  • amazing lens - even at the price. but not the most versatile lens.
*: Silver Style: 75mm
there is absolutely no doubt about the fact this is amazing glass for your m43 camera - whatever you frame will look great. focus is instant on the OMD EM5. sharpness is amazing - perhaps to the point where it is even too much for portraits without any mild postprocessing - not everybody likes every pore, wrinkle and fair exposed like that :) the 1.8 aperture means it performs great in low lighting, and that you can get absolutely immense depth-of-field effect out of it, in fact close up at 1.8 it gets to the point where it becomes a compromise to decide which part of a face to get into exact focus (yes it should be the eyes, but then it's like "which one"?). let's also note the "bouquet" is beautiful for the out-of-focus elements in such compositions. construction is very solid. this is a heavy, all metal lens. should you for some reason want or need to focus manually (i've never had to with this lens), the focus-by-wire manual ring is smooth and allow for extremely accurate focus. absolutely amazing lens - but also be aware this is a specialized lens. the full frame equivalent 150mm makes it a semi-tele prime lens. the minimum focal distance is 2.8ft. that is a somewhat specialized in-between: sublime as a portrait lens if you have the distance (which will probably not be the case in confined indoor places). so this is a lens that always depends on you having the right distance to achieve the desired composition, and if you don't you are out of luck. and you will not be at the right distance more often than with other lenses. i love having this lens, but also want to point out i don't use it nearly as often as other lenses. as always, it depends on your shooting style. it's definitely a should-have lens for m43 enthusiasts, but i'd personally get it *after* getting the Panny 25 1.4, 100-300, 45 1.8 first. but that is just for my personal use. make no mistake: this lens is the stuff of legend, kind of like the original Oly 50:2.0 for 43. olympus' recent policy of selling lens hoods separately at ridiculous prices is bothersome. a lens this price should come with a fitting plastic hood, come on. *then* sell the high-end metal hood separately, Olympus (and good luck to you trying). ... show more

  • Everything you've heard about this lens is true, everything.
*: Black Style: 75mm
Everything you've heard about this lens is true, everything. The images it's capable of capturing are simply world-class by any standard. When used properly, I can't see how anyone could be disappointed with this lens. I find the auto focus to be very fast and I've never though twice about it while shooting. The bokeh is simply superb. Seriously, look the first cat picture I posted, the grass in the background looks like some green fog; what a dramatic effect! You won't be able to see it, but the picture with the cat facing left is the sharpest picture you could ever hope to take. Every hair is visible and defined and the color and contrast blow away every single lens I've ever used. This lens is, however, a challenge to use. I have to get VERY far away from my subjects to get shots. I LOVE this lens for pet photos! I can get great shots of my cat from very close range. I get my best shots with this lens at shutter speeds of 1/250 and up. I am NOT a good photographer, I'm simply not but this lens makes people think I am! When I show my family and friends pictures I've taken with this lens they're blown away. I cannot recommend this lens highly enough. I have a lot of amazon reviews under my belt but I feel that this lens is the highest quality item I've ever reviewed on Amazon. ... show more

  • Booom! Bo-bo-bo-bokeh!!
*: Silver Style: 75mm
Awesome things about this gem: +One of the sharpest (if not THE sharpest) lens I've ever used for any system, amazingly sharp even wide open from edge to edge! +Great build quality, looks great, feels great, focus ring is nice and smooth. +Just a great range at 75mm equivalent to 150mm on a full frame, there are many creative ways to use this as a portrait lens or short telephoto. +AMAZING BOKEH! best thing about this lens! +At 1.8F, this is a freakishly awesome lens for low light portraits +Colors it produces are elegant, hard to explain, but the images I've produced with this lens are just elegant Minor things that can be easily overlooked: -A bit sluggish AF, not by much, but it can sometimes be tough nail focus just right in time to get a quick shot. -Expensive.. Though I think it's worth it, it is a very expensive piece of glass, for a range that is not very common. It took some courage to pull the trigger, but I'm glad I got it. -No lens hood? No weather-sealing? at $900, I would expect at least a lens-hood and a carrying pouch. That's it! Like I said, this is not a common range, but you can really get creative and zoom in and out with your feet to make sure you get the shot just right! One last note: This lens reminds me very much of a lens I had for my 5D: The Zeiss 85mm 1.4F, which is manual focus, had similar build quality and produced similar colors (nice and elegant) but this Olympus lens beats it! sharper, and with AF! Enjoy it! ... show more

  • expensive and high quality lens
*: Black Style: 75mm
very high quality lens made of metal. however i wish it was made to be weather sealed. i don't think it would've cost Olympus that much money.
