  • Go juice and then some
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
There comes a time when you notice that turning the ignition key no longer launches the starter eagerly into action, but instead it reacts like asking your spouse to take out the garbage; it gets done but not without a flash of pained grimaces and a lethargic shuffle with shoulders stooped and an air of martyrdom. There's still some juice left in there but you know its past it's bloom of youth. If you don't want to find yourself pleading with passers-by with your jumper cables in hand one cold morning or waiting for the triple-A guy to show up hours later to help you get mobile again, you know it's time to replace your battery. Optima batteries have a reputation as the Clidesdales of the battery world, used in applications where reliability and extra power are needed; i.e., a car with lots of amplifiers in the sound system or extra fog lights or a power winch. (as in SUV or Jeep) Something to do with using 100% copper in the plates which are wound concentrically instead of laid out in a sandwich-like grid, which increases the surface area of exposed copper. (Thus the round cylinders visible in their body.) My car has a tight, high compression sports car engine and living in a hot climate means the air conditioner is engaged also all the time putting more strain for the battery to pull at start-up. When I push the start button now, my car literally snaps into action in a millisecond, there's so much extra power reserve. The dimensions are also smaller than the OEM battery so there's extra room in the engine bay for cooling air flow under there. From all I've read and my own experience, I highly recommend this to replace your OEM battery. As for your spouse, you'll just have to work things out or produce less garbage. ... show more

  • optima yellow top battery for Miata NB
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This battery is a great battery. A little bit taller, but it fits inside of Miata trunk fine. My previous yellow top battery lasted for 13 yrs and 4 mos. and that's why I purchased this battery again. Both OPT8071-167 D51 or OPT8071-167 D51R will fit, but OPT8071-167 D51R would be easier to install. I would recommend this battery for all NB Miata owners. ... show more

  • Always a Great product
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
I have an Optima battery in everything I own. I'm currently running 8 vehicle and pieces of equipment. After 10 years, one battery quit. They are expensive but the trade off is to buy a discount battery every other year at 150 or so.I live in the high desert 4000 ft with extreme teps in winter and summer. For one of these to last 10 years is remarkable. I just wish they were in the 200 dollar range. ... show more

  • GREAT Product..POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
The Optima D51 is a GREAT Battery! The last one I had lasted seven years. In this case; I was disappointed! The Battery arrived two weeks after I ordered it. This was courtesy of Amazon "free shipping??" Although in "new" condition, the battery was 100% dead when it arrived. This indicates it was on a shelf, warehoused for at least seven years and never rotated as any item with a shelf life should be. I charged the battery three times and it was 100% unservicable. Reported this to Amazon and they offered to ship a replacement that would take another week or so to reach me. With the possibility of getting yet another expired battery, I requested a refund. This was my 1st bad experience through Amazon. Lesson learned, don't order anything from Amazon that has a shelf life. ... show more

  • Pricey, but worry free.
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
My last optima lasted 12 years without a single issue, but when it DID die, it was sudden and without warning. Still, 12 years of solid cranking power and my battery terminals still look like brand new. The ruggedness and no corrosion worry is why I started buying Optima batteries in the first place. I drive very little, so the yellow top is very forgiving of long periods of sitting idle. Although, it is a good idea to use a battery tender on modern cars, as the electronics WILL kill a battery in a few weeks of sitting. Some people have bad luck with these batteries... I don't know why that is, but I have owned 6 of them, with not a single one ever lasting less than 10 years. My first one lasted 16! ... show more

  • Battery lasts FOREVER
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
I bought a used Prius with which had this battery in it. It was 4 years old at the time. But in this battery the plates are wound in a circle which results in FAR more surface area of positive and negative plates inside the battery resulting in a FAR longer usable life. I'm on my 6th year according to the battery date and it tests perfect in both voltage and load testing with less than 10% loss in load testing after 6 years of use. THAT"S AMAZING compared to other lead acid plate batteries. ... show more
