Like other reviewers have mentioned, it does take a while to boil water, but that’s ok - I have another Ovente item that boils water in a snap, the kettle. I use cast iron on this hot plate and it heats beautifully, evenly. It is easy to clean, but if you’re like me and hate streaks and smudges, know that no matter what you clean it with, it will be streaky. I am sure once that manufacturer’s film wears off the streaks will cease. I will use this in the future when the power is out and I am running a generator. This is the best electric stove I've ever used. It has a great thermostat that maintains a constant cooking temperature. The temperature dial is continuously variable and once you figure out the right setting you can set it and forget it. We bought this for an airbnb for a month which didn’t have a full kitchen and it’s working great for that purpose. It’s a little slow in heating up compared to a full size similar stove so you have to start a little before you need it. It slightly unevenly distributed as well but nothing crazy that you can’t cook well, you’ll just have to be mindful of that while cooking and keep stirring or rotating a little. I also mostly cook everything on this stove on the 4 - max setting, anything below 4 is too low for pan fry, etc. But overall works great for the purpose and fits well in a small kitchen space. ... show more

the only thing I disliked is the dial when in the off position should be straight up and down. If it's on full heat it is straight up and down but turned off its at the 1 o'clock position. this aggravates me for no real reason at all. Anyhow...several reviews said it too so long to boil water. First thing I did was take a 2 qt. pot put in a little more than a qt. of water and hard boil 4 eggs. from the min I took it out of the box til I removed the eggs was about 20 min. that's no slower than a stove. This morning about a half an hour ago I put a 6 qt. pot of beans on about half full and its bubbling away. The body does get quite hot so don't get too close even to the knob.     • Perfect -- Until -- It Died in 30 Days.

Owned it for less than 30 days. Used daily. At first, it was so perfect I was amazed. It was as good as the full sized stove I used to have. In fact, it seemed faster to heat! But then... it seemed to heat up too much for a while. I had to keep adjusting heat downward. I was scrambling eggs on the ONE setting (lowest temp). If it set it on FIVE to boil water, it was rocket fast. Although, it seemed to sometimes still spike the temp too hot - even on the ONE setting. Still, I persisted. Suddenly, this morning, there was a tiny smell of electrical burning. Then it was gone. And ... also gone was its ability to heat more than mildly. It can no longer boil 1 cup of water in 15 minutes! It's getting cooler and cooler. So I am using the exchange for same product that Amazon offered me. We'll see! When it worked it was amazing. But .... hmm. ... show more

This was a life saver, boiled water almost as fast as my stove top burners. Will keep for camping and if something happens again to my stove.
