I got this for emergency use during power outages. I have several solar power generators that I keep charged up and standing by. In the event of a power disruption our kitchen range will obviously not work (we could theoretically buy a generator capable of putting out 240 volts, pull out the range and connect that, but that's an impractical approach for us) so we'd like to have an alternative for light cooking, heating food, boiling water, etc. Upon delivery of this I opened the box and removed it, then I connected it to one of my solar generators, put a small pot of cold water on the heating plate, powered the outlet to which it was connected, and watched that pot (I know - but it eventually DID boil!) It took roughly the same amount of time to reach boiling as I would expect from our range top. It heated quickly, and the temperature control seems to function as intended. Cleanup was simple. Just keep in mind that the housing of this unit gets quite hot during use, and that it takes some time to cool after powering off the unit. Measured 1 quart of water in a 1.5 quart hard-anodized aluminum pot. Basic cookware. Measured 18.5 degrees Celsius at the beginning of the test. Turned the cooktop plate to MAX and timed 10 minutes for it to reach 94 degrees Celsius. The thing automatically shut off at 94. In comparison, another popular 1300 watt cast-iron hotplate took 15 minutes to reach from 19 to 94 degrees Celsius. It stayed on until it reach 101. ... show more

For the money this is a great little burner. It’s basic but was able to cook our meals on it, for the few weeks while my cooktop that failed was getting replaced. And it got us through it for cheap. Don’t expect miracles of heating power or super accurate controls, but if I needed to fry up and some eggs and bacon, or boil some water for tea. It got the job done.
