Want hot chocolate without all the fuss, this is a great gift for those who love hot cocoa! I love the Swiss Miss hot chocolate packets - you can put them with milk or water and they are really good, simple, hot chocolate - and this little Nostalgia Retro Frother will make either! Slide the level to the left and it heats and froths, slide it to the right and it just whips/froths it up again without the heat. Makes 4 cups. Quick and easy clean up as well - wash, rinse, dry. We had one similar to this for the past 10 years before it finally gave out - so glad we were able to find this one since all the other hot chocolate makers are super expensive. I really like this little machine! It makes great hot chocolate. I prefer using milk and it doesn’t overheat it at all which I was concerned about. The froth was amazing the first two times I used the machine and then after that it seemed to be a bit less frothy, but still ok. The one thing I don’t like is the hot chocolate sticks to the silver plate on bottom and you really have to scrub it off. Aside from that it’s easy to use and easy to clean. I made some for a event and put it into a carafe to stay hot and everyone said it was the best hot chocolate they’d ever had (I used whole milk and Ghirardelli hot cocoa powder) ... show more

This makes the creamiest hot chocolate with just milk and hot chocolate packets. I’ve also used a hot chocolate bomb and even though the solid chocolate bounces around, it does a good job of mixing it up as it warms. The chocolate/milk seems to cake on the back part of the metal base, probably where the heating element is, so that is a bit annoying since it leaves a mild odor and doesn’t scrape completely off. I didn’t expect it to be so loud and a distraction. Does heat up well and froths the hot chocolate but doesn’t auto turn off, so you will have to baby sit it. Also concerned about the soft plastic pitcher getting too hot

    • Why is it so hard to make a good hot chocolate maker?

After a month of using, I feel I can give a better review. It is easy enough to use: add milk, add chocolate, turn it on. For a family, the 4 cups of milk is nice since kids have a hard time waiting for anything. The spigot is nice, if only it didn't drip incessantly the moment you add the milk--be sure to have something there to catch the drips. The only two options to turn it on is "froth" and "heat froth". This is great if you want 3 inches of foam on top of your drink. You get these 3 inches because it takes so long to heat up. Be careful if you like "hot" chocolate, you may get chocolate butter. Further, if you use the spigot, you don't get any of that foam, it stays behind to give you a headache while cleaning. It is really loud. It sounds like the used the smallest motor they could find that would spin, but when adding any liquid becomes very overworked. I'm okay giving it some stars because it does mix and warm chocolate--it sure beats warming and ladleing on the stove. It isn't fun to clean since the heating element is part of the pitcher. We do use it weekly and enjoy it but there are so many issues that could be improved. ... show more
