Love these things. I used them this weekend while doing a complete front strut refresh on my SK Forester: both front struts, both strut mounts, and both strut bearings, while transferring the OEM Subaru springs onto new Bilstein B4 struts. And holy hell were these better than the spring compressors you can rent from pretty much any local auto-parts store. Those rental tools always seem to have lived seven hard lives before they get handed to you. Bent threads, questionable hooks, uneven compression, and that constant background thought of, “Is this the exact moment this spring launches me into another dimension?” These felt completely different. The construction is beefy, the threaded rods move smoothly and predictably, and the locking setup gave me a lot more confidence while compressing the OEM Subaru springs. The retention pins are especially reassuring because once a spring is under load, I want as many things as possible helping keep it exactly where it belongs. Ease of use was excellent. I used a small cordless impact wrench carefully, giving each side short controlled bursts and working the compressors down evenly instead of just hammering away at one side like a lunatic. Used that way, the whole job went by so much smoother and faster than fighting tired rental compressors by hand. There is also basically nothing here to leak or make noise on its own. No hydraulic fluid, no seals, no mysterious puddle forming underneath the tool, and no motor or pump screaming in the background. Any noise comes from whatever ratchet or impact you decide to use. Simple mechanical tools like this are exactly what I want sitting in the garage waiting for the next suspension job. The range was plenty for the Forester setup, and these got a proper workout. Both OEM front springs had to come off the original struts and then be compressed again for installation with the Bilstein B4s, new mounts, and new bearings. Through the entire process, the compressors stayed stable and predictable. That is the biggest difference compared with the typical parts-store rental set. These stayed planted on the springs, tightened smoothly, and never gave me that constant feeling that I was participating in a garage-based physics experiment with potentially terrible consequences. Durability looks excellent too. The steel construction feels properly heavy-duty, the threaded rods still looked good after the full job, and nothing loosened, bent, or started looking questionable afterward. The molded storage case is another nice touch. Suspension tools are exactly the kind of thing that disappear into the garage after use, so having a dedicated case gives me at least a fighting chance of finding both compressors the next time I need them. For the money, these are an easy win. If you work on your own suspension even occasionally, I would much rather own a solid set like this than repeatedly rent mystery tools that have been abused by half the county. They made a complete front strut, mount, and bearing replacement using the OEM Subaru springs noticeably easier and far less stressful. And when you are dealing with compressed coil springs, “less stressful” is about the highest praise I can give a tool. My days of trusting mystery rental spring compressors are officially over.

I'm giving this 5 stars because it's a very good product. Easy to adjust and solidly built. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on motorcycle shock springs. I'm sure it works great for automotive applications. Ended up returning.

This OMT strut compressor tool set, was just what I needed to assemble my OEM Motorcraft struts for my Ford Flex. The strut springs for my car are larger and stronger than the standard ones. These had no problem whatsoever compressing them. Note: As with any spring compressor, you need to be slow, safe, and methodical. These can be very dangerous, if you don't treat the job as potentially dangerous.

Worked to compress an Old Man Emu coil spring on a Nissan Frontier. Grease the threads on the rod to reduce friction. Good value. I have been happy with other OMT tools and the spring compressor seems to be good enough quality to last a while.

I have rented the standard compressors from auto parts stores and have had issues with them not fitting around the coils on my f150. I also had them bend and overall lead to dangerous situations. I felt much safer and my job was way easier using these compressors. The hooks fit much better on truck springs and felt more secure. The included bracket came in handy as one of the clamps was sliding on one of my coils for some reason. Once I placed the “C” bracket between the 2 clamps, there was no more sliding and I was easily able to compress the spring. Overall great product and better than the typical cheap compressors. Always use these with precaution and wear safety glasses or a face shield as the potential energy stored in these coils will quickly ruined your day!
