have had Orbit B-Hyve hub and timers for 2 full seasons, starting my 3rd spring with them. These are easy to program and reliable. I had a problem with a valve failing to open this spring and Orbit support worked with me to verify that the valve had failed: they sent a replacement timer. The app made transferring the programming from the failed timer device to the new one as simple as it could possibly be. I take the timers off in the fall (along with disconnecting hoses, etc to protect outlets, hoses and timers from frost damage) and re-install them in the spring. All the programs are automatically synced with the timers within seconds of putting the batteries back into the units. Programming the timers to conform with local watering restrictions is simple. Identifying the watering zones in the app is simple: the app can take pictures of the zone so I don't have to guess where they are. The hub detects weather conditions and automatically delays or skips watering cycles if rain or frost are in the forecast. This is one of the most solid "smart" apps I've encountered - easy to use yet provides full features and functionality if you have more complex needs. And, unlike nearly every other app, it hasn't crashed on me. ever. (wish I could say the same for my not-so-smart watch!)

I bought this to connect a 2-port and a 4-port B-hyve timer so I could better control the yard watering and I'm pleased with how it works. Simply having the remote control ability away from home makes it worth buying, but being able to tie into localized weather to automatically go to standby for a period to prevent watering unnecessarily.

New Gen 2 system is utter junk! Gen 1 system worked for about 2 years and then started to get leaks and connective issues! We ended up buying, originally, 3 gen 1 systems. After about a year, the first one died. So we upgraded it to the gen 2. Since the day it arrived, we are able to get the Gen 2 to turn on and off when we are holding it inside, but as soon as it leaves the house, no good! We moved the little wall plug to the closest wall plug to the sprinkler system, which is about 3” away(wall thickness) is how close it is, and still nothing! We rest it and still the same problems! We have no clue where they went wrong but they seriously need to reevaluate programming or something because these things are not cheap!!! Now, year 2. The second Gen 1 has started to leak. Only one of the original Gen 1 systems work now and it is now barely wanting to work! We have completely reprogrammed the original Gen 1 and the new Gen 2 and still the exact same issues! We wondered “could it be our wifi?”. So we uninstalled the whole system, brought it over to our neighbor’s house, reprogrammed everything AGAIN, and guess what? EXACTLY SAME ISSUES ALL OVER AGAIN! We just bought another Gen 1 system, just so we can compare. This way we can see if it has to deal with aging, or could it come down to Their app! Side note: We remove all sprinkler systems mid fall, before the first free, to prevent any damages from ice. We also remove the batteries and wait until everything is dry before we put them up into storage for the remainder of the year! Hopefully this will save others from the same headache we are having!

The biggest issue for me was the range of this thing. Let me explain…I have two separate 4-port timers that are located on opposite sides of the house - one on the east and one on the West. The hub is unable to connect to both timers simultaneously - simply can’t reach the two due to its lack of range. I tried different location, different outlets throughout the house - no luck. It could only get one or another, but not both at the same time. I had to move the hub to a different outlet to be able to control the other timer. I had to buy additional hub to get the job done. When the hub is relatively close to a timer - everything works as prescribed. Let’s talk about the APP. It is pretty terrible! I cannot stress enough how incredibly inefficient the app is considering that all the hardware and technology is capable of doing the job right. Whoever programmed it has no clue what convenience and common sense is. Overcomplicated, none-intuitive horrible interface, horrible programming options of the timers, just horrible all the way around. The app needs a complete re-haul. Fire those who designed it! Conclusion: The hub has a very limited range, be aware! My mid point between the timers (east and west) was barely 20 feet! That’s only 20 feet to either of the timers! Especially if you have a brick house, plaster walls, etc. like in my house. The device’s signal cannot penetrate through the walls. That’s not to mention that I can pick up a wireless internet signal all around my house and outside of it with ease and all of my devices work flawlessly. I have a wireless mesh system in my house. In reality this device should not even exist! In perfect world the timers should be able to connect to your phone using a wireless network of your internet from ANYWHERE just like I open my garage door from my phone even if I’m a 1000 miles away from my house. Just outdated hardware design, expensive and unnecessary.
