I get massages for medical purposes. My masseuse went on holiday, and I was in a bit of a bind. Enter this do-hicky. I used it in all of my problem areas last night. It hurt JUST LIKE my masseuse. The amount of pressure it can handle (as far as pressing down on it with a back or leg or other part) is impressive. I haven't had an issue with it stopping because of the pressure yet - and I gave it some pretty decent test scenarios. Not sure I would try standing on it, though. ;-) The next day, my body hurts - JUST LIKE my masseuse makes me feel. But my problem areas are gone. Maybe it's not for you. But for this price, if you have to pay for a masseuse on a regular basis and want a POSSIBLE cheaper alternative, isn't it worth at least a try? First off, I have never used one of these "kneading", Shiatsu massagers before, so my review isn't really comparing this to others on the market. Effectiveness: I love it. I bought it to deal with lower back pain, and have been using it about 4 hours a day, for almost a week. The pain is going away slowly, due to my combo of chiropractor, ibuprofen, stretching, changing position every 20 minutes and this massager. So while I can't isolate its impact on my recovery, it feels wonderful while I'm using it, and other areas that are habitually tight, are feeling much looser. I imagine that I will probably use this thing daily until it wears out. Usability: Being a usability engineer, I can't review a product without assessing usability. The form factor is decent. I have used it all up and down my spine from my head to my butt, and can usually find a position that doesn't hit my vertebra. I would prefer a bigger gap down the middle so it would be easier to position so that it doesn't hit bone. I also have been unable to get comfortable with it in a sitting position on the couch. I've been using it almost exclusively lying down (on said couch), which works great. It must be plugged in, which some will see as a negative, but I have so many devices that are either never charged when I need them, lose charge over time or don't generate enough power to do their job, that I purposely avoided a battery-operated device. The cord gets in the way a bit, but it's not a problem. The buttons are a usability train wreck. One controls power and heat, and the other controls speed. They are not on the cord, but on a corner of the device, so are very difficult to reach while using the massager. And they are the same size, shape and color, so whether you are feeling around for them or looking directly at them, it's hard to know which is which. The rubberized labels are virtually indistinguishable from one another. Also, the power button turns on massage and heat with the first press, changes the direction of the massage with the 2nd press and turns off heat with the 3rd. Since it changes directions every few minutes anyway, there is no value in the 2nd press, and since I like it without heat (it's summer right now), it's always 3 presses for me to turn it on. Summary: It is cheaper than many others I saw on Amazon, and my guess is that most of them are almost identical in function. I think it feels great, and am pleased with my purchase. There are a few usability issues that are not deal-breakers to me. Even if it lasts only 6 months at the frequency I intend to use it, I would probably just buy the same one again. ... show more

By far this is one of my favorite things I have ever ordered, definitely didn't disappoint; it is great!; I have a job that I stand all day, walking lifting items; I spend my spare time in the gym or doing pilates/hot yoga; I also need to drive a good distance daily; this item is a really great investment; the massage is strong the heat just adds to the overall experience; plus it's universal it can be placed wherever you need: I can use it in my favorite chair or in bed while watching TV placed on my pillow, lower back; has helped with sore back issues; headaches; a real smart choice; definitely glad that I made this investment for myself; I wish I could give as gifts to the people on my shopping list for Christmas; it will be a useful idea to remember when birthdays come around. I have no problems with the build quality on this Shiatsu rotating knob massager. I have only owned it for a short time, so I'll need to use it a bit longer to determine its overall durability and longevity. I've already used it for a deep kneading tissue massage and so far it works as well as one could hope for this purpose. With that said, its features could be improved. What you get in the box is: Shiatsu Massager Unit (wrapped in plastic) Brick AC to DC Adapter (wrapped in plastic) Car plug adapter Instruction Manual Silica Gel Packet Features: On and off switch has 4 press positions Press 1 = Heat + Rotation (fastest speed) Press 2 = Heat + Opposite Rotation (fastest speed) Press 3 = Rotation (fastest speed) + No Heat Press 4 = Off Speed Switch Press 1 = Middle speed Press 2 = Slowest speed Press 3 = Fastest speed Unit always starts off using fastest speed rotation. Unit does not offer vibration, only Shiatsu kneading rotation. Device does periodically switch directions in rotation automatically. Has 15 minute auto-off timer. Positives: Priced well. Motor is definitely strong enough to rotate even under moderate pressure. Small size and pillow like body makes it comfortable to use. Works well out of the box. Negatives: Stretchy Straps are too short and not stretchy enough to go around a large chair back. Needs extension. Cannot enable heat without rotation for heated spot pressure. This feature would be helpful. Heat is minimal, could be warmer. Zippered covering seems impossible to take off and wash. A washable covering would be more helpful. Purchase Rationale I purchased this Shiatsu massager because of its reasonably high star rating (near 4.5) with a high volume of reviews. Most negative reviews that popped up immediately for me seemed to be user error with the product. So far, I've have no major complaints with this massager. Again, though, only time will tell if it can hold up to regular use. Overall For the price, it seems well built and works as intended. For my personal purposes, it works great for what I was wanting. I'd recommend wearing clothing or having a dry towel between your skin and the massager. Since the mesh covering the rotating knobs is a bit rough, it could cause friction blistering if used directly against the skin for long periods. Hence, the recommendation for wearing softer clothing or a dry towel to cover the skin during the massage. The mesh and covering seems difficult to clean and also doesn't seem to be easily removable for washing. Though it does appear to have a zipper, the zipper pull is shoved deep under a tight flap of cloth, making it difficult to gain access. I'm assuming this intentional inaccessibility to the zipper means that attempting to zip the cover open for removal could mean you can't put it back on easily or at all. I'm not going to try based on the design. If the cloth covering gets dirty, you'll need to spot clean it. I suppose you could make a small pillowcase and shove it over the unit, which could work the same as wearing clothing. Overall, I think this massager is worth the price. I've reduced it to 4 stars only because of the deficiencies mentioned above. ... show more
