  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Worth its weight in gold
This is my first experience with a reciprocating saw, so you'll want to take my commentary with a grain of salt. I bought this tool because I knew I would need something like this to cut through a wall under my steps to add more storage space (Drywall + Metal Studs). But in the short term, I figured I could use it for another purpose .. cutting roots of bushes that I wanted to remove from a flower bed that was up against a cement porch. Trying to dig them out had proved impractical in the past, and there wasn't much leverage to get to them with other tools. Two weeks prior I had worn myself out working at it for hours. After getting this tool and using a low TPI blade, I made quick work of the roots in seconds! Definitely a back saver! While I figure this will likely be one of the least used tools in my arsenal, it's good to know that it can be counted on when needed. As I said at the beginning, I don't have any other experience with this kind of tool. I did compare it to others at the local home improvement stores, and recommend you do the same as well. A few things drew me to this tool over others. (1) It's of a reasonable weight, and felt well balanced. I suspect this will be of significant importance to users depending on job length. You want something that isn't going to cause you too much fatigue - let the tool do the work, don't let the tool work you. (2) It's power was adequate for my needs. I opted for this corded model over cordless primarily because I knew I wouldn't be using it daily, but wanted to make sure I had constant power. It's 10 amps, which seemed to be in the middle of all the others I looked at, which lead me to believe it isn't too weak, and also not overkill. (3) The 4 positions for the blade is a feature I think could be of some use, maybe with respect to getting into tight corners up against a wall as otherwise the handle could be in the way depending on what your doing, or just as a matter of comfort for holding depending on the motion for side to side. The ability to quick change without having to loosen and tighten a screw holding the blade is nice as well. If you know that this kind of feature is important to you, you may want to consider the milwaukee instead for the rotating handle, but keep in mind that is just the handle rotating, and not the body. (4) The case is fairly decent. I like my tools in hard cases. De-Walt cases are usually pretty good in this area, especially with the closing hinges. The case on this one has adequate room for the tool, the manual, as well as blades, which you need to acquire separately. The DEWALT DW4892 Reciprocating Saw Blade Set with Case, 12-Piece will fit just fine and is a pretty good assortment of blades to get started. (5) The price was right. Getting what I believe to be a quality reciprocating saw for under $100 seemed like a decent deal to me. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars SOLID, FEELS LIKE AN OLD SCHOOL TOOL.
Style: Saw
This saw cuts well and can turn on the after burners if you want. Just a great tool. The blades bend easily but that could be on me. The blade hook up is simple and the unit is easy to operate. A win win purchase.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Well made and easy to use
Style: Saw
This is a wonderful tool. The build quality is excellent. It can cut flush, which is why I chose it over many other reciprocating saws. Cuts through steel, wood, nails, anything at all with the right blade. Highly recommended.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had this a lot sooner!
Style: Saw
Didn't know this item existed, until a workman doing rock work for me, used one to cut a tree root in the way. Have used it many times since receiving. I am 70 years old and it is a little heavy for me but have managed it. My favorite tool now.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great sawzall
Style: Saw
I have a Dewalt 20 volt sawzall and just bought this 10 amp for the same kind of work. It always seems when the time comes to pull out my 20 volt I will go through the batteries. It is nice to have a back up I decided on the dewalt 10 amp because for my use I didn’t need to go bigger and I knew they have plenty of power. Also. I have other saws from dewalt and I feel there is muscle memory when using tools Im a DIY-ER but I been using dewalt tools since thev18 volt was popular. When I first got into battery tools dewalt offered more tools than any manufacturer now today there are a lot of choices. I like to stay with the proven. All of dewalt tools that I own I will always give five stars to I like how the engineers look at and study how to build them to suit our use Thanks for reading Mike ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Recip Good!! Service??
Bought as replacement for same model which walked off a job site. Had first one for several years. Have a larger, heavier, more powerful Porter Cable which works better on certain jobs (say built-up roof rip after a fire). The Dewalt worked, just not as quick. You can buy a Dewalt comparable to the Porter cable for more money than the DW304 if you need it. The DW304 handles almost everything and being lighter makes it better for most jobs. The swivel head comes in handy and the blade attachment system is a nice feature. Homeowners - Don't bother with a heavy more powerful one... doubt if you'll ever use it. Trades - You know the right tool for the right job... Thought I should mention service since you could need it. Can't be as positive here. Strike 1- Switch on the PC went sfter many years of use and took to a Dewalt center for repair. They did but cord insulation cracked (or had cracked) right at grommet when returned. They had to see it to repair awitch but still had a second full cost repair charge. Strike 2- Saw a refurb and bought it (almost 1/2 off but still almost $200 bucks)in case I needed it (would have been handy on a recent job but could not foresee when I would next need it). Next needed it over a year later. Unfortunately. I plugged it in and NADA (inspected, certified, BULL). Never buying a refurb again and in case cashflow forces me too you can bet I'll check it right away. ... show more
