  • D R E A M Printer!! BYE HP, CANON & BROTHER!
Works great, simple, straightforward design. Sturdy. Easy to unbox & set up. Before setting up CD WiFi, ensure printer is ON (bc it will do Energy Saving on its own and turn off). Also, when unpacking, be sure not to touch the little brown cork paper pick-up wheel even once for half a second or it will get oily and won’t be able to pick up paper. Huge paper holder tray! A Message to Canon, HP & Brother: y’all have been a monopoly and gotten waaaay too big fer yer britches!! All ur printers and Customer Service personnel suck. HP now thinks it can DICTATE that you will order their ink CONSTANTLY and won’t let u take advantage of cartridge refilling services like at Costco. Canon’s PDF maker and ADF are absolutely worthless, BUT they give u a bunch of unnecessary software that slows everything else down. These Big Three printer companys’ CEOs are sitting around in the Bahamas with their mistresses while numbskulls run their businesses and products into the ground. They couldn’t care any LESS about their customers being bilked and spending half their lives on the phone with Customer Service trying to make their ever-more-cheaply made products perform basic functions. UPDATE: February 2020 - STILL LOVE THIS PRINTER. If it ever loses its WiFi scanner connection (like after a power outage), you may get a popup message in Chinese on your computer screen (do not panic), plug the printer into your computer via the USB cord and simply goto the website and download the latest printer driver (maybe even save that to your desktop for future quick access). After the driver is installed, you can remove the USB cord. One time my print jobs were getting hung up, so I had to go into Control Panel under Devices and re-choose this printer, like it lost the right printer selection. They used to have 1 Year Tech Help, but now it’s only 90 days. I highly recommend getting the Extra Warranty. ... show more

  • Laser vs. Cartridge Printing - Laser Wins - More Economical
I have always had HP printers, I got tired of the cartridge running out at critical times of research, presentation, or study, and purchased this unit in mid-May 2019. I waited to review this product in order to present a more critical/qualified review. I set this up myself on the first day I used it. Despite deleting my HP printer from my system, my system continued to download HP Updates thereby destabilizing my printer; Removing HP info seemed to likewise cause some problems. Having never utilized an at-home laser printer I had a learning curve, however I have been able to solve all quirky problems myself, i.e. the destabilization of my printer. I like the printer because of the way it is stacked, it fits nicely behind my desktop computer, and it is easy to learn. I would rate it an 8 out of 10 because of the HP destabilization updates, and not a "10" because everything can be improved. If I had to purchase again, I would purchase it with color. I thought color would further complicate the unit and the maintenance, however this is a great product, and the color printer probably would have worked just as well. I did not like tech support, they just gave me a website to go to, and I figured it out myself, however product support is available and listed by Amazon after purchase, which I did not notice, therefore did not utilize. I suspected direct tech help would have cost money, however Amazon had conveniently listed apparent free tech support as an option, available at the point of sale. The non-Amazon tech support I called was not available on weekends. Perhaps non-Amazon directed/negotiated tech support should be free at least for the first 30-60 days if you want others to feel confident that help is available without additional cost. I still like the product, if you cannot set it up yourself you might not like it as much. I suspect if I had used Amazon-directed tech support, I would not have had destabilization problems. I still like this printer, there are more pros than cons by far, and highly recommend it to anyone. ... show more

  • Works great on Linux Mint 19.1.
I'm using this printer with Linux Mint 19.1. The printer manual and FAQ pages can be found online (the series, not the individual model), and these are very helpful for using it. So far, I've been able to print a high quality PDF (VERY quickly!) and scan multiple documents at high quality into a single PDF. Setup was pretty easy: just remove a bunch of blue tape and 2 orange cardboard pieces and 2 "flags", which the paper instructions guide you through, take out the ink cartridge (it comes inside the printer), shake it up, pull out a long plastic "tab", put the ink cartridge back in, add paper, hook it up, etc. It's pretty easy. I *love* the design of the printer from an engineering perspective: it's very simple to use, hard to break, intuitive to move pieces around with your hands, etc. It feels sturdy. By default, the printer hosts a WIFI hotspot, which you can login to using password 12345678. You can then access the printer like you would a router via. your browser at IP: 192 168 223 1 (with periods - not allowed posting URL's), once connected, and change settings (like WIFI password) there. I disabled this hotspot and am just using the USB. I installed the driver from their website (again, not allowed posting URL's...). You just extract the files, run the install shell script, and you're done, it's very fast. To set up the printer, go to Start->Administration->Printers, click Add, and then select the Pantum printer in the list. If you connect via. USB or WIFI, you'll see it listed (for WIFI it will be under Network Printer). Then it will "search" for your driver and if you already have it installed via. the script above, it will automatically work. Now you can print just like normal, select Pantum from the list, etc. You can configure the settings and default settings and such from this Printers app by changing its Properties. To scan, use the Start->Graphics->Simple Scan app. This gives you various options of how you want to scan files, including scanning multiple sides and then combining them into a PDF later. The little button panel could definitely use some work, it's not very straightforward to use. Fortunately you don't really need to for anything, as I've discovered (I just do everything from my PC). I would recommend just not touching it lol, you'll be happier. ... show more
