    • The Sweet Spot for Late-2013 Mac Pro Memory Upgrades
Size: 64GB Style: 4 x 16GB
Priced the same here as on OWC website, this Memory size is the sweet spot for upgrading your Late-2013 Mac Pro Memory. If you understand the difference between Registered and Unregistered ECC Memory, the lower-capacity Apple Memory is unregistered and performs slightly faster due to the lack of Register overhead. But Unregistered ends up with more overhead as Memory size grows to multiple channels. So, I upgraded my Late-2013 Mac Pro from the standard 16GB (4x4GB UDIMM) to the OWC 64GB (4x16GB RDIMM) after two months of ownership. The upgrade is simple for most people, but if you have concerns about ever opening your computer, I am certain you can find a friend to do this for you. This is a beginner-level upgrade and takes just a few minutes. One good example of the difference was observed with VMWare Fusion, the virtual machine I use to run the occasional Windows 10 application. With the added real Memory I was able to increase the virtual machine memory from 8GB to 16GB. It is uncertain which mattered more, but with the new Memory the Windows 10 virtual machine changed from sluggish to snappy immediately. Is this upgrad worth US$500? Why not go to 128GB? First, OWC is a trustworthy supplier that provides solid products with decent warranty terms, including lifetime warranty on this Memory. Others do the same at lower prices, so it's up to you to compare offerings and suppliers. I view 64GB as the "sweet spot" because it is cheaper per GB than larger capacities and it is faster Memory. See the specifications on the configurations that include 32GB RDIMMs and you might be running as slow as 800MHz with the larger RDIMM. Read the specifications. If you already configured your system with an SSD and a decent CPU, this is probably your best possible upgrade. One caution: OWC will not allow "rebate" trade-in if your stock Apple memory when you buy it from them through Amazon. ... show more

The seller I bought these from had a description stating "compatible" with MAC, which inferred to me that they could be used in either PC or MAC (They look nearly identical to the ones in my PC). However, although they fit in my PC fine, they DO NOT function in PC, they are only made for MAC. I was able to get them returned and refunded with no problems. ... show more
