  • Corded Electric is the way to go for big jobs
Style: Chainsaw
15 AMP 18-inch Corded Oregon Chainsaw – Homeowner and Firewood getter… First use was a 6-hour torture test. Cut seven tree’s in 10” to 14” thickness. Some were hardwoods, and others were pines. There were a couple of dozen smaller trees and shrubs with some aggressive pruning on many others. All total, the saw cut about 90 yds of slash and about a cord of firewood. The saw ran for hours non-stop. I did this all with a generator. The saw runs fine on a Honda 2000 13.3 Amp generator. It never blew the breaker, but I suggest you turn off the Eco-Throttle, so the generator doesn’t have to ramp up every time you pull the trigger on the saw. I’m not sure it would work with anything less than a 13.3 amp generator. We put two tanks of fuel through the generator for about 6 hours of run time. POWER - It cuts as fast as my Homelite 45cc 18-inch gas saw. It didn’t feel any slower. It wasn’t bogging any more or less than my gas saw either. Its also very quiet. I didn’t need hearing protection. SELF SHARPENER - I was skeptical of the blade sharpening system, but I will never buy another saw without this feature. A quick 3 or 4-second press on the sharpening button, and the saw cuts like butter again. I can’t say enough good things about this feature. Every saw should have this feature. TOOLESS CHAIN TENSIONER – Is another great feature, but you have to keep an eye on it. The adjustment knob locking wheel will sometimes back out. It’s a finger twist setup, and I don’t have as much torque in my fingertips as I used to. When the locking wheel comes loose, the tension adjuster can back out, and you lose tension on the chain. Once you realize this is a possibility, you will start to tweak on the lock out of habit to prevent this. Stronger hands may have different results. The convenience this feature affords cannot be denied. Again, this will become a must-have on all saws in the future. SAFETY – When you take your finger off the trigger, the saw stops dead. Typical gas saws will continue to spin for a moment when you release the trigger. This is the number one reason you should wear chaps. Your arms tire and you bounce the blade off your leg. I’m not saying you don’t need chaps with this saw, but it’s far safer in this regard. THINGS TO CONSIDER - I popped the chain off a few times. Maybe 3 times during the 6-hour session. It’s important to realize that it’s best to pull the bar completely off when resetting the chain. The chain was only sketchy like this when trimming thin grabby branches. Limbs so thin they hang up on the chain. My gut instinct is that this happens a little more with this style chain than with a more traditional chain you see on saws without this system. Still, I would not give up the self-sharpening feature because of this. It’s far better to have a constantly sharp chain, for this minor inconvenience. It only takes a tool-free minute to get the chain back on. The handle is set at an angle. It can be a little weird for those acrobatic cuts, but it feels more ergonomic for most typical cuts. I adapted very quickly. Overall… I bought this saw because, yet again, the carb on my gas carb was fouled. My fault, but still a reoccurring issue over the years. I couldn’t make it work this time, even after two complete disassemblies and a dip in the ultrasonic cleaning tank. I screwed with it for 3 hours before I gave up and ordered a new carb. There will always be a need in my life for a gas saw, but combine this saw with a generator mounted on an ATV or lawn tractor, and it can’t be beaten. And as for battery saws… it’s too soon. Your electric truck will be a generator long before somebody invents a chainsaw battery that will last hours. ... show more

  • This is a real chainsaw. Not a toy.
Style: Chainsaw
After my first hour + of cutting I wanted to give my first impressions. My ears aren't ringing, my hands aren't numb and I don't smell like 2 stroke fuel. It cut through a 14" pine log several times just like any other good saw. The weight is similar to my old Jonsered. (maybe a little lighter) The only negative is dragging around a cord. (I almost cut the cord once) but that's about it. I did throw the chain once but I never checked the tension so that's my fault. (it does says to check it in the manual and it was an easy fix) This saw has a few things a gas saw doesn't like a self sharpener witch I haven't had the chance to use cause after an hour of cutting mostly pine it still throws plenty of chips and I like that the chain stops moving as soon as you release the trigger. For the price you really can't beat it. I know an hour isn't enough time to truly evaluate a power tool so I'll give an update when I'm done cleaning up this down tree on my property and I'll try running it off my Honda 2000i for a bonus. For now I'm quite pleased with this "toy" Update as promised 1/13/22 (3 days later) I have most of the tree cut up into firewood size chunks. As you can see from the pictures this saw will cut fairly large wood. I finally used the sharpener and id does what it's supposed to very well. back to throwing big chips again. The generator runs the saw pretty well but if you put to much pressure on the saw for too long it pops the breaker. Still,..it will work in a pinch. make sure to use a heavy duty cord less than 100 feet. If the saw broke tomorrow I would have gotten my moneys worth but I don't see that happening. Still really happy with it. ... show more

  • Power to spare.
Style: Chainsaw
I have owned multiple gas chainsaws and one electric chainsaw. This particular Oregon electric model is just as powerful as the lesser brands you see sitting on the big box chain hardware stores. The chain stop works fantastic. I doubt you'll ever fear using a chainsaw once you experience this one. I just finished cutting a chord of Ponderosa pine. The automatic oiler doesn't leak like lesser electric saws do. This saw never bogged down. Now for the the best part! The attached blade sharpener really works. It takes seconds to sharpen the blade....and you do it without removing any parts. I believe the only down side is the quality of the casing. For a couple bucks more, this saw would be soooo much better. I haven't dropped it yet, but I am dreading the day I break part of the plastic housing. Edit 1/30/23. I just finished cutting 1/2 cord of oak, a 1/2 cord of cedar and a truck load of Chinese Pistache. Saw had no problems with either. A couple of 3 second pushes to sharpen the blade. Add more oil (have gone through almost a quart in 2 cords of wood). I just wonder how the motor will hold up long term. ... show more

  • Love the saw, hate that you have to replace the chain and stone as a set
Style: Chainsaw
Love the saw. Probably one of the best all-around chainsaws I've ever owned. I rarely use my gas saw anymore. I can run it on a 4000w inverter off of my idling truck all day. The inverter is overkill, but it is what I have on the truck. It can run on a 3000w, but will not run on either 2000w inverter, pure sine and modified sine wave, that I have. I hit the chain against a fence and damaged it, only to find out you cannot buy the powersharp chain without buying a set with the stone. The set is $33. You can use an S62 chain, which is 12 bucks, but won't work with the sharpener. The sharpener works well. Guess I'll have to be more careful with my chain. Sure wish they would sell the chain separate. What's wrong with you, Oregon? Love all of your products and this surprised me. ... show more
