    • Ice Cream Freezes to the Scoop
OXO products are my go-to preference for kitchen utensils. I bought the latest OXO ice cream scoop to replace the previous model that I had used for years (I loved it but the rubber handle finally wore out). I was surprised at how much the new one weighed. It's stainless steel vs the older scoop's aluminum. That's not a big disadvantage, though. The biggest problem with the new OXO scoop is that it quickly chills in use. The first scoop of ice cream handily falls from the scoop into the serving bowl. The second scoop begins to freeze to the stainless steel and requires a couple of shakes to unload. After that, the ice cream must be dug out of the scoop (with a finger) in ugly chunks. The old aluminum scoop didn't behave this way. I now need to keep a bowl of hot water nearby to heat up the scoop, but that slows me down and is something else to clean up. Finally, the OXO stainless steel scoop has a blunt spade tip with a fairly deep body. It's harder to clean and the blunt tip defeats my attempts to lick it clean after scooping (when nobody's looking). The old model I replaced had a more pointed tip than this one and worked better. ... show more

My family loves this ice cream scoop. We also have the spade version. The handle is comfortable to use, and the scooping part is stainless steel with no shiny coating to flake off over time. This is easy to clean by hand or in the dishwasher, and the price is very reasonable.

I needed an ice cream scoop, seemingly a mundane thing. Surprisingly, there's an entire sea of choices and price ranges for something someone would consider such a basic household staple. I landed in this OXO scoop based on reviews from other websites. I have other OXO kitchen utensils and cookware, I like the brand. So I was pleased to see this was one of the more highly rated. I got the one that is just a scoop, not the one with the thumb press lever. It's just a nice, simple ice cream scoop, that is the perfect size. I didn't want something too short, and I wanted one with a good grip. Bonus that it's dishwasher safe, even though I hand wash it.
