I have used a large spoon to dig out ice cream for most of my life. Sometimes if the ice cream is really hard it was difficult to get a good scoop. I have also bent several spoons using this method. Then a friend brough a scoop like this one to use for a birthday party. I was so surprised at how easy it was to get nice scoops out and into the serving dish. OXO has reduced the quality of the scoop - the handle is light weight and looks like cheap plastic. Without a heavy handle, you have to exert a lot more force. It works but am disappointed.
