The media could not be loaded. I placed it on a silicone trivet. As my first test, I boiled one quart of water in a covered pan (see picture). It took nine minutes to reach boiling point set at Max. I added one cup of pasta and removed the cover while cooking so I could keep an eye on it. Pasta was perfectly cooked in the normal amount of time and the water remained at a steady boil throughout the cooking process. (Video attached). Burner surface was still at 368 degrees (see pictures) five minutes after it was turned off and unplugged and after 10 minutes it was still at 235 degrees. Obviously extreme caution is required around small children and curious pets to avoid serious contact burns. It's very lightweight and small enough to store pretty much anywhere. My first impression was positive. It performed as expected and better than I anticipated based on some of the reviews. I will update as time goes on if there are any issues to report. Update 4/26/24 - I have used this burner a few dozen times now since I bought it. I am especially pleased with its performance when making gravy. It maintains a steady simmer set on/or between power level 1 and 2. Regardless of what I'm cooking I don't notice any degradation in heat distribution after it reaches burner temperature and it cycles the burner to maintain the temperature without overheating. Foods still continue to cook exactly as they should without the need to fiddle with the heat knob. It maintains a steady simmer or boil as expected. Items brown nicely. Pasta cooks well. It has been very reliable so far. I love that I can place it on some butcher paper or old newspaper when I'm frying or sautéing and there is absolutely no mess to my countertops. Once it cools down it's so simple to clean with a damp cloth. I haven't used my induction stovetop in weeks. This little burner does such a great job and it has truly simplified my life because it's so portable I can cook on any surface. I just came back to purchase a second one for the times when I need two burners at once. ... show more

This burner is pretty good, no issues. I've used it a handful of times now, and the whole unit certainly gets pretty hot, not just the cooking surface, but I guess that's to be expected. It doesn't shut off and cool down then reheat like my coil burner, so that's an awesome plus, as well.

The media could not be loaded. I’ve been using this little electric cooktop for over a year and it’s held up well. In general it does what you it to do. Gets very hot and can boil water fairly quickly. The one disappointment is that the control knob seems to be of poor quality. For one thing markings on the knob started fading off fairly quickly at this point are almost gone making it difficult to tell how high the heat is. Also the knob gets a little sticky sometimes and I have to force it. Other than that this little stove has been working well for my needs. ... show more

Works great and I really couldn’t tell the difference in cooking time between this portable unit and my free standing range with infra red burners. I’d like to do a real test soon to see how much time each unit takes to boil a pot of water. It’s super lightweight and looks durable with stainless steel top and has simple good quality dial buttons to set the temps. I used a spare metal table I had and I lined it with aluminum foil for this cooktop to sit on it’s great. Cord is long enough for a standard kitchen wall outlet. Overall I love it! ... show more

We needed a 1000 watt burner as to not trip our breaker and this worked well. It looks good and does what it's supposed to. It doesn't heat up as fast as a 1500 watt burner, but it will boil water just fine in due time. That's kinda how physics work. This replaced a very minimal 12 year old unit, one of those "just the heating coil" cheapos. I had no idea how much I had shortchanged myself 12 years ago, this is so much better. The glass top really makes a difference in heat distribution, the old unit had a hotspot in the middle and cooled gradually to the edges. Not so with this, seems even from edge to edge. The old unit's control know would not turn off the element. Not a defect, other buyers complained of it (so I knew it before buying). This one turns completely off fully counter-clockwise and that is so handy. Of course you shouldn't depend on this, but it's convenient when dinner's hot & ready, I don't have to immediately unplug it. And the markings are wonderful, easy to see. Old unit just had a "pointer" with no reference marks at all, really all so arbitrary I hardly used it for temperature control at all. Finally, those "coil only" units have a design flaw built in, that is if you expect them to last. I suspect they are all like the one I had, although I'm not going to purchase any more just to find out. The coil has little integral legs that allow it to set in place. But the coil is free to flop around. The 2 wires that supply power to the coil are directly attached to it, underneath in the base unit. They take a beating from the movement and break off. They are difficult to deal with as they can't be soldered, they are connected with 1/4" fast-ons. The only way I got 12 years out of that unit was by repairing those wires more times than I can count, usually right in the middle of preparing food, not the most pleasant experience when your belly is rumbling. This unit may have the same system, but the glass top keeps the coil from flopping about and your pans sit on the glass, avoiding the constant moving of the coil, so this *should* work better. Time will tell. Every time I cook now I am thrilled with this unit. I'll never go back to "el cheapo" and neither should you. ... show more
