  • Robust and easy to use.
Color: Yellow
This device combines an inclinometer and a laser range finder that supports simple range measurements, true horizontal distance measurements and (typically tree) height measurements. The device is simple to use, and provides a logging function as well that records measurements for later transcription. I've used it to anticipate the reach of felled trees, record tree heights for a forest stewardship plan, and measure distances between layout stakes and even distance to rocks from a racing sailboat. It's waterproof to some degree, so it's fine to use it in the rain, spray, etc. It does exactly what it promises, accuracy over shorter distances is as specified (I have no benchmarks for more than 100'), and the user interface is easily mastered. The only difficulty I've had with the unit is holding it steady enough to get readings on smaller objects (t-stakes, a narrow very tall tree); a longer device or a mount might makes this easier. Repeated attempts are usually successful, and missed measurements don't disturb a sequence for measuring tree height. ... show more

  • So easy to use
Color: Yellow
My entire department of field engineers has these as part of our standard tool kit. Need to know how tall something is? Just point at the base *click*, point at the top *click* and get the measured reading from the display. Couldn't be easier and seems to be accurate where I've been able to double check from other sources. Yeah, it's a bit spendy. But if you regularly need to know how tall stuff is with reasonable certainty, this is the tool you need. To me the only downside is the CR2 battery which is somewhat uncommon. I'd rather have a CR123 or a pair of LR3s or something I can find easily when needed. ... show more

  • More useful and accurate than I expected
Color: Yellow
It's really very impressive how this device picks up returns from almost any object - right out to its maximum range. Distance and height calculations seem to be well within specification. It works well for trees, cliffs, hills structures, and even golf yardages.

  • Difficult to keep steady on distance objects
Color: Yellow
I did not know that I have a shaking hand before using the Nikon Foresty Pro 2, there are no steady shot options which is a big miss from Nikon I will have to use a tripod on tiny objects with a distance greater distance than 100 feet, beside of this big flaw from Nikon the instrument is easy to use and accurate if you somehow can hold it still, I will recommend buying rangefinders with steady shot / anti shake features. ... show more
