Purchased the Ring Doorbell Pro for our new build in 2016. That Nicor chime was not compatible(rang nonstop). We purchase the Ring Chime&Transformer. We had a chime again. We upgraded our internet to xFi, and our chime stopped working. We would connect it, then drop out. It wouldn't even chime. We purchased two 2nd generation chimes, same issue. Returned them. While scrolling through Rings website, I found that Nicor came out with a new chime compatible with doorbells, the PRCP2. I was skeptical, but I purchased it. Set up was very easy. I removed my transformer I had purchased before(power was off) connected the white-white(common) black-black(line 120v) no green(ground) needed or power pack. Landed the smaller doorbell wires on terminals 1&2(+/-) doesn't matter on the Ring Pro as it is not polarity sensitive. Powered on, checked voltage(multimeter)to Ring Pro, had 24 volts. Tested live view and it was working. On the device "general settings", switched the chime option to mechanical, read to do this even though it is a digital one. Rang my doorbell, phone went off and 1-2 seconds later so did the chime!! Very pleased. ... show more

We had an older version of this chime but upgraded for use with a video doorbell. It works great but was a lot more complicated to install with the doorbell than we were anticipating.overall, we’re very happy with our purchase

    • Works OK So Far with Arlo Video Doorbell After Transformer Substitution
Other people's comments saying that the transformer that comes with this isn't powerful enough to run a Arlo Video Doorbell are correct. I substituted this more powerful transformer from Amazon and it works fine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2TGGFGD (see my comments under that item too).

    • Works with 1 ring device but not with 2
Installed ring door bell device and it worked, but when I added a second door bell device [front and back door] the included transformer could not handle and load and burnt out. Since I am electronics savvy, i just cut off the transformer half and bought a 20VAC transformer with 30VA rating and manage to fit in the 2 gang deep J-Box. I did not use the ring power-booster and on ring setup I answered booster not needed and in the settings set the type to mechanical. The claim that the chime is capable to handle ring device is partially correct as long as only 1 ring device is connected. [I would have given 5 stars if it could handle 2 ring doorbell devices] ... show more

    • Doesn't work with Arlo AVD1001 despite Nicor claims it is compatible
I ordered this unit to replace the PRCP1 that came with new building construction to power an Arlo AVD1001 wired video doorbell. This exact Arlo model is listed in the Nicor manual as compatible. The Arlo's lights will not come on and the chime rings continually. This is all without using the power supply dongle included with the Arlo. The Arlo manual claims it needs a power supply of 10 Volt-amperes to operate. This PRCP2 is capable of producing only 7VA (20VAC*350mA=7VA). I've run into products before where its "required" amount is actually way more than the unit's actual draw, but since I cant find an actual document from Arlo specifying the exact power draw on the Arlo AVD1001 I can only assume it needs more than 7VA. Nicor should not be listing this as compatible with the Arlo when it is out of spec and they should not have produced a model that maxes out at so little power for modern smart solutions. Many traditional doorbell transformers can do 10-40VA going back to the 50's. New homeowners who have been saddled with a PRCP1 installation by their builders are now in an awkward position where there is no easy solution for their existing wall boxes and wire runs to power modern security devices because Nicor's PRCP2 doesn't offer a true high VA transformer for their proprietary 2-gang box anti-solution. Also their bell connection clips on the unit are unnecessarily difficult to release after a wire has previously been inserted. Edit: I managed to get the unit working with the Arlo by opening it up, extracting the 20vac 350ma transformer and soldering in a 20vac 500ma transformer that came out of a wall wart plugin adapter in its place. The unit will now successfully power the Arlo and run the chime when the button is pressed. All Nicor needed to do was include a transformer that could do another 150milliamps. Taking this straight out of the box and just looking at it you can tell it is easy to install no worry of having to have the transformer for the doorbell especially if you have no idea where it is in your house. This comes with its own. It has 2 different sounds for front door and back door but you can install more then 2 door bells. I have had it for months now and it is still working great.     • Great replacement with Ring compatibility
Initially stuck with the only option for ring doorbell 2 in my home prior to the release of a ac output doorbell as new homes being built are trying to save costs and installing the integrated doorbells (mine was the nicor 1888). Finally Nicor released one that's compatible with the ring pro. Installation was a breeze, but would've been better if they just included the ground wire that was on the previous generations. I understand being in a plastic enclosure it's not required, but it was on the previous version just for continuity. Two extremely important aspects of install that there are no directions on, but once calling ring support were verified as part of a "internal document" and not readily supplied to consumers: #1 when installing the ring pro, the pro power pack is not installed #2. when wanting to utilized the nicor bell chime instead of the ring chime, you have to change it on the ring app to "mechanical" even though this is a digital doorbell Otherwise the doorbell has been working for about a week without any issues.
