Purchased this 4K UHD player to replace my older Sony Blu Ray player which was in my bedroom which broke a few days ago. A disc got stuck in the player and it would not eject from the player no matter what I tried. Anyway, it was time for an upgrade to 4K. This player is nice. It’s pretty bare bones and doesn’t have some of the bells & whistles more pricey players have such as Dolby Vision support, Built in WiFi and more than 1 HDMI output. However, it still gets the job done. The picture is crisp/sharp and the HDR brings out the colors & Blacks nicely. Blu Ray’s and DVD’s play great as well. If you want to start collecting 4K UHD Blu Ray movies and don’t want to pay a small fortune for a more expensive player then this is the player for you. Like other reviewers are stating , the only thing I wish was better is the remote. It’s really small and It’s not backlit and the function buttons are really small making it hard to see what you’re selecting. Until you get used to where the buttons are situated you will definitely need some light to see what you’re selecting. But for the price point this is a small problem. As far as longevity is concerned, that remains to be seen? I have another Panasonic 4K player in my home theater for about a year now and it’s been problem free so far. Growing up I never had a blue ray player and then before we had one my family moved to streaming services. I hate not owning anything even digital copies of movies I have purchased for full price. When you plug this in and put in any dvd, especially a blue ray dvd the quality is immediately noticeable. My control movie (the Lorax, 2012) looks amazing. The quality is far far superior than when streaming it from any platform, and yes I pulled up the movie on Disney plus as a comparison.     • Not too bad but bare bones for sure.
They have cut every corner to make this cheep. No read out of any kind. Reminds me of the cheep DVD players of the past in size and lack of read out. Remote is even in the cheep seats. Very small. The auto network set up has not worked for me so far. So the Firmware update will have to wait. If I do it at all. It looks fine on picture side of things. The 4K HDR is a very nice jump indeed. I’m a loyal to the brand kind of person. I have an older BR player from these guys. I has served me well and has older RCA inputs Un like this unit it is smart with apps and video tweaks that are first rate. Not this one. On a side note. My old player was working just fine but lack 4K so I grabbed this one. A funny thing on the old one. I did the update and several of my old movies will not load ad read all the sudden. Almost as if they did something to inspire us to upgrade into the new marked by slowly making older units act stupid over night. Seams like this marketing trick has caught on in several brands. Lol I’m absolutely sure nothing was wrong with my disc. Just played them before the update. Now they no workie in old unit. Work fine in the new one though. Hummmm! Since this new unit truly does not need internet to run as it has literally zero smart features. I refuse to have a smart bomb loaded in it by some update. If you are looking for a bare bones player.     • Wow! Great bang for buck little 4k player
This 4K UHD player was exactly what I was looking for. I have a modest Blu Ray / UHD collection of my favorite movies / shows with high replay value, and where streaming just doesnt cut it (either b/c of quality or it just isnt readily available - think Lord of The Rings, Game of Thrones, John Wick, Interstellar, etc). My home theater setup - even more modest. A budget 4K 65" TCL TV with built-in sound bar. At my level / budget, it just doesn't make sense to buy one of the fancier players that range anywhere from $250-$1000 that have more bells and whistles. Is this player perfect? Far from it. The UI looks like it is from the mid-00s, the remote is small (yet functional enough), the player itself does have a light/flimsy feel to it, and the lack of HDMI cable is a minor inconvenience but enough to make you say, "really?". BUT! The picture and audio this baby produces is GREAT!!! Even in my setup and use case, the difference is truly night and day from what my old Blu Ray player or Xbox could produce. It feels like Panasonic cut every corner imaginable with these players EXCEPT with how it actually plays, and that's really all I needed at the end of the day. I cant say Im super confident this player will last as long as other products of the past from Panasonic, but that seems to be the case everywhere today in consumer electronics, and particularly with these 4K players (even from other brands and higher quality models).     • Will it work today? - Does not inspire confidence
I typically like Panasonic products, but this Blu Ray Player does not inspire confidence. The Blu Ray tray mechanism sounds crudely mechanical. Like it will be lucky to last a year. Not the sound of quality. And it sounds even worse after using only four or five times. The remote is minuscule, about the quality of a child's party favor toy and lacks many niceties I'm accustomed to, like control for other devices (so you will need to juggle two remotes) and temporary illumination. No LED to let you know if it's working. I guess I can only blame myself for not purchasing a more premium model. Disposable. I'll be shopping for something better. Update 1: I've probably used this player a dozen times and the remote's Open/Close tray button seems to be failing already as other purchasers have noted. Lowering rating to 2 stars. Update 2: As predicted, the tray mechanism is failing at 6 months and very limited use. It doesn't open reliably using either the remove open button or the open button (5) on top of the player. Lowering to 1 star. Just junk. Update 3: On the tray mechanism, it will immediately open after start up. However, apparently there is a really long delay for the tray be responsive to a close command. Gee this is the 21st century. What's causing this lag time? What start up demanding start procedures would cause the tray closure to be unresponsive for quite a lengthy time? Now for the new complaint. Switching Closed Caption (CC) languages should be simple. With most players you simply and intuitively press the CC button on the remote to cycle through the available language options. But not the Panasonic player. It has the most convoluted, conditional, multi-step process. First, you have to press the CC button to activate the CC window. Guess what? There are no language options in the CC window. Second, you have to press the OPTIONS button, the CC window closes and a cluttered OPTIONS window appears. I'll emphasize that you can't directly access the OPTION window. Procedurally, you have to activate the CC window and only then can you access the OPTIONS window. Here you can get to a Subtitles menu, lacking any other helpful descriptions. Third, despite being being an on screen menu, you can only see one language option at a time and you must cycle through the language options one at a time, the same way you would on any slightly more advanced Blu Ray player remote. This is just a huge and needless step backwards in interface design. ... show more

We bought this unit because it does not require wifi access. We've had it for several months and it's doing exactly what any Blu-ray player should do: it plays the films without issues and doesn't send our data back to the manufacturer! Amazing.
