Our all-time favorite casein protein powder (we rarely do whey protein--don't like the texture and we've had great results with this slow-burning protein) was Dymatize Elite Casein in the "rich chocolate" flavor. Absolutely delicious and fantastic consistency. BUT, for anyone health-minded, looking at the ingredient label was hard to stomach. Lots of fillers and especially the presence of ingredients known to be bad for gut health (e.g., Xanthan Gum). At the end of the day, yes, they both have sucralose (another name for Splenda) in them, but the ingredients in this product are far more appealing (and simple) than those in the Dymatize. Ideally I'd love to see an option which used say monkfruit + allulose as the sweetener. As far as "clumpiness" this mixes really well. You just have to know what you're doing with casein protein powders in general in order to mix it smooth. We use a Ninja Bullet blender for our protein shakes and it works great. Very smooth and creamy result. It's also pretty mixable and smooth and creamy just with enough water. The less water you use the thicker it'll be. I've tried MANY protein powders and if you don't like this one I'm not sure if you'll find any that you do like. I'm very picky about taste and texture and relative healthiness of ingredients, and for me this is (on the whole) about the best you can do. Plus it's actually about as affordable as they get. Some of these protein powders are insanely pricely (looking at you Dymatize). So this is a great combination: it's an affordable and effective and tasty protein powder. ... show more

I like it. If you are an experienced protein drink user you may know about this. All the milk solids taken out of whey protein is in this powder. It has a grittiness you won't find in the smoother whey powders. But for some, texture isn't a turn off, we are after the effects of it rather than esthetics. It keeps me feeling full and feeds you over a longer stretch of time than whey protein. This takes awhile to digest. It helps me cut meals out and not get hungry for quite awhile. It tastes like chocolate. Is it like chocolate powders you had as a kid? No. This isn't that sweet or smooth, not even close. But, it's not meant to be. If what I describe isn't for you, buy the whey. Do your research on casein before buying either way. This is a top brand to me, more for less $. ... show more

This is the first time I've tried powdered protein, but I wanted to stay away from pre-made shakes with seed oils. I purchased this in the chocolate flavor, and it's pretty good! My daughter likes to mix it with milk, but I like it better with water. To me, it has a weird texture when mixed with milk and honestly, makes me gag! I have found that it tastes FAR better if it is shaken to mix, instead of stirred. If you stir it, it doesn't mix properly and it just tastes really, really bad. Overall, I think it's a pretty good quality protein powder without added garbage. We are not taking it for muscle gain, so I don't know about that, but on the whole, this is a good product, even though it takes a bit of getting used to. ... show more

This is basically my first time trying casein protein. I originally tried the vanilla flavor-- the taste was pretty bad to me. Figured I give chocolate a try, and OMG it's so much better. Surprisingly very creamy! I know casein is meant to be more of a night time thing but I sometimes drink this in the morning instead of whey protein just because it tastes so much better. ... show more

I don’t know how y'all are mixing this that are giving it great reviews, but I’ve tried blending it in the bullet blender and the textures thick (which is good) but SO gritty. I've reviewed the NO-Flavor version - so, now get to review this chocolate flavored offering. So, as per my review of the non-flavored, all I can do is add that it's all good, up to 4-stars but this chocolate flavor is a 3 start because of the flavoring. I don't think there's to much "chocolate" of coco (?) but the sweetener is a bit heavy handed and that's regardless of how much water or milk one might use. I'm not going to basically drink twice the liquid requirement to mix it to make the way to much sweetener they use tolerable. The thing with coco, or chocolate is, it won't taste like chocolate without the sugar and a tiny bit of salt/sodium. But, that's the thing it's supposed to taste like "chocolate", not "sweet" like a candy. Chocolate is chocolate and sweet is sweet/"sugar" so to speak. Me, personally I am very familiar with all the ways used to make stuff "sweet" - I do all my baking, etc. with even zero sugar and or any number of combinations to get the different levels of sweetness. I see what they use and in my experience, judgement of how it taste to me - they're just using to much and that's the over sweetness and metallic element/affect/taste-experience to it in my experience. It's enough coco, just either cut back on that or try a different non-chemical, "organic" sweetener. So, now I have 5 lbs of this to use up which means 2-3 servings per day until gone. At this price point, well - what are my choices - it's a weeks worth of groceries in this container. I was a bit surprised. But again, what are my options. So, I hope this helps someone. And, it's not as intolerable as others I have tried - so, it has that going for it. And again, I see I think it's this one where the one prior review says, use the recommended amount of liquid to make it tolerable. - Well, there's a difference at this price with making it tolerable and desirable and to continue buying. So, I'll wait for the non-flavored to be available again and skip experimenting with the vanilla et alia. It's not the "flavor" - it's the sweetener and if those flavorings are organic or chemical/artificial sweeteners is the other part of my concern - "clean" ingredients. Otherwise it would be back to rice-protein with no flavor. So, hopefully someone will get this "right" and be reasonable with the price point. Eggs are below $5/dozen and etc. packs of 18 count even too. So, again, I hope that helps someone. ... show more
