  • Great Price for Extra Long Ruler
I just don't understand... When I got the ruler, I love the feel of the ruler. I'm finding that manufacturers don't want to short customers so they give them a little bit extra! Generally, if I want to measure something, stick the end of the ruler at the edge of what you want to measure and see the tick where the item ends. Doesn't work with this ruler (and some plastic ones I purchased earlier). To make sure the manufacturer didn't miss some length, they give you extra, on both ends. Maybe it's something with the paint machine can't paint to the end, but it is more than a bit of a pain. Depending on how accurate you need to be, subtract between 1/8 and 1/4" from your measurement for the overhang. If I had a good grinding wheel, I'd be tempted to fix the ruler. Personally, I'd think a 15" ruler would be 15" but I'm only the customer. What do I know? ... show more

  • Odd Shipping
I ordered this by mistake and tried to cancel the order. Instead, the company billed me for a second one. The second package was oddly heavy. When I opened it, there was a case of twelve rulers instead of the one I ended up paying for. Now what? How do I return the other 11? By the way, the ruler is fantastic—so good, in fact, that I’m happy I have two and don’t mind paying for the second one. ... show more

  • Everyone should have at least one of these
Stronger and sturdier than those plastic ones. I only wish our political rulers were as straight and accurate as this one is!

  • Indeed a ruler
It sure measures and draws a straight line. All I really need it for as an artist.

  • It rules!
Exactly what you would expect. A metal ruler. Seems just fine.

  • Sturdy ruler
This ruler replaced a cheap plastic one I had been using. The plastic one was getting warped so this metal one is so much better.

  • Wobbly :/
This is NOT a super stiff product - feels wobbly and flimsy. I have had metal measuring sticks in the past that have been super sturdy and solid and was expecting that they all were this way...nope.

  • These are great for my non-measurement use.
I bought two of these rulers for an unusual purpose, and they are working perfectly. I need a TV antenna that would receive all of the major network digital over the air broadcast channels. Here in the Los Angeles basin, (and located within 10 miles of the towers on top of Mount Wilson) several of the networks are broadcast on their old VHF channels. But most antennas sold today are really designed to only receive the UHF channels. This allows the antenna to be smaller, perhaps only a plastic patch with metal foil conductors embedded inside. I have tried several of these, and they don't pull in VHF channels 7, 9, 11, or 13 despite my high available signal strength. The classic rooftop TV antenna was huge because the wavelength for channels 2 through 6 is fairly long, and a useful antenna has to be big enough to capture it. (At least one element similar in size to half the wavelength is typical. There are other designs, and tricks. Real antenna design is a black art. I am just dabbling here.) But if you can ignore those channels and only worry about channels 7 through 13, the antenna can be a lot smaller. Luckily, none of the stations that used to be carried in the low VHF band elected to stay there after the conversion to digital broadcast. Only those in the high VHF band remained. So I reasoned it ought to be possible to make an antenna intended to capture the high VHF range and ignore the low. The simplest antenna design to try is a so-called half-wave dipole. That means the total size of the antenna is half a wavelength long, and the antenna has two identical arms. The center frequency of the high VHF band has a wavelength close to 29 inches. So I need two pieces of metal that are a little shorter than 15 inches long. I could just use a wire coat hanger, but I wanted something a little more "finished" looking. Also, a wider bar would make the antenna work better over the whole band. Then I discovered that 15 inch stainless steel rulers could be had off the shelf. And they come with a hole drilled in one end, saving yet another fabrication step. My finished antenna has two of these rulers attached to the terminals of a VHF balun, isolating both arms from the shield of the coax cable leading to my DVR device. And amazingly, I not only tune in all of the stations using channels 7 through 13, but I also have good reception of all the rest of the stations broadcasting on UHF channels from Mount Wilson. ... show more
