  • Excellent reel but make sure you thumb-it at the very beginning and end of the cast.
Gearbox ratio: 6.2 Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Right Hand Orientation: Right Hand
I've been using 4 of these reels for two seasons now and everything about the reel is just top of class. Smooth as silk. Feels real nice in your hand. It's an absolute pleasure to use. Do you have to thumb it - Yes and no. When you click the spool release button you need to thumb it. Else the weight of your lure will start spinning the spool and it will sometimes bird nest your line. During the cast I don't thumb it and I've never had a problem (I use braid and I keep it at setting 2). However, at the very end of the cast, before your lure hits the water thumb it. If you don't there will be times when the spool will keep spinning after your lure has hit water and you'll bird nest your line. ... show more

  • Amazing Real, but the seller?
Gearbox ratio: 6.2 Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Right Hand Orientation: Right Hand
When your buying a Curado you already know what your getting, an amazing real with DC technology that works flawlessly! However the seller claimed it as new, but the box had already been opened, and poorly repacked. Shimano places a security seal on their boxes for a reason, so the buyer knows it is new from the factory and has never been tampered with. I had to return mine.. security was broken. ... show more

  • Shimano DC Curado
Gearbox ratio: 6.2 Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Right Hand Orientation: Right Hand
I watched my friend use one of these on a recent fishing trip. He easily casted this reel into the wind and never had a single issue with backlash but still got pretty good distance throwing baits. I ordered one which came in yesterday and I rigged it up with some braid and took it out to one of the local ponds in the neighborhood. I said the reel as I normally would any of my reels where the bait would barely fall and began to cast. Nice smooth long cast without any backlash. So then I set it where the bait would fall at a very fast pace. Normally setting any reel like that and chunking it ends up with me and a bird nest. Not this time, the cast for even farther and as soon as that bait touched the water it would stop. Then I moved to the other side of the pond and began to cast it into the wind. It wasn’t a strong wind maybe 5 to 8 but I continue to get a really good distance and as soon as the boat hit the water the spool stopped. So far so good with this one. Taking it on a little trip I’m going on this weekend hopefully I will catch something on the reel and give it a work out. ... show more

  • Awesome reel
Gearbox ratio: 6.2 Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Right Hand Orientation: Right Hand
Got this reel for my brother, we went fishing on a private lake, he was amazed at how easily he could change baits and weights, and quickly change the reel for those different baits. I just have to say I'll be ordering one for me soon. I've always been a CURADO MAN, going back to the old green ones in the 90s. They just keep getting better. I remember getting my first one and thinking it can't get better than this. But folks it does, this reel is that!!! ... show more

  • Awesome reel

You get more than what you pay for. I’m a novice with a baitcaster but with this reel I cast like a pro. It’s almost not fair to those that learned on traditional baitcasters. I also have a lews baitcaster but find myself reaching for this one first.

  • Kayak fisherman’s best friend
Gearbox ratio: 6.2 Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Right Hand Orientation: Right Hand
I have this reel on a 7’ medium heavy Cashion rod. I have been fishing with it all summer in my peddle kayak inshore. I fish in heavy current and in a lot of wind. I use my left hand for the rudder and fish with the right. I can cast a 1/4 once jig in the wind for a mile and be completely accurate. I have complete confidence in it will not backlash. I still use my thumb lightly at the end of the cast. That combo is like an extension of my arm. I have caught some giant reds and flounder this year, drag was smooth. Every other bait caster I own now feel like complete junk. I need more of these in my life! ... show more

  • Cover falls off!
Gearbox ratio: 6.2 Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Right Hand Orientation: Right Hand
I really love this reel! Had to give it a ding in the star rating though. The spool cover comes off so easily! thought that I lost it once, but it dropped at the edge of the pond, so I found it. Used a spot of glue to keep the cover on, really don't think that I should have to do that on a quality reel + for what I paid. On the good side..... Boy, this reel can cast far! and accurate!! I have several Lews. But this Curado is my preferred reel!! ... show more

  • Excellent performance and consistency.
Gearbox ratio: 6.2 Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Right Hand Orientation: Right Hand
The Shimano Curado DC 150HG is the smoothest and fastest reel I've fished with. The casting distance doesn't change much compared to other non-DC quality reels, the main advantage is consistency. I always end up with one or another "bird's nests" (when the line gets tangled up on the spool) every time I go out. In my particular case it typically happens when I start casting into the wind, or it starts raining or it gets dark. Or when I get distracted. The DC does a great job compensating for that. If use it properly your casting will improve and you'll spend more time fishing and your line will last longer. Another great feature of the Curado and other Shimano reels is that it's very easy to clean and lubricate. That also plays a role in performance. I've had it for a few weeks so I can't say much about reliability but knowing Shimano for many decades I'm positive that it will not be an issue. ... show more
