  • Worked good for me
First I had a lower ball joint in the front driver side on a 2014 Subaru Forester, north owned car, that was stuck. I used a pickle fork but didn’t have a sledgehammer to drive it so that could have been my problem to begin with. I bought this to solve that problem. I didn’t look at the instructions as the device is pretty self explanatory. There are two holes on the main body that help control distance for bolt travel. If in your car the wedge doesn’t fit try the other hole. I immediately went with the longer travel. I slid the main body into the folk position, tapped lightly to be sure it was in place, then started turning the bolt. Crack the ball joint bolt was free at last. The noise was a little disturbing but when it came out I was all smiles. The other side didn’t need this bad boy. I only used the pickle fork and crack it was free. Honest opinion, this thing is worth not banging on bolts and getting frustrated. But I am not a fan of single purpose tools. Would I get this again if needed. Probably yes. I think the pickle fork is the better option but if that doesn’t do it, get this item to save you from a jam. ... show more

  • Very useful
Used this for stubborn lower ball joints on a 2005 Civic DX. Seemed like it couldn't open far enough at first but that pivot pin in the middle can be moved to the second hole allowing it to open up further. Worked great and seems durable. Keep in mind this tool will only remove the ball joint from the control arm, you will still need a ball joint/control arm press kit to completely remove it from the steering knuckle on this car anyway but it definitely makes things easier. ... show more

  • Just average
Depending on the job you need to do, this tool might work for you. I honestly really like this brand, and I've bought several of their tools over time without any issue or complaing; this one though just didn't deliver. The tool itself is strong, it didn't break under pressure, but the main screw is made of some cheap metal and started mushrooming out after applying some pressure. I originally bought it to attempt the removal of a very stubborn ball joint on a heavy duty truck, but the only tool that did the trick for me was a pitman arm remover. All in all this tool is ok for mid size cars and sedans, probably even SUVs, but if you need it for trucks or heavier stuff maybe you should consider something else. ... show more

  • Do not waste your time or money on this item
I was a professional mechanic mechanic Toyota master technician for 30 years and now that I'm retired, I still do repairs on friends and family vehicles, In the past I had always used a tierod fork to separate tie rods and ball joints but the only problem with that is, most of the time it tears the boots when separating the tie rod or balljoint from the steering knuckle, and these days with sealed tie rod or balljoint assemblies, that's a big problem because of the fact that you can't grease them, So if you're not planning on replacing them you'll need to avoid damaging the rubber boots. So I finally decided to buy a separator that is supposed to be able to do it without damaging the boots, However this one was completely disappointing, The U-shaped slot that is supposed to allow you to slip it around the balljoint or tie rod stud and then tighten the bolt in order to pop it loose, won't get it done, it's too narrow and the tongue of the separator is way too thick to fit in On any of the tire rods I tried it on, WTF Orion Tools, Who was the knucklehead who designed this tool! This is the 2nd or 3rd tool I bought from Orion and all of them have been poorly engineered or problematic in some way, I recommend you steer clear of this one it's completely useless ! ... show more
