  • Love my Curado… But…
Size: Gear Ratio: 7.4:1 | Size: 150 Left
The Shimano Curado DC is an excellent reel that solves a specific problem: backlashes in bad conditions. It is not magic. It will not make you a pro overnight, and if you already have an "educated thumb," you might find the price premium hard to justify. However, for skipping docks, throwing light lures into the wind, or just having an stress-free day on the water, it is arguably the best tool on the market. The Good (Pros) • The "Wind Cheat Code": This is the #1 reason to buy this reel. You can throw a spinnerbait directly into a 20mph headwind with almost zero thumb feathering, and it just... works. • Skipping Made Easy: Skipping a jig under a dock is one of the hardest casts to master. The DC system reacts instantly to the sudden deceleration when the bait hits the water, drastically reducing the "blowups" that usually happen when you mess up a skip. • Versatility: The I-DC4 brake dial has 4 simple settings: 1. Max Distance (least braking) 2. Braid / General Purpose 3. Fluorocarbon / Stiffer line 4. Skipping / Max Control (heavy braking) Most people set it to 2 or 3 and never touch it again. • Build Quality: It’s a Curado. It uses the "Hagane" body (Shimano's fancy word for rigid metal), so it feels solid in the hand with zero flex. The MicroModule gears are buttery smooth when new. The Bad (Cons) • The Price Tag: You are paying a ~$70-$80 premium just for the computer chip. A standard Curado K performs mechanically very similarly for much less cash. • The Sound: Every time you cast, the reel makes a distinct whiiiiine sound (like a tiny electric car). • Some people love it: "It sounds futuristic." • Some people hate it: "It’s annoying and scares the fish (probably not, but it scares me)." • Weight & Size: The 150 DC is slightly heavier and bulkier than the standard Curado MGL 150 because the side plate has to house the computer unit. It’s not a brick, but it’s not the most compact reel in its class. • DIY Maintenance is Risky: If you are the type to take your reels apart for deep cleaning, be warned. The DC unit is a sealed module. If you mess with the screws on the side plate incorrectly or strip them (common issue), you can brick the braking system. • Corrosion Point: If used in saltwater, the area between the pinion gear and clutch base is a known corrosion trap if not rinsed thoroughly. Final Verdict The Shimano Curado DC is a luxury, not a necessity. But it is a luxury that actually delivers on its promise. It makes fishing easier and less frustrating, which usually means you keep your lure in the water longer—and that's how you catch more fish. ... show more

  • You need this bait caster on your arsenal
Size: Gear Ratio: 6.2:1 | Size: 150 Left
What a great bait caster specially on windy conditions very smooth and efficient. It will get the work done when it comes to throwing smaller and lighter lures 10/10

  • Loving this reel so far
Size: Gear Ratio: 7.4:1 | Size: 150 Right
This is my first baitcaster reel, ive been fishing for over a decade on and off and it wasn’t until recently that i got into freshwater fishing and saw how fun was going after bass. This reel is excellent if you are just getting started thanks to its braking system dc. You will get backlashes here and then its part of having a baitcaster but it greatly improves the experience against a baitcaster without dc. For me after the first trip out i got used to it pretty good and now I have it in my car ready to take it out every day when possible. I highly recommend this reel and will definitely keep adding more high end ones when budget allows. ... show more

  • Phenomenal technology and amazing dependability
Size: Gear Ratio: 7.4:1 | Size: 150 Left
Great product and helps me cast quite well. Another fantastic Japanese designed item. Even my teenage sons love using these things. They prefer them over anything else. I’ve taken these things to Brazil to Northern Canada and they’ve never quit. They never break and they always come through.

  • Great Reel

I bought this for myself when I purchased a $275 Shimano for my son. I can't tell a difference. Very well made. Very smooth. Casts and pitches beautifully.

  • Just Do It...It's Awesome
Size: Gear Ratio: 7.4:1 | Size: 150 Left
Had my eye on this for a while, and finally bit the bullet and bought the 151 DCHG, (left crank, 7:4.1). Worked it out for the first time kayak fishing yesterday on a good sized pond. The reel is paired with the St. Croix Mojo Bass Yak Rod (7 ft medium/fast). And spooled with Sufix Advanced Mono 14 lb test green. This reel is awesome! But it's not magic. Thumb management is still needed at times, but it's minimal. And no adjustments are needed for different sized baits which is huge. I was effortlessly going between 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8 ounce baits while testing this reel out. I could throw everything on the "2" setting, the spool knob was never touched. I did go to the "3" setting a couple times with the heavier baits. Furthermore this reel, with the right rod, will flat out fling some lures further than you thought possible. Didn't do any flipping to speak of, but I suspect thumb management would still be critical there. Max drag is 11 pounds, so it may not be at its best with braided line in heavy cover. Or hauling in say large stripers when they run up river. But it covers all the other bases as far as most bass fishing is concerned If you are on the fence about this reel, forget about it...and just do it. Experienced casters will LUV it. Beginners will still have a learning curve, but a much smaller one than normal. Again...you can still have backlashes. But far fewer than traditional braking systems. And no adjustments required when changing lures/baits...HUGE! Don't forget...you can throw the long bomb too. ... show more

  • Curado DC is good for now...
Size: Gear Ratio: 8.5:1 | Size: 150 Left
It kinda an over hype reel when it first came out. It has the same features as the Curado K & just an additional DC concept upgrade, replacing the infinity and outer brake. The goods thing about it cast a bit further & better in winding condition than an conventional reel. Really, it just help you reducing thumbing and less backlashes. Not the best but great quality for its price. ... show more
