a couple months. Also $230 is a bit of a steep price jump, whereas the Battle reels are about $100 less and also viable options for light tackle fishing. Even the older Clash models were in the $150-180 range..... so hopefully the price can come down a bit in due time when newer reels are made available With the line roller, and price in mind, I unfortunately have to knock it down a star. Hopefully the line roller is the only flaw I observe with this reel..... otherwise it is a solid buy

Great reel and a blast catching fish with the 2500. Indian River Lagoon area, Fl. Turns a battle with a 5lb redfish into a real challenge! I also have a 3000 and a 4000. Mounted on Star Seagis rods. Absolutely great set ups for Inshore fishing The Indian River Lagoon/ Mosquito Lagoon area. Over the last few years, Penn has really stepped their game up. I also have a couple of Penn Slammer III reels too. Great quality reels! Rinse them after each use especially if fishing in saltwater, oil and grease as needed and you'll have a great, dependable reel(s) for many years to come. My humble collection of Penn reels and yes, even some Penn rods. I used to be on Star Rods pro staff so I do have a few Star Rods as well...

I paired the 5000 model with a 9 foot 3/4-3 oz pen battalion II A great lightweight combination for theSurf fisherman that likes to follow the seagulls find the fish wherever they’re Feeding like walking fishing with the set up I walk 5 miles and spend the day Without the sore arm and shoulder great product A bit on the expensive side look for the sales Highly recommend it

I bought 2 of these reels, the 2500 and the 5000. I matched the 2500 with a Fenwick HMG rod and put the 5000 on a Shimano Trevala. First fish on the 2500 was a 26" Red Drum. Absolutely love these reels! They are quiet and strong. The drag system is very smooth and strong. The 2500 is as good as my 4000 Stradic. Highly recommend!

I am a casual Fisherman so most of my equipment is vanilla. So when I bought this reel it was a step up. I was impressed with how smooth the spool is. I highly recommend this reel. It has brought my game up a notch.

Excellent reel! Very smooth. Light enough that I can “step it up a size” and still feel comfortable casting heavy swimbaits for long periods of time. The lighter weight also works well for kayak fishing. Transfers well to a lighter rod for smaller fish.

I have so many reels, specially from Penn. This is by far the quiets of them all. I hooked a large mouth and it was so fun. Made the reel cry. So much fun to use small reels while catching big fish. I will recommend.
