Very high quality reel. Plus it came with a spare spool and reel cover. I paired it with a 6' 10" H&H custom rod for speckled trout, red fish and flounder fishing. Have not had it down to the coast yet so have also been using that set up to bottom bounce for sauger. No sauger yet but have caught a five pound range freshwater drum on it. Drag is smooth. Only downside is I fell down while walking on rocks while fishing below a dam and I put a beauty mark on the edge of the spool and a scuffed the black paint (anodizing?) on the bail. Doesn't effect function but I was also a little surprised how easily it scratched. ... show more

This is my first Penn reel, I have always had Shimano's The Penn Battle reel does not have some of the features that my equivalent Shimano of the same size has but it is really heavy duty and I think will perform quite well if I am able to hook onto some bigger fish with it.
