  • For small cars only.
Too small...wasn't large enough to seperate the ball joint from the steering knuckle on a Dodge Caravan. Resorted to a pickle fork, defeating the whole purpose of buying a seperator, lol. But, it'll get used eventually, so. It's well built, I'll give it that.

  • Important - read before first use
This tool is a good value for $26 but you need to do some work prior to first use. I was unable to twist it by hand due to damaged threads and filth from the machining process. Here are the steps to make it ready for first use: - Wipe off the black debris then soak the scew in a solvent such as kersoene, mineral spirits or paint thinner. - Dry the screw and repeat until you see the no more filings. - Chase the damaged threads using a 1.5mm thread repair file - General Tools makes a nice one for $10. - Cover the screw with a light coat of machine oil. Then you are redy to use. After this process it was very easy to move the screw with very light finger pressure. If it does not move by hand, you do not have the threads clean. I used it to remove tie rod ends and ball joints from a Honda Odyssey. A 24 mm ratcheting wrench is ideal for turning the screw. Do not use an impact driver - slow and easy until you hear a pop. I struggled with giving this a 5 star review considering the prep work needed. But you can not beat the price, so a little work was worth it. ... show more

  • Never use a pickle fork again
I will never use a pickle fork for anything but pickles. The "pickle fork" for separating ball joints and tie rod ends usually tears the rubber boot on the part. As long as I am planning to replace the ball joint it doesn't matter. But, if I am separating a ball joint to remove the axle only, and then reassemble the suspension using the old ball joint, then I certainly need a tool that won't damage the ball joint. This tool does that. I didn't have to apply much force to separate the ball joints, so I don't know how much force it would take without breaking, but it worked quite well on the Mercedes. ... show more

  • Great for ball joints in tight spots
Had some ball joints in the upper control arms on my 4x4 1st gen Xterra that I couldn't get a ball joint press on due to the CV axles. instead of taking off the locking hub, the knuckle, the tie rod, the sway bar, and more to remove the CV axle and get a ball joint press on it, I figured for the price I'd try this. Took me a couple minutes to have the ball joint popped loose, definitely worth the price for the hassle it saves on any ball joints in tight spots. ... show more

  • "Sturdy Blow Mold Case" is made of cardboard.
Seems to be a well made tool, but Amazon needs to correct their listing. Like the dual fulcrum feature, and the ball-tipped jackscrew. Full disclosure, I was already expecting the cardboard box, because I read the other reviews.

  • Good little tool
I've used tie-rod separator tools, sledge hammers... and so on sometimes with no success. Also can't stand the cheap jaw pullers and all (way too much movement and they slip off). This tool is super handy. First thing to do is get some motor oil on the moving parts to reduce friction. Make sure you get it slipped inward/around the joint as much as possible, towards the stronger part of the tool, not the tips. Keep tightening, with a 1/2 ratchet, don't use a big breaker bar. Go slow and give it time, it will just pop out of the joint at any point if it's going to go. ... show more

  • Great tool, did not come with case as advertised.
Great tool, works like a charm, nice and sturdy, no more pickle fork or beating the castle nut. Minus 1 star because I was expecting a blow molded case and it only came in a cardboard box. Will be contacting the company about this and hopefully it will be resolved or the description will be changed.
