Size: One Size Style: Outdoor Rapid Brewer and Case
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Fits in a backpack, brews coffee perfectly when combined with a fine ground coffee, easy to use and clean, and is inexpensive. I use this at the office every single day to get a wonderful semi-espresso to make my morning americano, latte, or occasionall shakerato. Paired with a decent hand grinder you can get some really good coffee out of this. Cold brew is pretty decent as well. I add an aeropress paper filter under the grounds to get a smoother brew. A few tips that work for me: 1. After adding the water, give the pump a half-press to better pre-infuse the grounds 2. Only pre-infuse for 1-1.5 minutes for fine ground med/dark roast 3. Wet the filter with hot water after putting into the basket, then pump the excess water out before adding the grounds. 4. Use near espresso fine grind so the water doesn't drain through before you start pumping. 5. Tamp the grounds well with a decent amount of pressure. That's it. I love this coffee maker. Purchased 2 days ago during the Prime event (which was fun this year) and still improving my method but I am sold on my second try. I am the only hot coffee drinker in my household (caffeine fiend college-aged son conceded recently coffee is good but only cold?) so I don't use coffee making machines. I also don't use coffee pod type brewers to avoid piling up plastic waste. I do French press and pour over in that order of preference for taste. The OXO press, is now my favorite coffee making method for two reasons: taste, ease of use and cleanup. I also think it's kind of fun pumping the water through thr press as it brews :-) I made the mistake of using less grounds than my French press the first time and the result was watery coffee. I was worried this OXO was a dud. Oh and I also used an Aeropress compatible filter. Several months ago, I purchased and returned an Aeropress. The water went straight through the press. On my second try, I used an equal amount of grounds as for a French press cup. I didn't use a filter this time (just to see the difference) and made an extra effort to tamp down the grounds to avoid water leaking through prematurely. So far, my observation is a little always does. Maybe it's my technique, but for now I am compensating for that by adding a little more hot water for a second mini-press so enough flavor comes through. The result was deliciously smooth coffee that i can't remember coming out of my kitchen in a long time. This made me think of how much silty coffee I must have been drinking from the French Press all this time. When I finish a coffee of the OXO brewed coffee, there isn't a bunch of coffee silt at the bottom. Cleanup is simple. The only parts that get coffee dirty is the carafe at the bottom and the filter piece. The main press piece only touches hot water. The coffee tamp can be wiped clean. I don't bother washing those parts. The only negative compared to the French press method is the coffee temperature is not as hot. I like mine burning hot because I take a while to finish my cup. This is not a huge issue though as the merits of the OXO press far far outweigh. I can't wait to try the cold brew. Highly recommended! ... show more
