I got the brown, and I'm quite pleased with the color as it's quite dark, almost like a brown-black. I'm a bit worried that the paint is thin and will chip off, so handle with care. Inside it's painted white for light reflection, and it sends out a surprisingly wide beam with the regular-height LED bulb I put in it, much wider than the spotlight I was expecting. That said, if it's rotated so my eyes look directly into the white area, it's pretty blinding. Luckily I put it in a corner facing a bookshelf / over my shoulder onto my desk so it's not an issue. It comes with the wire running from the head down through the many pole sections and out the base, making assembly a bit awkward, especially trying to avoid banging the pieces into each other. You have to start on one end, cut the plastic wrap off the next section, and screw it together, building it along the floor in a straight line before standing it up. It was packaged decently tho, no dings or chips out of the box. Once assembled the whole light feels solid, no wobble from the poles, only a little from the stand but could be my floor is uneven. The base is heavy enough that it feels stable enough to move around and let go without worry it will tip over. The head swivels side to side a full 360 deg, and can tilt up/down about 60 deg, although it can't point perfectly straight down (see pics). I wish there was a power switch on the light head and not a foot switch down on the power cable. Depending where you put it and how you wire it, the foot switch is much less versatile and can be annoying to reach. I had to wrap the power cable around the pole several times so it laid flat on top of the base, as there was no room to have the switch accessible a foot away from the stand. All my other floor lamps have switches on the head, and it is by far my preference. I don't know why, but the brown color is currently $5 more than the silver and white, and $10 more than the black color. I think at $40 the brown lamp is a bit overpriced but $30-35 seem more reasonable for it. Knocking off a star for the odd price differences, the foot switch, not pointing straight down and the funky assembly which might cause paint chipping. ... show more

    • This Is One Nice Lamp!

Pros: -The gold isn't gaudy and actually looks quite nice. -Push button on/off switch sits on the floor and you can step on it to turn it on/off. -Head can swivel almost 360º so you can have it aim left, right, up, or down. -Assembly was quick and easy. Cons: -Bases for these lamps usually have the power cord routed through the base, this one does not and the cord just lays on it. (You think you're supposed to route it through there somehow but you actually don't.) Could be unsightly for some, really not much of a bother in general, though. -Price, without coupon, is a tad high. (Right now, it's 30% off bringing it closer to $22ish, which at that price I absolutely can recommend it.) Final Thoughts: It's sturdy, it's kind of pretty, it's easy to assemble, and the head is adjustable. Granted, you can get Torchiere Lamps, locally, for half the price at around $11ish, but this step-activated button is pretty doggone nice and it's delivered right to your door. This Bauhaus-inspired lamp is just what I needed for a dark corner in my den. The rich dark brown finish is flawless and resembles statuary bronze. The double-cone lamp head is simple in line and elegantly understated. The lamp arrived very well-protected with all parts ensconced in a massive block of styrofoam and with individual elements wrapped in plastic tear-away bags. The four pole sections screw together easily and attach similarly to the top curved section and the weighted base. The seams between these sections are virtually invisible, and the assembled pole is as straight as an arrow. The base is quite heavy and ensures that the lamp is securely in place and not likely to tip. I'm not a big fan of foot switches and knew that one would be unusable for where I had selected the lamp to be. I have, instead, left the lamp switch on - but with a remote-operated LED light bulb that allows me to turn it on from my chair. I couldn't be happier with this beautiful lamp and, I believe, the price ($39.99 at this writing) is a bargain. ... show more
