I've owned every foldable from Samsung since the Z-Fold2 (except the new 7), and was a die hard Samsung guy until the inside screen on my Z-Fold5 died like 3 times, and the local shop said Samsung wouldn't replace it any more, even though it was still within the year. Fine, I got a 6 and within a MONTH the stylus had stopped working, and frankly the phone took a step backwards within several features like the camera, stylus tools, fingerprint reader, wireless charging, etc. I was late to the OnePlus game, and holy smokes I wish I would have joined sooner. The OS has some things I wish they'd figure out (keyboard in MS-Teams when unfolded, some rotation things are wonky, SIM sometimes needs me to reboot to get data, etc...) but this phone is better in just about every single way compared to Samsung. Battery life, form factor, lack of inside screen destroying itself, camera, etc... all better in my opinion. Forget relative value, I think it is honestly a BETTER phone regardless of price. I did break the inside screen once, and it was 100% my fault - but OnePlus replaced it anyway, and in the process messed up the tickets and I got a brand new phone plus my old one completely repaired. I tried to return it, they said keep it. So now I have this one, plus another one that is pretty much brand new in the box (although I do charge it, boot it, and let it run the battery down to like 20% then recharge and turn it off like every 6-8 weeks.) My one complaint is that the stupid thing won't die. I've had it now since February of '24, and I have dropped it, kicked it, had it fall off the tractor into dirt, it literally came out of my pocket at 45mph on my motorcycle and ate pavement (with a decent case, mind you), and besides LOTS of scratches and a dead spot about a 3 square mm on the inside screen just above the camera, it just keeps going. I stopped using a case with it about 3 months ago because I'm ready to swap to the new one, and I figured it would have gotten cracked, inside screen would have died, or something else by now. Nope. Battery still lasts 2 full days, camera still fine, screen scratched but fine, fingerprint reader fine. Stupid thing won't give up. Hope they made money on this one enough to do another one. This form factor is by far my favorite, and I'm sure EVENTUALLY I'll need a new one, and I don't want the Fold, and I def don't want the exploding Pixel.

I have to say, I was surprised by this phone. Being a loyal Samsung user for over the last decade, I was conflicted between choosing this or the Fold 5. Eventually choosing this phone due to the better screen ratios and for One Plus's (technically) first folding phone and my first One Plus phone. Wow. Just wow. I've had the phone for around 3 days now and so far I have gotten multiple compliments. And while I can not recommend the phone currently due to the admittedly high prices of folding smart phones. I plan on recommending it when it assumedly drops in price when the next generation releases. Pros; • Perfect foldable screen aspect ratios. Unlike Samsung that insists on a thing outer folding screen in (an assumed) attempt to make people want to use the opened form of the phone. One plus instead offers a for normal outer screen. Not only meaning you can use it like a normal phone but also get a larger tablet from factor. • Invisible Crease When the screen is folded open the crease is probably the best currently on the market. Unable to be seen unless held at angles that you would never even think of looking at the phone at unless you wanted to see the crease. • Battery Life So far I have only gotten below 50% battery after regular use of the phone in one day. That day being the first day I got the phone, when it arrived at 50% battery. • Charging This phone will charge FAST. I've put this charge at charge around 60% and came back 20-30 minutes later to see it fully charged. Cons; • Price Now this is a problem with all main foldable phones currently on the market but yeah... I honestly can not see foldable becoming main stream until they are able to be brought down in price. Though that is probably still a few years off. • Software Now this is not a dig at Oxygen OS as it so far feels like a good skin on the great Android OS. But some apps act weird when swapping between open and closed modes. Stretch long or squishing. I don't know if this is because these apps have only focused on working well on screen sizes similar to the Galaxy Fold but it is an issue where I sometimes have to close out of apps when swapping between screens just to not deal with awkward lay outs. Besides that though so far everything has been great.

So about a month ago I decided it was time to finally break away from the apple eco system. I was sick of it. I really liked the refined design of the fold 6 and knew I wanted something that felt vastly different from a candy bar form factor. The phone was great and had a lot of features that wowed me. The AI tools were fun and silly and the screens were bright and vibrant. I got blue bubbles working at home and thought I was good to go. A week passed and I realized I wasn't in love. That damn front screen is just so narrow. I have little hands. I'm a small guy. I didn't think it would bother me. I couldn't type a sentence on it to save my life. The cases for it added such a strange cheap bulky feeling to the phone and made me feel like I was carrying around a TV remote. The inner screen was so damn glossy, I couldn't see outside or even in my apartment for that matter because it reflected EVERYTHING around me and was covered in smudges in an instant. You can't set the phone down flat on a table because of the camera placement. It was also uncomfortable to hold with those sharp corners. The one plus open has fixed all of those issues for me. The inner screen feels so much more premium and the outer screen is a perfect size. I love the anti glare inside and can't get over how shallow the crease is. I honestly even like the OS more. Coming from iOS, it's a little more inviting. Of course I miss the wireless charging and AI features, but I can absolutely live without those. The cameras are so much better and I prefer the more tasteful image processing. Samsung pics look like an acid trip, they're so oversaturated. The OnePlus open feels so much more premium and carefully crafted. I also don't really need these phones to be much thinner...I like how solid the open feels. I don't feel like it's going to break every time I unfold it. While it may not be snapdragon 8 gen 3, gen 2 runs extremely well. Battery life is absolutely better even at high performance. So happy to join the OnePlus ecosystem. Such a brilliantly balanced device.

Ignore the clutter in the background. This phone is less than 60 days old. As you can see from the photo, 30% of the pixels have failed along the center fold and the right-side of the screen from the hinge does not respond to touch. The phone still functions fine in folded mode. After 2 days of trying to get to support, all I got was a sorry, no replacement after 15 days... And the repairs are on my dollar as well, and will take several weeks. Overall performance was snappy and crisp. The phone was thinner than my old Z-fold 4 which was nice, and the plugged in charge is SUPER fast... but for a high-end phone in 2024 to LACK wireless charging is a disappointment. Also the phone does run hot if you are watching a lot of video/youtube. On day 59, I'd have written a MUCH better review, but the build quality, and worse support make this a 1 star rating. Avoid.

This phone is a powerhouse. Incredible features. Constantly receives updates. Powerful enough processor and takes great photos. The AI editing software is off the charts awesome. Having the full open screen real estate when needed is super helpful for photo editing and spreadsheet editing. Battery life, one year in is still over a day. One days of heavy usage at work, I come home and still have 40%+ life left. I wish they would develop the Open 2. There are a few annoyances such as screen line on inner screen. OnlyPlus will fix for a fee but it takes weeks. Also, the inability to sort files on home screens. This makes it difficult to find some programs. Also, when editing photos, when I choose replace original photo, the software ignores that and creates 2 copies. These are software glitches similar to many phones and can be fixed in updates, which are regular. Overall, this is a great folding phone, that needs some work. I still Recommend.

First - people either love "fold" cell phones or they hate them. I love them. I've used a couple of Samsung's Z Folds. My only negative for the Samsung Z Fold is - when not folded - the screen is too narrow. So when OnePlus announced they were going to have a Fold (Open) - I was excited. Because they were coming out with one - and because it would get me back in the OnePlus family. I had the original - OnePlus One, then 3, then 6, N200, then 9. For me there's no problem with their launcher/operating system - OxygenOS. But I do flip between OOS and Microsoft Launcher because I like variety. I did that with my Samsung phones too. I like change. What can I say. I like the feel in my hand. I like that the front screen is wider - and when open the screen is bigger. I like that there aren't a bunch of preinstalled stuff that you don't want to use - and some of which you can't uninstall. OxygenOS is a pretty clean operating system - no unnecessary bloat - i haven't had to remove any apps. I am having an issue with making/receiving calls when WiFi is on - my cell provider (cough t-mob cough) just told me "turn off WiFi" which is them saying - it's not our problem. And to be transparent - I had the same issue with with my cell provider branded Samsung Folds - no or spotted calls when WiFi was on - and got the same response from my provider - "turn off WiFi." And yes - that does fix the sympton - not the root cause. I have reached out to OnePlus support - they responded very quickly - asked me for some information that my cell provider never asked. So we shall see. It's not a deal breaker for me because I have unlimited calls/text/data - so I can keep WiFi off. Would be nice to have it on when I'm streaming music and video, etc. Anyhow - to wrap up - great phone - love how fast and clean it is - and love being back with the OnePlus family again.

For anyone using AT&T, be warned AT&T WiFi Calling is not an option with the Open. Using T-Mobile, WiFi Calling was available so it’s not an issue with the phone. Possibly the worst phone I've ever bought. I knew it was foldable and was willing to deal with the extra thickness, but will get back to the physical aspects. The Good: Sound and picture were great. I did not care for the difficulty of their OS (a twist on Android similar to what Samsung does) and their bloatware apps are just meh, but otherwise it ran fine and looked great. Battery life was good. The Bad: When it is folded into a normal phone screens the power button and volume buttons are difficult to reach and press when one handed because the fold has them just so slightly tucked in. Many times I had difficulty getting it to "wake up" when it dimmed the screen and many times had to reboot it for the screen to come back on. The Ugly: The finger print scanner being on the button was practically unworkable and non-intuitive. This made it hard to work with any apps that used biometrics for unlocking etc. But, the worse thing of all, Amazon sold me a phone that was not set up for North America. According to OnePlus it had been for a different region and was modified so it would NOT upgrade to Android 16. That meant all the apps were a version or two back. I could not use Android Auto because the version in the phone was too old. I went through OnePlus tech support and they said the phone had been reset from another region and therefore they couldn't help. I gave it two stars because it did look fabulous but in reality it is just too bulky, too cumbersome and the inability to update made it an expensive brick.
