  • Great value for birding
Size: 8x42
I was driving myself crazy trying to decide which binoculars to get for birding. At first I thought I needed to spend much more on an expensive pair with ED glass but then decided on a whim to just try a more economical pair and return them if they weren't decent. I tried the Celestron Outland ones and these in 8x42. What I found is both have good optics and are perfectly fine for my uses. The Nikons are just a bit lighter and the Celestrons have a bit of an issue with the adjustable eye cups collapsing easily and are also heavier, so I sent those back. They are about $30 cheaper and are still a good option for someone on a budget. The eye cup issue has plenty of workarounds from electrical tape to keep them in place or a ty-wrap below each eye cup so they don't collapse. In terms of viewing quality, I can't find anything to criticize. They're bright enough with no edge color fringing and are generally in focus to the edge of the view - though probably not perfect, just not bad or even noticeable. The only issue I have is that the diopter is really stiff to adjust but that's not an every day need anyway. They feel good in my hands and these are overall a great value for someone not wanting to spend many hundreds on specialty glass. ... show more

  • Excellent binoculars, great value.
Size: 8x42
Excellent binoculars. Clear, bright image, easy to focus and lightweight. These also cost far less than other brands, but there's no tradeoff for the lower price. Easy to carry, and very compact.

  • Clear, Crisp, and Built to Last – A Perfect Companion for Any Outdoor Adventure!
Size: 8x42
I picked up the Nikon ProStaff binoculars for an upcoming hiking and bird-watching trip, and I couldn’t be more satisfied. These binoculars have far exceeded my expectations in terms of both performance and durability. If you're looking for a set that can keep up with any outdoor activity, this is it. The image quality is phenomenal – crystal clear and sharp, with vibrant colors that make every detail pop. Even in low light, the ProStaff performs remarkably well. I’ve used these at dawn and dusk, and the brightness is impressive. The field of view is wide, making it easy to spot moving animals or scan large landscapes. These binoculars are incredibly comfortable to use. They’re lightweight, which is a huge plus for long hikes or carrying them around the neck for extended periods. The grip is solid and secure, even when wearing gloves. Adjusting the focus is smooth and easy, which has been great for quick focus changes when spotting birds or distant mountain features. Nikon clearly made these with rugged use in mind. They’ve been through rain, dust, and a couple of accidental drops, and they still look and function like new. They’re water- and fog-proof, which has been a lifesaver on damp, misty mornings. This set feels like it’s built to last for years. For the price, these binoculars are unbeatable. They offer professional-grade quality at a reasonable price point, which is perfect for hobbyists and serious enthusiasts alike. I’ve owned more expensive binoculars that didn’t match the clarity and durability of the ProStaff. If you’re looking for a high-quality pair of binoculars that are versatile, easy to carry, and built for serious outdoor use, the Nikon ProStaff is a fantastic choice. Whether it’s for birdwatching, hiking, or just getting a closer look at landscapes, these binoculars won’t let you down. Highly recommend – they’re the best outdoor companion I could have asked for! ... show more

  • Beautiful binoculars
Size: 8x42
Beautiful binoculars, a pleasure to use daily. We use them to bird watch, as well as night sky star gazing. A real treat. 8x42 is the sweet spot for general use binoculars. 8x is enough power to see detail but still be able to hand-hold. 42 is a big enough lens to gather plenty of light for day or night viewing. 10x is too hard to hold by hand (realistically the upper limit for hand-held), as the image jumps around too much. 50mm diameter lens is also the upper end of hand-held, as it is heavier and bulkier to hold without a tripod. The P3 line is a perfect balance of good lens coating at a value price. The higher end models have better lens coating technology, but for the extra $$$ you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. The only other option to consider paying more money for is waterproofing. Only get waterproof if you really need it (using on a boat is the obvious situation). But for birdwatching outdoors on a clear day, the P3 is a great model. We literally use them every single day. Our living room looks out on a big field with a lot of nature activity. We keep these binoculars on the window sill, ready at a moments notice to watch the show. Nikon is known for optical quality, and these don't disappoint. Easy to focus, stays in focus, well made, sturdy. Just quality all around. ... show more

  • Adjustment
Size: 8x42
Quality made from a good, reliable manufacturer at a very reasonable price, but I've had trouble adjusting to roof prisms from porro prisms and cannot imagine using these in the field where a warbler is here one minute and gone the next. These take me a lot longer to adjust, and I'm hoping that with time, I'll become more adept. It appears they work best if the same person uses them, as the adjustment for vision differences seem to me to be a bit more complicated. I will say that I believe these produce a clearer, sharper image, once you get them properly adjusted but whoops, then the warbler is long gone. ... show more

  • Buy without question. Don’t cross shop. You found it.
Size: 8x42
Honestly they should just remove all the other binoculars from amazon. These are the perfect binoculars for basically everybody. 8x42 is a perfect spec. And these are water resistant unlike the others so they don’t fog up like literally every other pair does. Perfect perfect perfect. And they look good too. ... show more

  • In some ways better than far more expensive binoculars
Size: 8x42
These are the best birding binoculars I’ve ever used. I go with a tour group at Prospect Park and the leader has a pair that cost over a thousand dollars that he let us try. The image quality on this is mostly comparable once you’re on the bird and the binoculars are fully up to your eyes. The advantage of the very expensive ones over these is that you can kind of see through them to line up on the bird before you fully bring them up. To me that’s a skill you get after two or three hours of birding if you don’t have that crutch anyway. The advantage of these over the expensive ones is the image of a bird in shadows is brighter with these. The tour leader thinks it’s a trade-off to get that ability to see through them at a slight distance, and to me the better view of the colors of the plumage would make these superior even at the same price point, once you put in the time and get the skill. The case that comes with these is nice. It’s compact and it protects the binoculars quite well. The strap is comfortable to wear and I generally don’t like hanging things from my neck. This one has a nice strap. ... show more
