I was looking forward to installing this digital thermostat, but I hit a major roadblock before I even started. While the online listing emphasizes an "Easy DIY Install," the box itself features a very prominent warning stating that the product is "exclusively for HVAC professionals!" (exclamation point included). As someone who isn't a professional, that gave me a lot of pause. I looked over the instructions a few times and considered trying to wing it, but ultimately decided it wasn't worth the risk. I ended up showing it to my actual HVAC technician during my annual furnace check-up. While he thought the unit might be "okay," he suggested a different model that he felt was a better fit for my specific system. Because of the conflicting information between the listing and the packaging, I ultimately didn't use this thermostat. If you are looking for a true DIY project, just be aware that the manufacturer seems to have a different opinion than the product description!

I am not the one that installed this thermostat my Dad did and it took him about 15 minutes and that is including removing the old turn dial one. I personally hated the dial thermostat because one bump and the heat was turned all the way up. But because I have a boiler for steamed heat I did not think that I could have a digital thermostat. This thermostat works perfectly and after a month of use it has been on point with keeping the heat where I have it set. The blue back ground makes it easy to read even in the dark. The ease of installation and nothing to have to program makes this thermostat worth buying.

The thermostat that came with this home was very old, probably an original from the 80s. I was quite nervous about replacing it using my developing home improvement skills. I read the instruction manual, and I didn't really get it. I wasn't even sure how to remove the old thermostat. So I found a video on YouTube showing how to replace my old thermostat, and I was successful installing this new one. I had only to install two drywall anchors and reconnect four wires from the old thermostat to the to the new. Fortunately, I heeded the proferred advice and took a photo of the wiring in the old thermostat. I'm glad I did because I forgot to label the last wire I disconnected. I'm very happy with this new thermostat. It works fine and looks great, so much better than the old discolored one with the cover held on by shipping tape.

This thermostat is actually more expensive than the cheapest name-brand, non-programmable thermostats at my local home center. But, it also gives me more control over my destiny! One of the disappointments of the old Honeywell thermostat I was using, and also the current lower-priced options, is that the temperature "swing" is not adjustable. Well with this unit, the "swing" IS adjustable, and so is the calibration. On top of that, the batteries are optional if your wiring can accommodate. The instruction manual is brilliantly simple yet actually conveys more information than what I've seen from Honeywell. Namely, this manual actually gives example schematic diagrams and a table of each wire's function. Imagine that! I am currently running batteries as I haven't had a chance to add a "C" wire to my system. At 72°F, this thermostat agrees with my old Honeywell t-stat and my favorite digital meat thermometer. Good 'nuff! I haven't adjusted the temperature "swing" from the factory default, which is apparently already "wider" than my old Honeywell, which I thought cycled too much...that's the reason I was even interested in a new thermostat to begin with. This new thermostat runs longer and less-often right out of the box. The display is bright and clear but is also my only real complaint: I think it should have a button to turn on the backlight for a few seconds without changing the setpoint. I also think the display should come on momentarily when you move one of the two switches. As it is, if you just want to check the status in the poor lighting I've found typical of thermostat locations, you have to hit either "+" or "-" to get the backlight to turn on. But this will also likely start or stop your hvac system needlessly. All in all, though, a nice, simple thermostat.

Received this item for free from the Amazon Vine program. It’s a great little thermostat! Installation instructions are thorough and easy to follow. It looks simple yet refined, and should fit well into most spaces. The size ended up being too small to cover the paint difference behind our old thermostat, so we ended up choosing a different one. Overall though this is a great bargain thermostat that looks and performs nicely, and if the size had worked I’d definitely order it again!
