I have been a loyal user of the Braun series 7 for a long time (I have had two of them since 2011). I really loved them, but as my second shaver began to deteriorate, I decided to give the Panasonic ARC5 model a try. I must say, I am quite impressed with it so far! Here are my thoughts on the shaver: Pros: - The build quality is excellent. - The battery life is impressive. - Despite having a larger head than the Braun, the shaver remains comfortable to use and covers a bit more area at once. - I appreciate how the blade head system is constructed. Unlike the Braun, where everything is in the head, with the Panasonic, you can easily remove every single element: the two blades, the foil, and the casing that holds the foil. This makes it easier to deep clean and maintain. Additionally, since the heads are more expensive than the Braun ones, you probably won't have to change them as often as you have a way of maintaining them more efficiently, thus getting the head to last longer, which is probably the reason why they recommend to change the head once every 2 years. - The smart beard density sensors work as advertised, which is great for sensitive skin. - The flexible pivoting head is excellent, particularly when passing over my chin and neck. I also like that you can lock it when passing under the nose. - The cleaning station is smaller than the Braun's, making it more convenient for those with limited space. - Overall, the result was great. After shaving, my skin felt smoother compared to my old Braun Series 7. Cons: - It's a minor issue, but worth noting: Unlike the Braun, the cleaning station on the Panasonic doesn't notify you when it's time to clean it. With the Braun, you get three notifications: quick cleaning (after one use), longer cleaning (after two uses), and deep cleaning (if you haven't cleaned it after three sessions or more). It's helpful to know how dirty the shaver is so you can decide when to clean it. With the Panasonic, you can use it without ever cleaning it. Each time you put it in the cleaning station, there are no notifications or reminders. You only have the option to clean, dry, or clean & dry. The only notification you'll receive is when the level of your cleaning solution is low, which is similar to the Braun. So far, I haven't encountered any other issues, so I highly recommend it!     • Provides Outstandingly Close Shaves
Style: LV67 Electric Shaver
I have used a traditional safety razor for the last 50 years (most recently, my choice was a Merkur Safety Razor and Astra blades). I have only tried electric razors twice in my life (about 30 years ago) and returned both as they provided terrible shave quality. Recently, I became tired of the wet shave routine and its myriad annoyances (prep, clean-up, nicks, etc.) and decided to try an electric shaver again. Like most, my primary concern is getting the closest shave possible. After reading many reviews of many electrics, I decided on the Arc 5. Most reviewers claim the Arc 5 shaves nearly as close as a blade. I disagree; it shaves every bit as close as my bladed razor but does so with none of the problems of blades. Frankly, I was shocked at just how closely the Arc 5 shaves--especially my toughest beard areas (chin, neck, and upper lip). In addition, the Arc 5 shaves comfortably with virtually no irritation whatsoever. Cleaning the razor takes a matter of seconds--a drop of soap on the blades, run it for a few seconds, and rinse it under the tap. Build quality appears to be excellent. I have been using it for two weeks and the charge indicator reads 60%, so battery life is also excellent. The battery also charges very, very quickly. While the shaver is waterproof and can be used with a shaving cream, I have not tested its wet-shave capabilities and have no intention of doing so. Its dry-shave closeness is so fine that I see nothing to be gained by using it to do a wet shave. I'm a convert and I cannot see myself ever returning to a blade of any kind after using this electric razor. Shaving is never going to be a pleasure, but this may be as close as it's ever going to get. Highly recommended. UPDATE: I have been using the Arc 5 for over two months now, and I am pleased to report that it continues to impress. While I generally shave every day, I decided to test the Arc 5’s performance on a three-day beard. It had absolutely no difficulty with the challenge and provided a quick and exceptionally close shave with zero pulling or irritation. The shaver's embedded chip actually senses when it encounters the thicker beard areas of your face and adjusts the speed of its blades accordingly--you can hear the motor speed up the instant the blades encounter your toughest areas--a very cool feature that works as advertised. In addition, the shaver head pivots to keep itself in constant contact with your face which I am sure results in a faster, smoother shave. Lastly, Panasonic says it may take a few weeks for your face to adjust to an electric shaver, but I experienced no such adjustment period--I got outstandingly close and comfortable shaves from the very first day of use.
