I had previously used kinesiology tape on larger parts of my body, but never any on my hands. I do have some arthritis and wondered if these precut tapes would help the pain and stiffness in my right hand given most of the problem is below my thumb where it attaches to the hand. I found the kinesiology tapes were simple enough to put on by myself. Although it would be easier if someone were with me to put it on, the way the tape backing is designed, it actually makes it fairly simple to apply alone. The backing comes off in sections, and it is clearly marked in the instructions as to which backing comes off first, second, third, etc. Then as you remove each piece, you can stretch the actual tape a bit to have it wraparound and stick to your hand. The stickiness lasts long so even with washing your hands numerous times throughout the day, you only need to replace it every few days.

After ordering these thumb supports I saw that there were some reviews about these being too long and not fitting well… I can honestly say I don’t see where the problem is. They were perfect size to fit on my hands and I don’t feel like I have overly large hands either. They’re medium size at most. If you put these supports on correctly, then they fit just fine and you have no problem and there’s no reason or need to cut them down. The long part does go on the thumb area and the two side parts go around the wrist. When put on the top of the blue strip just barely covers my top knuckle and doesn’t even get near my thumb nail. These strips are easy to apply, but it does help if you have someone to help you put them on. I could do it myself if needed though. The paper backing on these even has numbers to help you when putting them on. It tells you which part to pull off first to get it to stick correctly – first the center so you can figure out where to place it initially, then the thumb, the bottom tab next, and lastly the two side pieces that wrap around the wrist (I included a couple pictures of the patch without me pressing it down completely to show the location of where the strip should go). Each patch is only supposed to be worn for up to 24hours. The sticky on them is okay. It doesn’t irritate my skin which I’m happy about and I can still move and function with the strip on much better than I can if I were to wear a brace. I like that it’s less bulky and I find it does help when I have pain in my thumb area. It’s not going to completely relieve it, but it does help to take some of the pressure off. I do feel that these are a bit on the expensive side. They’re over $2.50 per strip which to me is quite a bit since these are a one use pain reliever. If you have pain that flairs up a lot, then the cost will add up. But if you are looking for something that is easy to apply, designed well for the thumb area, and are ready to use then these are great.

I tried this OPPO 8080 Precut Kinesiology Tape on my mom's thumb given her frequent and moderate thumb pain. Splints can be bulky and inconvenient for someone who already has issues with their hands, especially during flare-ups, so the tape provides a solution for one of those with a fraction of the surface area. There are five pre-cut, single-use strips included in one package. The back of the strips have numbered steps to aid in application and when following along with the instructions. I recommend utilizing the logo on the front of the trip to ensure the correct direction. It was difficult for my mom to personally place the tape in the correct place given the flimsy material. The length of the strips are also quite long considering the average size of a thumb without shortening it. Given this, these are more suitable being placed with the assistance of another person. The tape does provide support and pain relief for my mom's thumb. We were both pleasantly surprised with how much relief she was able to receive, given how lightweight and stretchy the material is. It feels as if it would not work well, but it does! There were no signs of irritation during or after use either. Overall, the pre-cut k-tape is nice to have for thumb and wrist pain, but for something that likely requires frequent use, it is not the best value for five. There are multiple areas that could be improved to ensure a more reliable product.
