  • Reliable and easy to use
I've used this tool on two struts, and though that may not be a lot, it served its purpose well. I like that this model uses jam nuts to lock the clamp into place, I thought it made it easier when having to adjust it. I saw a few reviews with pictures of stripped threads, and that concerned me a bit. However, aside from material failure, the only way I can see that happening is when people decide to use and impact to compress one side instead of alternating between each side after a few threads. DO NOT COMPLETELY COMPRESS ONE SIDE FIRST. I took both sides of the tool apart after the strut job and found no evidence of thread failure or deformation of any kind. Use your tools correctly and they will serve you well. ... show more

  • First time I felt safe while assembling Struts
Color: Black
First used these on some Bilstein 5100's and Moog FJ springs which have a tight coil pattern compared to say a BMW. These fit between rungs with little wiggle room. The threads are smooth, though lubing them is helpful as is running them in and out before attempting that with spring pressure. That said, they worked flawlessly and was able to assemble the set in under 15 minutes using just a ratchet. I had used the cheap Harbor Freight spring compressors in the past, which were scary to say the least and ended up bending on me after a 3rd shock. This has the added safety of a "cage" to help keep the spring from flying out in the case of a failure. I was needing to play with spring perch height, so I ended up doing each spring off and on 3 times and the tool looks and works good as new. I am excited to keep it in the shop for my other projects. This was money very well spent, and should last the life of my career for just a few more bucks over the cheaper style! Just buy them if needing to build or replace a strut on the cheap you won't be sorry. ... show more

  • Quality strong tool, recommend for spring compression, removal. installation
Color: Black
This is a sturdy tool that works well. I was a little apprehensive doing my first coil, but with this tool, gained a lot of confidence and rolled right by replacing the springs and shocks on the front of my 4runner. Compressed one spring more than is required because, I placed the spring perch on back wards, which resulted in quite a bit more spring compression. This tool handled it with no problem. The metal loop that helps to keep the tool in position was more of a headache than useful, I removed mine. ... show more

  • Very disappointed in the quality of this product.
Color: Black
I really liked the secure way these locked onto the coils of the spring as well as the way the 2 compressors were secured together as to not twist from where they were attached. They were easy to use. Unfortunately they were to lite to compress the springs on my 2014 f150. They became all bound up internally when the first spring was half compressed. One loosened, and I was able to remove. The other was bou d up and would not tighten or loosen. I now had a very dangerous situation to deal with. After I put a chain through the spring to act as a safety,I was able to usesome other compressors to compress the spring enough to remove the broken compressor. Save your money if you are working on half ton or heavier truck coilover shocks. These may or may not work! ... show more

  • Did exactly what I needed.
Color: Black
Used these to compress the front coil springs on my 2008 Volvo XC90, both driver and passenger side. Due to a few complications that had nothing to do with the tool, I had to re-compress each spring more than once, and the compressors held up well. I also had to leave a spring compressed overnight due to other complications, again not involving the tool, and they still held up. For the sake of tool care, though, I would advise against leaving them under pressure for long periods of time, and I would not have done it if it could be helped, and won’t in the future. In addition, I will say that I lubed the threads with anti-seize before each use, as other reviews mentioned that, and I firmly believe it’s a good idea. At no point did the compressors show signs of poor quality or performance- that said, however, compressing a spring places a lot of pressure on them, and if they were to fail, the spring could easily take off a finger if you are not using them safely, so always proceed with caution. My dad suggested using a power tool to tighten each side bit by bit, but I chose to manually use a wrench for the sake of control and not taking the process too quickly. ... show more

  • Not heavy duty
Color: Black
Nice design but could barely compress the coil overs on my GMC Sierra 1500

  • Very Durable
Heavy Duty, Buy a name you can trust, easy setup and very trustworthy. Most problems people are having is the threads stripping out. Best way to prevent that is to NOT use a Impact at Mid or High speed. Very Very slow is the Key. Or a Ratchet. If you take care of it, it will last you awhile.
