I did it together with my two youngest kids, and we used the easy vanilla ice cream recipe, except I cut down on the cream to 1 qt, because that’s all I had. I was apprehensive about purchasing this specific model because I saw a lot of people complaining about the noise, or the motor going out, but I had no such problems. I made about two batches of ice cream a week for the whole summer, and didn't have a single issue with the motor. As for the noise, well. It's an old-fashioned machine with a working motor, it's going to be a little noisy. It's not as bad as people are making it seem. I had a great time with this, the motor worked well even when I overworked it and threw huge chunks into the ice cream. It was fun to experiment with flavor combos, Bits combos, and various custard recipes and figure out what works. The number 1 tip i would give ppl looking to try this out is to make sure you freeze your container and the paddle for at least a few hours before attempting to make ice cream because it absolutely improves the quality and makes it much easier. ... show more

This is a great ice cream maker. We put it in our kitchen sink to have a no mess experience. Only thing we disliked it that there is nothing signaling you that it’s done. We thought it would stop or slow done, but never did. I guess once we figure how long it takes, we will know to stop it.

The media could not be loaded. Overall all I give this an A+ so first my dislikes; no instruction booklet but so knew how to do it but for first timers they may need one. Also no fill line marking on the inner tub so I left about an inch headspace and it still started running out. Also the motor did not stop as I am used to with our antique freezer so when I saw it starting to seep out I stopped it. Now for the good parts, very easy to use, not heavy, love the handle idea, it did take longer than the time that was stated on the box but it was also 89 degrees in the shade and I should have used more salt.
