๐Ÿš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Motorola Razr 2023 has received positive feedback for its upgrades from the 2020 model, making it a strong competitor in the flip phone market. Reviewers highlight its improved battery life, larger and better-quality screens (both inner and outer), and the added convenience of wireless charging. The incorporation of a better camera and a 120Hz refresh rate also contribute to its perceived value. Users transitioning from other brands or earlier models have found the switch easy and seamless, appreciating the device's build quality and performance.

Pros

  • ๐Ÿ”‹ Improved battery life, with some users reporting more than a day's use on a single charge.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฑ Larger, higher-quality screens that enhance readability and app usage, even on the outer screen.
  • ๐Ÿ“ธ Upgraded camera and 120Hz refresh rate for a better viewing and capturing experience.
  • ๐Ÿ”„ Easy transition from other phones with seamless file and settings transfer.
  • ๐Ÿ”Œ Supports wireless charging, adding convenience for users.
  • ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Excellent build quality, with a durable and robust feel that improves over the 2020 model.

Cons

  • โ— Some users may find one-handed use difficult due to the phone's form factor.
  • ๐Ÿ’ผ Can be slippery without a case, necessitating extra care or an additional purchase to ensure grip.
  • ๐Ÿค” Concerns over durability of the fold with frequent use, though no immediate issues reported.
  • ๐Ÿ” Screen ripple observable at the fold, a minor distraction noted by some users.

Should I Buy It?

For fans of flip phones or those seeking a compact, yet powerful smartphone, the Motorola Razr 2023 is a compelling option. It offers a solid upgrade from previous models with significant improvements in screen quality, battery life, and camera performance. If you value the novel design and can manage the higher price point, it's a worthwhile investment. However, consider the potential drawback of its handling and long-term durability of the folding mechanism if you're a heavy user.

  • My wife loves this phone a little more each day
Color: Magenta
For those of you who think that modern day phones are too big, this flip phone might be for you. I certainly didn't want to jump into the 1st few generations of a flip phone since I wasn't convinced about the folding screen quality and durability. But the tech is much better now and the folding screen isn't so hard to get used to. The specs say this phone is solid. Maybe just a half step down from a flagship phone. I thought that between the Samsung Galaxy flip 5 and this phone that my wife would opt for the Samsung as she's been using Samsung for the past 3 or 4 phones. I was surprised when she agreed to go with the razr. In terms of specs, the flip 5 has a slightly better processor but you can't tell a difference in real life. Same ram and memory for the same MSRP. The inside screen is comparable with the flip 5 being a little brighter but both are clear and sharp and offer a very nice viewing experience. You need to get used to the crease. Buying a flip phone, the crease in the screen is inevitable. When doing any surfing, I find my wife and I forget about the crease. In fact, she hasn't said a thing about it since the 1st day. The outside screen on the razr is hands down better. It allows better screen customization than the flip 5 and it's slightly bigger. It's also a higher resolution screen than the flip 5. I like how you can put almost any app on the small outside screen. You must use the stock keyboard for typing on the outer screen but that's fine. It's a full qwerty keyboard. Fat fingers will struggle but if you are petite like my wife, it's just fine. For anything quick like responding to a text, the phone stays closed and she responds on the outer screen. For anything more time consuming and intensive, flip it open and do your thing. My wife was getting tired of the big phone. The s21 ultra was big enough that she always had to think about which purse to take. Small purses weren't really options. That's why I thought I'd steer her towards a flip phone. It's so nice and compact and this magenta color is really sharp. Perfect for her. Today she went for a walk. No keys. Just her phone and earbuds. It was perfect cuz she had small shorts with small pockets and the phone fit with room to spare. Any other phone would have fallen out. I have thought about downsizing the phone myself. But really, if you can deal with the crease on the main screen, it's still a big screen at 6.9 inches and bigger than most of the modern phones. That's plenty big when you flip it open. But it folds so small that it fits nicely in your pocket. It's thicker than the current phones when folded up but thinner when open. Almost forgot to mention, when we were looking at the flip 5 and the razr, one thing I didn't like about the flip was how much the camera stuck out. The flip has squared sharp edges while the razr has rounded edges. So the razr is sleeker. The rounded edges of the razr let's it sit in the hands better than the squared off edges of the flip 5. Both have a power button fingerprint reader. I don't know how sensitive the flips reader is but the razr is really sensitive and fast. I know the reviews say the flip 5 camera takes better pictures. Maybe when you compare side by side but by no means does the razr take bad pictures. This is getting nitpicky. Sure, you are allowed to critique what you spend your money on but the reality is, the camera is just fine on the razr. I have not put it to the test. My upcoming vacation should allow me to see how good the camera is. I have no doubts my pixel camera will be better but it was better than the s21 ultra too (and just about any phone I've tested). Thus far, my wife hasn't said anything negative about the pictures she has taken. But we're not super duper picky. If you buy this phone fully understanding the limits of a flip phone and it's advantages and do not have unreal expectations, I think this phone is almost perfect. If I needed a new phone, I would definitely consider this one though I'd probably wait for the newest model due out mid year in 2024. I've always loved the razr line even dating back to the original flips Motorola used to make. Seeing that iconic name back in play with a new modern day phone has really perked my interest. I'm just really glad it has lived up to my expectations. ... show more

  • This Phone Is Fantastic -Why Haven't We Heard about It?
Color: Black
I bought a Motorola phone last year and I was thoroughly impressed with the look and the operation of the phone as compared to the other brands I have bought over the years, such as Samsung and Apple. I did however have to return it because I could not get it to work with my CGM (constant glucose monitor) used with NGC - the same wireless system used for Apple Pay and GPay. I did bring it to the attention of Motorola and they gave me a number of things to try but it just would not work with the Abbott Libre system, and thus I had to return it. What a difference a year makes! Not only does this phone work with my CGM, but I did not even have to put on a new CGM, which is typical when you change phones before the 14-day operational period is over as one phone does not recognize in most cases the same CGM initiated by a different phone. This one not only recognized the CGM but it read it as if I initiated it with this phone, which I have to tell you I was thoroughly impressed with! As for the more than 100 apps that I normally use, the information copied from my old phone went flawlessly, and I had trouble with this even with the S23 Ultra that I am replacing with this phone. It went so quickly that I had to check and be sure it was complete. The system updates went on in the background flawlessly I was not even aware they had been done until the phone informed me that they had been completed. The screen quality is excellent, much better than I anticipated! The cameras although only moderately high in pixel count, take excellent pictures, and since most of us are not Frederico Fellini, the picture quality is excellent and no one except a supercomputer or a really terrible camera could tell the difference! What it lacks in high pixel count it makes up for in picture quality. Colors are excellent even in low light! The external screen gives you a bunch of information and does not require a special app to use your apps as is the case with Samsung and the Fold 5. In fact, I haven't had to open it once since I loaded it up. I read some complaints about battery life, even at the height of reinstalling all the apps making all the personal adjustments, and having the internal screen open for about two hours continuously using the phone, the battery level never fell below 90% which is about the same as the S23 Ultra I'm replacing it with. Understandably have only had the phone two days, but it is off to an excellent start. Today I actually go back to work which would be the ultimate test of its battery life and durability. I'll keep you updated. ... show more

  • Like new, but doesn't last
Color: Black
I got my used Razr 2023 in used like new condition, and when I received it, I confirmed this was the case and setup my phone. I've enjoyed the experience and especially loved how small the phone becomes when folded. Then it's amazing you can just text or do what you need on the closed front screen. I use the inside screen so little, I didn't realize that the screen has become damaged at the crease. I haven't had anything happen, haven't gotten into sand, water, or anything. Just bought this phone in July and now in November, it's still usable, but there's a bunch of lines in my crease that are obvious damage, and you can even feel them with your finger. I can't recommend folding phones any longer. I had a Galaxy Z Fold 3 before this phone that lasted a solid 2 years and is still going, but after about a year also developed the same screen damage I have on this Razr on the crease. It appears that these folding phones can really only operate for 2 years at max, 1 if you want them in perfect condition the whole time. As an avid Folding phone lover, I don't know where to go next or what to recommend anyone for a good alternative. If you really want this phone, buy the newest version used like new. I had a great experience getting a used Z Fold. I recommend getting a Z Fold 5 Used like New on eBay or here on Amazon. I think I just jumped the gun getting this phone, especially with the new version coming out so soon after I got this. ... show more

  • All about the fold
Color: Black
I'm going to try and provide a realistic review here. This phone is cool! But it is not special in any way outside of the fold. When unfolded the screen has a little ripple in it in the middle, it is noticeable but nothing is blurry or missing completely. It just feels funny scrolling. It does not change the way things on the screen appear. The most convenient part is the front screen. When folded, you can answer calls, texts, DM's, take pics, check apps. This is a good thing. Also, it's small. Folded it's the exact size of a post-it note. Unfolded it is the same size as all the other phones out there but extremely thin. Might be an issue for people who go ~crash bang~ no matter what they do. I do worry for whatever reason about folding/unfolding this thing 300 times a day. Will it hold up? Time will tell. My phone does not make any noise when opening/closing, it's not an old rusty gate. I did not buy this phone for any reason other that the size. I wear basketball shorts and it does not fall out of the pockets, that was all I needed. Otherwise, it's just a normal, above average, Moto phone. If you're a Moto lover, you'll dig it for sure. Update 9/16/2024: Screen has visible lines in the center on the fold. Not sure if it's the factory screensaver or the actual screen but it's very annoying. Lesson learned ... show more

  • Get It While On Sale! Get It While On Sale!
Color: Blue
Have had the Razr+ for a whole month now, wanted to run it through it's paces before writing a review. It is a solid phone. It's nice having a 6.7" display on the inside, and the 3.5" on the outside is very handy in some situations as well. I have had it both in personal time and took it to work in an industrial setting, and it feels solid and can take a little bit of abuse. Recommend a case though. Highly recommend this phone for anyone looking to free up some pocket space. I'll compose a small list of pros and cons below. PROS: - It folds! - Screens are bright and easy to look at - Feels very sturdy overall - Wireless charging is not fast, but a nice perk - It can play games and high quality videos smoothly NEUTRAL: - Sturdy, but the hinge feels a bit flimsy when partially opened, just be careful - Battery life isn't the best, but it does charge quickly so keep a charger close by - Random people WILL want to ask questions and "look at it" when out in public - No charging brick or factory protector in box (took a page from Apple) CONS: - The hinge may be the thing that gives out in time - Not many customization options, but there is just enough - A little tough to find a case that actually stays on - Cameras and UI could be better, but it operates like a Moto should - Not worth the $999 price, but totally worth the sale price Well that's a brief rundown of how I feel about it so far. Overall I love it, just hope they refine a few more things in the future, I may keep buying Razr for a while. I will update this review as needed, but this is after a month of use. And as far as a case goes, GET A CASE, thank me later. I went through three cases, but the cheap Cresee brand case (sold on Amazon) is the best one so far. Hope this helps someone. ... show more

  • Near perfect for what I was looking for
Color: Black
First you have to ask yourself if a flip phone is right for you? Standard phones are optimized for a large battery size and a top notch camera, but not optimized for convenience of size when carrying/portability and when in use for basic phone functions. Flip phones are optimized for convenience of size/portability. But the form factor forces a compromise on battery size and camera capability. I put a priority on convenience/size, so a flip is a no-brainer IF it has the necessary functional capability. The RAZR + does, with the inclusion of the external screen as it enables my most used functions without the need to open the phone. I'm not the type who buries my head in my phone all day on social media/TikTok and/or games. If I were, then a flip may not be optimal. Based upon the above analysis, the question then comes down to the razr+, or the Samsung flip 5, since they both have external screens. The factors favoring the Samsung are that it has the more powerful Snapdragon Gen 2 vs. the Gen 1 in the Razr+. Since I don't put high demands on the processor the Gen 1 in the Razr+ is more than adequate for me. Another advantage it has is a marginally better camera, though neither is as capable as what can be had in a brick phone. Again, this is not a high priority for me. So this leaves one final advantage for the Samsung, and that is water resistance. The Samsung is rated for surviving being submersed in water, where the razr+ is only rated to be splash resistant. In all the years I've had a cellphone I've never dropped it in the toilet and don't plan to in the future (or any other body of water for that matter). Though this is not a vital factor for me, if all else being equal, then it would be a deciding factor. But all else is not equal. For one thing, while the razr+ is not as robust against water damage, it is rated much higher against dust, which I understand to be important for flip phones. But the key advantage for the razr+ is the external screen. It as much higher resolution, and importantly, it is much easier to use a number of apps. Thus, 80+% of the things I do with my phone I can do without the need to open my phone- text messaging, making/receiving phone call, assessing my wallet and the QR code I need to enter my gym, and any other QR codes for various tickets. The Samsung external screen is much less capable and more complicated to use apps. So, for my needs, the razr+ is the clear winner. Another thing to note is that reviews often state the hinge on the razr+ seems less robust and does not inspire confidence as compared to the Samsung. However, it seems very robust to me, and when compared to my son's Samsung Flip 4, I see no difference. Though the Flip 5 may have an improved hinge compared to the flip 4, I dunno. Since I can do most of what I need to without opening the phone, I would be putting less stress on the hinge compared to the Samsung any way. In short, I would say the the razr+ is optimized for flip phone advantages. While the Samsung seems to be trying to please both the flip market and the brick phone user. As a result, it is sub-optimal for both. I suppose if you have other Samsung devices, such as the watch, then maybe the Samsung environment may be important to you. UPDATE: 9July2024 I'm loving it even more with time. I rarely have to open it up. Even with writing text messages, while the external keyboard is smaller than the internal, the folded phone fits so comfortably and securely in my hands, I am able to type just as well as with a standard keyboard. With my old phone I was always, annoyingly, aware that my phone was in my pocket. With this, I often find my self checking my pocket to make sure it is there. ... show more

  • A strong upgrade to the 2020 Razr; feels like a flagship phone A strong upgrade to the 2020 Razr; feels like a flagship phone
Color: Black
I am 4 days in and was coming from the 2020 Razr flip phone, which is pretty decent and I have enjoyed. The 2020 is generally a solid phone; no delamination, nice outer screen and easy to operate. The clamshell on both phones protects the screen well, so expect the phone to last. This new 2023 Razr made all of the upgrades in exactly where it needed it. Now with wireless charging, 120hz refresh, bigger battery, bigger screen and a better camera. The processor is powerful enough for smooth operation everywhere. Also, so far no squeak like the 2020, but that never bothered me in the first place because it was so minor. The build quality is great; tight fit but robust feel. When open it feels like a regular smart phone with no movement. The phone fold stays where you put it, also an improvement over 2020. The outer screen is large enough to use most apps; an improvement over the 2020, which was already good (I have used the 2020 to scan my boarding pass QR when traveling). The inner screen is just enough larger than the 2020 that it is easier to read everything for more mature eyes. Great value for the price; Samsung had better watch out! I expect 2+ years and at $900 it is a steal. Finally, this had to be the easiest switch of phones I ever had. The file transfer occurred over the included USB type C cable. It was about 15 to 20 minutes, but EVERYTHING transferred... My Google account, all of the apps, most of my games progress and even the location of the icons. I did have to readd the one weather widget, but not a big deal. Bravo, Motorola! ... show more
