This is one of the few cheap hot plates with solid cast iron burner and continuously variable heat setting. Most have 5 steps and no fine adjustment. Amazing for the price. It boils a quart of water in an 8” pot reasonably quick, maybe 8 minutes, for only being 1000w. If you have a big 12” aluminum or cast iron skillet it will not cook fast or brown foods much. It works ok for eggs, bacon, veggies and fish, but it would take a long time to cook a steak or boil corn on the cob in a bigger pot. You definitely use max temp for that. The temp control cycles to hold temp, but the cast iron burner holds a very stable temperature, good design. ... show more

This is a life saver! Very modern design, light weight, and fits in small spaces. Works better than an old stove which takes a long time to heat up and boil water. Although these burners work too well! You have to be careful with the temperature because it does heat up fast and it’s super hot. I actually had to turn it off and unplug it because it kept heating my food too much even at low heat. But that’s not a problem, I love my burners. They’re a great and useful purchase. ... show more

I purchased it because my kitchen is being worked on so I need something to cook my food. I know these don’t heat up like my stove top which I expected but it still gets the job done. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because it came scratched on the top of the stove and bent around the burner I almost think it could of been used I didn’t try returning it because I needed it and it works so…… ... show more

So far, it is doing a good job for me since I have been without a stove for months now. The only thing is how odd the burners are to me. I have had a gas stove for many years and electric is another learning curve. However, I had a boil over and later went to clean it. It has ridges that are rough and I wasn't sure what to use on it. Don't use a paper towel. Or a wash cloth, it tears it up. So I sprayed it with light soapy water and just blotted on it until the brown burn came off. Otherwise, I like it just fine. ... show more
