I had to go to home depot and get 1-1/4" gavanized pipe in the.plumbing section and cut it to about 1" long to be able to press the u-joints out of the wheel axels. While I was changing the ball joints to American Iron upgrades I decided to do the U-joints as well. I also did the brakes rotors and hubs. Helpful tip: all the u-joint caps/bearings were rusted at 100k. 95% of all you tube videos about hubs mention they just did the ball joints a few weeks earlier so I think the banging etc screws the hubs up if they are just about to go bad. So about this tool. With the ball joints and the u-joints it would have been better to be atleast 1/2" wider clamp to fit more of the tools' parts for pressing or extraction on a 2500. Its not possible to do the u-joints without the 1/1-4" pipe as all the other tube spacers are to wide or too long. This scenario is a little less of an issue with the ball joints but doing the ball joints is doable. It's barely big enough for 2500/F250 HD trucks. It was strong enough to handle impact, but I also used a 2lb hammer on the housings with a few moderate hits once the pressure was set, then just kept impacting to pushed it out all the way. I have nothing but praises for this product. I bought this to change my upper ball joints on my 2001 Toyota Tundra. I took a chance to get the 21pc set thinking that it probably has the needed adapters and receivers to do the job as the Tundra needed special cups and receivers to remove and install ball joints. Upon arrival the unit was pristine and even came in a box. It had all the adapters and receivers that I needed to do the job on a 22 year old truck which I don't know if the upper ball joints were even replaced before. The C-Clamp and cups was sturdy and removed the old one and installed the new ball joint without a problem. Just make sure to use a lot of grease on the threads and it will work smooth as butter. I even used this to remove and install new bushings for my steering rack. Great value for money and works like a charm. If you are a DIYer like me, this ball joint press is an absolute necessity. ... show more

So far, I haven't used it however the tool appears to be good. The box had been dropped in shipping and it broke the corner of the plastic case. The latch at the opposite corner is missing and it appears it was missing when it was packaged as it was not in the box it was shipped in. I hope this is not an indication of how the tool will hold up. I will update following first use. ... show more

    • Great for American cars and trucks, not so great for Japanese or European cars
I guess the product is sturdy by the look of it. It's heavy, weighing in at almost 30 lbs. Because of its heft, the carrying/storage case came a little damaged at one of its corners; not a reason to return it, though. I didn't try it because right off the bat, the manual says "check compatibility with your car before purchasing", a detail that somehow was forgotten in the online description of this product. ;-) The product description reads "Universally compatible with a wide range of vehicles..." The statement is an oxymoron: if the product is "universally" compatible it means it is compatible with ALL the vehicles - that's what "universal" means. If, on the other hand is compatible with a wide range of, but not all, cars then it is NOT "universally " compatible. I didn't pay attention to this detail, and been fooled into believing it will be compatible with my cars. Opening the user's manual, the user finds pages upon pages of American trucks and cars for which this product is compatible. Unfortunately for those who have such cars/trucks, the product is poorly represented in the Japanese or European cars area. It makes sense, since all the adapters are measured in SAE (i.e. inches, the American measuring system) instead of metric (i.e. mm, the rest of the world measuring system). Therefore, my suggestion is to check the compatibility with your track/car - the same is recommended in the user's manual. If your car/truck is compatible, you will be happy using it. If it not compatible... well, I'll let the user draw the conclusion. :-) Needless to say, I returned it, and I started looking for a replacement that will fit my Japanese and European cars and motorcycles. This kit has all you'll need to do ball joints and u-joints. Has a doc in the kit telling you which adaptors are used for most common applications. Used this to replace ball joints on my old CJ7 Jeep. Worked great and made the job easy.
